While I agree with the sentiments expressed, I would hardly call a team which spent 62 years in the Football League, including the First Division, and residing in a large city, a "Pub" team. A club that has fallen a long way from greater times maybe.

I think that we may be getting into deep water here. As has been said earlier, Craig Charles was acquitted by a court of law and Prince Andrew has not been charged of any offence in any country. I am not aware that any such charge is planned or likely to be brought. There are laws of libel and posters on this site need to be aware that the law extends to web sites as well as the printed media. As Evans is at present convicted, one may assume that it is safe to make references to his behaviour, personality and character, but if subsequent action in the courts reverse the verdict, then the risk is of a similar nature. Please be careful what you post.

Does anyone know what Mike Pinner does on Saturday afternoons? He's only a sprightly eighty so should be good enough for this league. If not maybe we could tempt Chris Woods to give it a go. ;D

Speaking of teams from Perth, has anyone heard from the Rockin' Rev lately?

If the "either, or" offer was made, then it was made by either a long defunct government, or Holland County Council, which no longer exists. Lincolnshire County Council didn't come into being until April 1974 and we've had many general elections since then. In my book, that means all bets are off. We were promised a new hospital just after the war, but it took 41 years to fund and build it. A similar promise was made for a Liverpool hospital on the same day as us, but that had been funded, built, worn out, demolished and replaced in the 41 years. Was Spalding told that the eastern by-pass meant no other scheme could be considered subsequently? Facts prove otherwise. As for Lincoln, at present rate of progress it will appear on the map as a dart board within twenty years. We have been in the news a great deal lately, and there is no excuse for not knowing that we exist. Enough is enough. We need to catch up with the rest of the country now, and to hell with the cost of bridges and other excuses.

Let's get the message out to the people of the surrounding towns who are affected when travelling to Boston. Skegness, Spilsby, Sleaford and Spalding are all close enough. I'm asking people I know in The Deepings to sign. Also, spread the message at home games. Maybe opposition supporters who come to town only once a year can be persuaded by the inconvenience that they experience. Get the managers of local stores to talk to their delivery drivers. If you go to away games and meet locals in the pub, explain to them, or bribe them with a pint if necessary. That's my list. Think of any others for yourselves. It's up to everybody.

I am not, nor ever have been a tory supporter, but I remember some fine constituency members of parliament for Lincolnshire. In particular, Sir Herbert Butcher, Sir Richard Body, Joseph Godber (Grantham) and especially Sir Peter's predecessor, Sir John Maitland. They (except Sir Richard, who is thankfully still with us) must be turning in their graves at the thought of their great county being let down by this midget, even among current money-grabbing MPs, who will be lucky to be remembered beyond the next parliament.

Lord Tapsell? In the House of Commons?

Sadly, this is already starting to turn into prevaricating, cold feet and "no risk taking in this little old town." I sincerely hope that I am wrong, but I'm old enough to know the history of these sorts of opportunities and the regularity with which the council has scuppered them over the years.

I don't see the lack of a vote as sitting on the fence. To me it says "since the council is not obliged to take any notice of this referendum, why should I bother to interrupt my life to go and vote, when the outcome will not damage or inconvenience me. If I felt that it did, I would surely have voted."

Therefore the vast majority are either for, or have no objection to the plan.

World Cup glory in 1978. All I remember was a drugs scandal and a win when already eliminated and the opposition was already through. The trouble was that Ally's tartan army celebrated their victory before leaving home. Nobody told Willie Johnston of the plan. I don't think even Evans would wish to be associated with that debacle.

Stan Mortensen played for Bath City at York Street. Scored two against Chile in the 1950 World Cup.

One player who did not actually play in the World Cup, but was in the 1970 squad that went to Mexico: Alex Stepney. He played at York Street for Altrincham.
