The B-Ark / Armstrong Gone
« on: October 25, 2011, 11:16:50 PM »
We still need a holding midfield player ?

>>>>

Boston United midfielder Craig Armstrong has departed The Jakemans Stadium.

The 35-year-old, who arrived from Eastwood Town in September, has joined Evo-Stik Division One South side Hucknall Town as player-coach.

Armstrong, who made three appearances for the Pilgrims, has linked up with Des Lyttle in a new management structure at Watnall Road.

He made his debut at Altrincham on October 8 and has since played in the successive victories over Histon and Workington.

Boston United would like to thank the player for his service during his short spell with the Pilgrims

So Alfreton lose again tonight.

Do you think this goes to show we are a long way off Conference Premier standard ? We might be better off  being a reasonably big fish in the Conference North !

Four wins out of four and only one goal conceded.

Will they win the league ? How on earth are they doing it without their star player ... who signed for Boston in the close season ?

My opinion is that it'll all settle down in time. Hyde will be mid-table by Christmas. Vauxhall Motors will be bottom and Boston will be second in the table - behind Gainsborough. It's difficult to see how I could be wrong.

The Pilgrim Lounge is under new management following the appointment of bar and catering manager Mark Wilson.

Wilson took charge of his first formal event on Friday evening when The Pilgrim Lounge hosted the club’s end-of-season dinner.

The new arrival will be in charge of all aspects of life in The Pilgrim Lounge following the resignation of previous incumbent Carl Manning, who has taken on a new role elsewhere in the county.

The Pilgrim Lounge remains the ideal setting for conferences, business meetings, weddings, christenings, party nights, general private hire and excellent Sunday lunches.

To contact United’s new bar and catering manager, please call (01205) 362967 or e-mail mark.wilson@bufc.co.uk or pilgrimlounge@bufc.co.uk.

To find out more about United's new appointment, visit bufc.co.uk next week...

Anyone know when these will go on sale  or what price they will be ? I imagine an earlybird incentive will be in place if purchased before the end of May ?

The B-Ark / Two Points
« on: March 20, 2011, 06:51:37 PM »
Although we salvaged a draw yesterday, I don't think I've ever seen the two managers stick three strikers up front and go 3-5-2. I think sometimes we should do this - particularly with the strikers we have at our disposal at present. We got away with sticking with 4-4-2 yesterday but on another day it could easily have been different. I don't think we always need to keep four at the back.

Secondly, looking at the run-in, I think Telford will now win the league. Three points ahead of Alfreton and Alfreton have three games in hand but a much tougher finish.

Premier Division

St Neots Town  2    Kings Lynn Town  4

Saturday, 05 February 2011

The league's 'match of the millenium' so far proved a dramatic affair in front of a massive crowd of 1,481, believed to be the highest for a UCL game since 1971.

The Saints went into the contest unbeaten in league action since October 2009 - a run of 46 matches - and holding a four point lead over their rivals.

Windy conditions made life difficult for the players at times and it was the Linnets who ultimately adapted the better as they halted the home side's long unbeaten run.

There was an early scare for home keeper Dave Hogan on his debut as his attempted clearance struck the onrushing Jack Defty and looped into the net, but the referee ruled handball and the point was ruled out.

The lively Lewis Hilliard set up the first St Neots chance for Lewis Webb whose effort was blocked, but with thirteen minutes played the home side were in front as Stefan Moore was brought down by Ross Watson as the pair contested a cross from the left and Webb despatched the spot kick.

Lynn's reply saw Jamie Thurlbourne and Defty set up Stephen Spriggs to test Hogan, while at the other end Alex Street was well place to save Hilliard's 30 yard free kick.

Good work by Shane Tolley set up Moore whose shot was well saved by Street with Webb unable to keep the ball down as he followed up.

Lynn were level two minutes past the half hour with Chris Bacon's strong run and pass inside the full back setting up Spriggs to beat Hogan with a low shot.

St Neots were back in front three minutes before half time with Moore exchanging passes with Tolley before unleashing a stunning low drive into the far corner from the left hand side of the box.

A fired up Linnets side emerged for the second half and pushed St Neots back to good effect.

After 53 minutes the scores were level again with Defty's flick on putting Spriggs in behind the defence to fire a cross shot beyond Hogan.

A lob from Spriggs was just over as the visitors continued to force the pace, but on the hour a long ball saw Defty win a race with Hogan to steer the ball home.

The woodwork denied Jamie Thurlbourne but in the next Lynn attack after 66 minutes a challenge on the edge of the box fell kindly for Spriggs to drill a low 18 yard shot into the corner and complete his hat trick.

The arrival of Kieran Davies from the bench breathed new life into the home attack and the substitute's fine run and well struck shot brought Street into action with a vital save, but the visitors confidence saw them play out time with few worries.

St Neots: Dave Hogan, Dallas Moore, Theo Davis, Lewis Webb, Glen Fuff, Will Fordham, Lewis Hilliard, Junior Kanudu (Kieran Davies), Stefan Moore, Shane Tolley, Dan Jacob (Roy Essandoh).

Kings Lynn: Alex Street, Pat Bexfield, Jamie Alsop, Luke Thurlbourne, Dan Buhlemann, Ross Watson, Stephen Spriggs (Kieran Doherty), Danny White, Jack Defty, Chris Bacon (Robbie Harris), Jamie Thurlbourne.

I know there will be loads that come on here and say what a load of rubbish .. blah blah blah but you're all in denial.

Matt Cardle to win and Cher to have a break down during the first live performance !

Bring it on  ;)

The B-Ark / Kings Lynn
« on: April 25, 2010, 10:24:23 AM »
KING’S Lynn Town will begin life next season in the United Counties Premier Division.

Club officials confirmed on Thursday night the Linnets had been accepted by the UCL for the 2010/11 campaign at level five of the non league game.

UCL top brass held positive talks with both the club and FA recently at Wembley and Director of Football Kevin Boon admitted that was a major factor in Lynn’s final decision.

Lynn’s hierarchy had also sounded out the Ridgeons League but feared a majority of member clubs would only sanction entry into the First Division - a rung lower than level five in the pyramid.

“We couldn’t take the risk they would put us in level six,” said Boon. “It was pretty obvious to us because certain clubs had publicly stated they would like to see us in Ridgeons One - not just Norfolk clubs but also Suffolk clubs. We feel our stadium represents level five and above. It would have been nice to play the other Norfolk clubs but at no stage did anyone from the Ridgeons make it known to us they would support us.

“Before we went to London to see the FA we had a committee meeting where the UCL had already made it known to us they would back our case if we wanted to go down their route. Buster (Chapman) had the final say and we have decided to go where we are welcome. The UCL have done us proud and they have backed our cause.”

Boon is under no illusions Lynn’s past reputation will count for little when the club make their league return in August.

“It’s going to be a hard job starting from scratch but we will have a good side,” said Boon. “I know from past experience as a manager here the playing strength was always around Peterborough and the Cambridgeshire areas. “I’ve been watching UCL for the past month and I’ve seen some great games of football, physical, but good football. There are some nice grounds and facilities so it won’t be easy but myself and Setch (Gary Setchell) are no different to the other 21 odd managers in our league.

“Come the opening day the ambition is to win the league and it stays that way up until the last ball is kicked and it’s not possible. We’ll wait for all the local seasons to finish and then we’ll look to bring in players but we’ve got a fantastic ground to show lads. Work is already underway. The pitch has been seeded and looks immaculate and by the time we kick off in a few months this ground will be Conference standard.”

The B-Ark / Bird On The Pitch
« on: April 11, 2010, 04:30:30 PM »
Whilst not wanting to be too critical at this delicate stage of the season, I've not been overly impressed with Bird's contribution since joining the squad. I am not seeing how he is keeping the likes of Cullingworth and Parker out of the team as he is certainly no better on the evidence to date.

Having played at left back myself, I have watched his performances with interest and have been particularly disappointed with his distribution. In addition, his heading is poor - particularly when compared to the Guiseley left back and even Ben Chapman for Frickley last week. At Hucknall I noted that circa 75% of his passes did not reach their intended target.

Anyway, just an observation. It's the one area I think we are looking vunerable at the moment and hope this doesn't have an adverse impact across our remaining games.
