The B-Ark / Re: Player Ins and Outs

Lamin Colley in.

Not sure where you have heard this, as according to this news article, he signed for Scarborough.  - http://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/news/boro-snap-up-colley-1-7981372

Not heard anything about this until I had a text from a work colleague this morning - a Stockport County fan - saying that we'd signed one of their former players, but not sure where he found out. And, apparently, there's a thread about us signing him on one of the County fans forums. Colley joined Stockport at the start of last season from Bradford PA and returned to Yorkshire mid-season. As probably expected for a player who was only at a club for a relatively short time, there were mixed feelings about him from County fans, but many reckoned he showed promise and were sorry he didn't stay longer to see how time under Jim Gannon might have seen him improve. If this signing is confirmed, perhaps Dennis has seen something about him to think Colley could be the next Daryl Southwell??

Didn't have Kaine down as leaving , good luck to him at York City

Blimey. Wasn't he our longest serving player? Who holds that accolade now? Is anybody left from the season before last?

That's right - no players now remain from the squad that started the 2014/2015 season

The B-Ark / Re: O/T In or out
« on: June 22, 2016, 07:57:37 PM »
As you may know the overall IN or OUT result is being declared at Manchester Town Hall on Friday. I work there, and there's a lot of disruption because of it. Security has been stepped up and tomorrow (Thursday) we have to vacate the building by 4-00pm. Police are then searching through all the offices and everything has to be left unlocked. Come Friday no staff are allowed to work in the Town Hall and we're all having to go to other council offices in the city centre. Many staff are taking an Annual Leave day and others are working on the count itself. Thank goodness we work a flexi-time system, coz the city has become markedly busier today, so I'm sure its going to be even busier over the next couple of days. My journey in took 20 minutes longer than usual today, so those working a rigid 9am-5pm will probably have to set out much earlier tomorrow and Friday than their used to. Anyhow, hope the result goes the way you favour - which hopefully is the best way for the country.

The B-Ark / Re: National League considering changes to play-offs
« on: June 20, 2016, 01:45:10 PM »
I’m probably in a minority on this one, but I’m not a fan of any non-league playoffs being held at Wembley. I object to two teams that weren’t good enough to win the league being rewarded with a final at the national stadium. For me it demeans the cup competitions – trips to Wembley should be ‘special’ and I don’t believe the play-offs count. And on a practical level it’s completely pointless. Wembley is too big, and watching football in a venue that’s 90% empty is just depressing. Just ask Trinity season ticket holders! Waheeeeeeeey #banter

There'll be mixed views for sure - and I'm trying to work out whether I agree with more of the 'for' or the 'against' reasons - but Pete B makes some excellent points here.

Being cynical, this is probably being proposed to try and increase income on the Conference Premier Final day to help pay off the debt of building the place, rather than for any footballing reasons.

So I wonder what ticket prices would be? A ticket to cover all 3 games would almost certainly be a lot more expensive than the admission fee has been to attend either the Conference North or Conference South finals. Cheapest ticket lets say would be £30 - around double the cost. Assuming the Conference Premier Final would be the last game of the day - would you really want to hang around to watch two more games if your team had been in the first game  and lost??? And have paid much more than fans had done in previous seasons for the privilege!!

Akinfenwa and Stuart Douglas  involved in differing ways

A couple of 'Boston United moments' towards the end of the match. A great save by Luke McCormick from an Akinfenwa header & then Akinfenwa scoring from the penalty. McCormick was on-loan to us from Plymouth, but I think made just the one appearance (away Notts County?)
That was before he was involved in the motorway incident which him serve time in prison. The incident on the M6 saw McCormick involved in an accident which resulted in a father & his young son being killed. McCormick was heading back south after attending David Norris' wedding near Bolton.

Where are all these clubs waiting to sign him?  Methinks he suffers from delusions of grandeur!

Well I know of one if local football gossip where I am is to believed. A couple of weeks ago it was being suggested around here that Bolton Wanderers were interested. Had a couple of friends who are Wanderers fans wanting to know more about him. They probably wish they hadn't asked!!

The B-Ark / Spectacular goals
« on: April 30, 2016, 06:27:38 PM »
Kaine Felix last week, Grant Roberts today. Goals, if scored in the Premier League, would be being replayed time after time. But for those of us lucky enough to have seen both, which one did you enjoy most? I'd go for today's by Grant. Sat in the Tom Pendry Stand we had a fantastic view of it. We could have had ten today to be honest, Stalybridge must be wondering what hit them!!

The B-Ark / Stalybridge Celtic

Not sure on their team selection, but Stalybridge lost 3-1 tonight v Mossley in the Manchester County FA Cup Final played at Hyde Utd. One of Mossley's goals was from a penalty after a Celtic player had been sent off for handball.

The B-Ark / Snow Alert for AFC Fylde trip
« on: March 04, 2016, 07:59:17 AM »
Just something to factor into your journey for those coming up to AFC Fylde tomorrow.

I'm based between Bolton and Manchester (google says its 32 mins door-to-door from mine to Fylde's ground) and have woken up this morning to a blanket of snow.

Its has snowed all the way into work in central Manchester and is still snowing. The local weather forecast says it will be like this today and tomorrow.

Not withstanding any possible postponement, you might then want to add some extra time to your journey as - even if there's been none in Lincolnshire - I'm sure you'll meet the snow up on the Pennines along the M62. Maybe Ken can advise how it is in Leeds / West Yorkshire?

The B-Ark / Re: Different team getting my support on Saturday!!
« on: January 31, 2016, 03:03:02 PM »
Long story which I won't bore you all with ends with me going to the Leeds v Forest next week with a friend, who supports Forest.  We got the tickets free so I'm looking forward to hurling abuse at the home dugout (which I'm told we are sat close to) safe in the knowledge that if I'm chucked out its cost me nothing  :)

Well I hope you have better luck me MNH - I didn't get to see Mr. Evans lose as hoped. Sure enough, both he and Paul Raynor were throwing their hands in the air everytime they didn't like what decision the ref gave - or didn't give - and to see Evans milking the applause of the Leeds fans at the end was a bit toe-curling!! He made sure he was the last one on the pitch after the players had gone to applaud their fans and then trooped off.

Despite Bolton's efforts to get a big home crowd in - they'd done quite a bit of marketing and reduced admission from normal levels - I'm sure they were disappointed at the 17,336 attendance. My seat which gave me a cracking view - third row from the back on the lower tier and virtually on the halfway line - was £20. The Leeds contingent was apparently the biggest away support ever at the Macron (late Reebok) Stadium and they occupied both tiers at one end and one lower tier from corner flag to just before halfway. Local reports said it was 10,400 Bolton and 6,900 Leeds split.

As for the game itself, it wasn't the 'blood-and-thunder' cup-tie I was hoping for - infact our game last week against Hednesford had far more passion, excitment and drama. If anyone has seen the brief highlights on MOTD, I'm sure you'd agree that we'd have expected any of our goalies this season to have saved the Leeds' opening goal and that Dayle or Jonah would have buried the chance that Bolton missed right at the death.

The B-Ark / Different team getting my support on Saturday!!
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:51:44 PM »
With not being able to get down to Cheltenham on Sunday, I'm staying local for my football fix this weekend and going along to see the team where I live (although there are other teams actually closer geographically to home). I'm off to the FA Cup match at the Macron Stadium, Bolton Wanderers v Leeds United. Apart from local loyalty, I'm trying to think of what the other reason is that I want so very much to see a Bolton win!!

The B-Ark / Re: 12th December - A Saturday Off ....
« on: December 10, 2015, 11:27:15 PM »
A different kind of weekend. Going with the other half to see Simply Red at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, and then on Sunday its a visit to the Sheffield Arena to see Sheffield Steelers v Belfast Giants Ice Hockey match.

A game I'd expect us to win provided we don't get sucked in by the occasion. Them beating Sporting Khalsa 3-1 should only paper over their poor recent league form.

BUFC 3-1 FCUM
Attendance, 1200+ whatever they bring. Think they had 600 at Ferriby which is closer but perhaps this ground is more attractive to them
I'll go for 1,700 in total. Might get close to the 665 Kettering brought down here as biggest away following since we fell into Non League
[/quote

Was talking to a FC Utd supporter at work in Manchester today & he was telling me they took 1,700 ish to Khalsa last week. He reckons though, based on away games he's been to this season, it'll be between 500 - 600. Lets hope so anyway so as to justify giving them the Town End & a boost to the coffers. I'm bringing a couple of Man Utd supporter friends for their first ever visit to Boston & their first Conference National North match.

There's some different threads on here re: Saturday's game - including one dedicated to Liam. Having a Stockport supporting work colleague, I read this forum every so often to see how they view things. Overall you still get the impression that they think they are far too big and far too good to be playing at this level - and a sense that they're not too keen on 'noisy neighbours' FC United. They play each other tomorrow night at FC's new ground and, although the capacity is 500 the police have put a 3,500 'safety limit' in place. There's been a ascramble for tickets by both sets of supporters.

Should read 5,000!! The Stockport allocation is 500.

quote heard from several reporters on saturday - 'united struggled to cope with Stockports big physical central midfielders'. How many times have we heard that in the last 2 years, we all knew we needed a lump in midfield to do the dirty work thus allowing our more skilful players room to play. So during the closed season we said we needed 3 things to make us the real deal.
1. Goalkeeper - afraid Henrich should have saved Stockports winner.
2 Left back - this was clear for everyone to see Saturday, Liam was fantastic, several Stockport fans commented how good he was but a couple of times he got caught out as he's right footed. Roberts had to play right back but hes not a defender.3. Central midfield lump in the Ellender mode to stand up to the physicallity in this league.

on the positives we still look a threat and will score goals, I just think we haven't moved forward and are a few players short.
