The B-Ark / Sponsorship for Macmillan - BUPA 10k London 2012

Hellp all :)

Some of you may know me as that annoying photographer who spams these forums with his photos! (sorry!).

Anyway, I am entering the Bupa 10k London 2012 Run in support of Macmillan Cancer - a cause that is close to my heart after my Grandma Sweet (Shirley) passed away on 11th August 2011 - Macmillan were there for my Grandma during her last days and made them alot more comfortable. They also made things alot easier for the family as a whole. Before my Grandma died, me and my sister (Vicky) told her that we would raise money in support of them as she spoke highly of Macmillan - and this is our way of doing it.

Now 10K might not sound alot - but when you can barely run from one end of the room to the other you know its going to be a struggle - suffice to say I will be doing alot of training come the new year! Will be my first ever sponsored run so I intend and make a real go of it and achieve the best time I possibly can - As well as achiving my ultimate goal of raising lots of money for the fantastic people at Macmillan.

Please give what you can to this fantastic cause and help me reach my £300.00 target. Like I say this cause is close to my heart so every donation will be appreciated.

You can give by either speaking to me at a match and filling out a sponsorship form or by visiting:-

Thank you,

Do find it stupid that some of our fans were booing this guy - think there are certain precautions that have to be taken when a head wound has been incurred - and if my head was in this state I think I would want to wait a while before moving! Credit to this player!

The B-Ark / Re: 2012 BUFC Calendar - Input
« on: October 30, 2011, 12:52:10 AM »
Thats a good idea Shippy.

I would say that the only problem of having one player's photograph on a page for each month is that by the middle months within the calendar the football season has finished, and some players have left the club by the time "their month" comes round on the calendar.

Personally, I prefer not to see departed players on calendars, as they seem irrelevant once they have gone.

Not sure how far your back-catalogue of photographs goes, but how about producing a calendar containing action shots of Boston United legends from yesteryear. If they are all retired, rather than simply plying their trade elsewhere, I would buy one. A calendar featuring Cookie, Tex,  Cav, McKenna, Adamson, Poplar, Ellendar and the like at the height of their powers would be good. I appreciate if they are before your time then you will not have the copyright on the photo's though.

Just a thought.

I must admit I do like that idea - I'm sure I could sort something out with the club on this one (although copyright could be the issue) - we shall see. I want to do this, but would need a slight hand in some respects - but then again I do want it to be a community effort.

The other idea I was thinking of was just to have some of the celebrations/high points from over the past couple of season - from the promotion to the Blue Square North, play offs last season and general high points. Would be nice just to remind people how the far the club has come over the past couple of years. Also, it makes the players leaving issue a bit less of an issue

Cheers Shoddys, it's nice to know somebody thinks of us!

Well if you would like to lend a hand - and have some good ideas for a front cover and decent calander layouts. then I'm sure we can talk business once again! (if the business cards you did for me are anything to go by then we shouldn't have a problem - FOR ALL YOUR BUSINESS CARDS, GO TO CHRIS COOK PRINT!)

As for charities - I was thinking something along the lines of Macmillan Cancer - as it is a cause that is close to my heart, due to the fact my Grandma passed away from Cancer earlier this year and they were there to look after her. I also know that it is close to the hearts of a couple of people at the club at the moment. Ok there wont be masses of money made, but every little helps!.

Keep those ideas coming, I am working on a few things for it as I write this :)

The B-Ark / 2012 BUFC Calendar - Input
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:21:56 PM »
Evening everybody,

What are your thoughts on putting together a 2012 BUFC calendar for fans and players to purchase and put a little bit of money back into the club. I have been looking around and have sent off for some samples whereby 10% of the cost goes to a chosen charity - would be a good thing - any thoughts on a charity?

Anyway, I am after your input into what sort of layout you would prefer, and how to set out the months e.g. players for each month or just action highlights each month? Also if anybody has any graphic design skills then that would be great!

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Cheers

David

If you ever want to try one then you could probably use my 40d and 70-200 for a couple of games. Very rarely use it now as the 1D is such a superb piece of kit!

The B-Ark / Re: do you think we need a fitness coach
« on: October 06, 2011, 11:20:19 PM »
Oxo what does he do on match days?

He does alot more than some people realise e.g.  he helps the players with their nutrition, advises them on the right things to be eating/drinking before game and is also willing to spend his time talking to the players with any questions on their fitness on the bus to away games.

Also, on match days he prepares the players during the warm up and also makes sure the players get a proper warm down after the game - and works separately with those who haven't played to keep them in shape.

IMO his advice and input is alot better than nothing at all and considering he is doing it for FREE it is no bad thing. The players also seem to respect him so I see no issue whatsoever.

Some good stuff in there mate :)

Best piece of advice I was ever given was to get down lower and sit on a stool (thanks Kipax @ Accrington Stanley!) and made a huge difference to my photos - just gives a better perspective on the players and helps get the facial expressions. Give it a go sometime :)

Its worth visiting for the quality photos of every game, which other club has such a professional adding to the quality of our great Patter site?
Great stuff Shippy you really enable us to re live the games.

Thank you Oxo - means alot :) I am not a proffesional though, just a part time hobby/side job for me :) There are plenty of games to go up yet - nearly all of pre season, a couple of games this season, two youth team games and the archives from the previous two seasons :) will post on here when they go up though!

Also, you should hopefully be able to see more from Tim Hoff (Club photographer) in the near future as I am assured the club are setting up a dedicated photo site - should help everyone be able to relive the games even more than before :)
