It could and should be so much better, Darlo are  bottom and we've dropped a couple of points, Bishops Stortford are bottom 4 and we lost to them. Silly points dropped to poor sides will cost us dear in the long run.

I can't get carried away by a slightly better than average start, there's been good results against Blyth and South Shields but there's no hiding from the feeling it should be better.

Could and should have had a draw at least. After Saturdays great win some of the the lads were just not on it and though I don't like singling anyone out for citicism I have to say Gyasi is a liability there has to be better choices in the youth team never mind the under 23s. However on to Saturday and hopefully back to the home form shown recently as apart from the result we had another cracking away day on Micks party coach.  UTP

Totally agree, if Gyasi gets a game I want one too, a terrible performance that cost us two points.

Also the party bus is the way to go, a great day out ruined by an inept 90 minutes.

having agreed with you twice I'm now going to sign off for a few weeks.........

They got us near the end with a good delivery from the free kick which was well finished. A shame really as I thought we'd done enough to deserve at least a point. There were a lot of tired legs out there towards the end of the match. Just before the goal I thought we had a good spell with Knowles nearly scoring which was cleared off the line and the subs of Ward and Gyasi having a bit more energy and pressing them in the final third but it was Stortford who found the winner.

a lot of tired legs......

We're basically full time Lee, that excuse really doesn't wash. It was a poor performance and one indicative of a team that won't challenge for the top spot.........play offs possibly but on that showing it'll be another season in this league next year. A shame as I'd heard nothing but good things about Saturday's performance.

I think if you were to poll Boston fans you'd find as a fanbase we were probably the most behind our board than pretty much every club in the country.

Even when things are going terribly and everyone's moaning, nobody to my knowledge has ever turned against the two chairmen! And rightly so. We will miss them terribly then they've gone. I hope they never leave!

I wouldn't want to change him and Neil for the world.

Doesn't mean they aren't beyond question though........

Honestly I share your frustration - but I don't share your pessimism about the future. Yes I know it seems we're always talking about the future rather than the present I but genuinely believe with a completed stadium we wouldn't just survive in the NL, we could thrive. Obviously a good cup run can accelerate the process!

So for getting there, we still don't know what this season holds - Kiddy were bang average for much of it and look what happened... (and York the season before, but I try not to talk about that).

Its more an acceptance than pessimism that while David is in charge the conservative approach will always hold us back. Its not a criticism, its an observation, you don't have to mortgage the clubs future to one season, but a little more bravery budget wise could open the door to the promotion the club needs to get out of this rut of mediocrity.

Can't believe how some on here always need to have a moan about something.  Most supporters I have spoken to are very pleased with the stadium and thankful to the Chairman for making it happen.  Please be happy, life is too short to be miserable.

that's Boston for you....mainly those with an elevated sense of self importance......to think where we were to where we are now i have to pinch myself

Yeah, Football League to National League North for 13 seasons is certainly something.

I pinch myself too how its been allowed to drift to this extent that we're now firmly established as nothing more than a mid table regional league club.

Yours very self importantly......

We couldn't afford to be in the FL, Andy! We never could. I would have thought that you of all people would recognise this but the last few years you seem to have got so frustrated with our lack of progress back from the brink it's been lost in the mists of time. At least now if we ever get back it will be properly and not as a Fylde-esque financial basket case and ticking time bomb.

That's why we nearly became AFC Boston

Honestly Pete, I can't see this club getting back in The National League National, let alone the FL, which we all know is a step too far.......although once inferior clubs like Cheltenham,Accrington, Morecambe and Crawley to name a few seem to be making a good fist of things.

The only prediction I got right last night was you would be smug this morning!

Far from smug, I want a successful Boston Utd as much as the next person. Its so disappointing but utterly predictable that the team will get hopes up, get a top midweek gate in and absolutely fall flat on its face. Its become so its part of the clubs DNA.

But apathy has done for me, I genuinely can't see me ever attending as a regular again.

I'm absolutely not surprised at the original architects going under, the total bodge job of both terraces stinks of a planner with no concept of what its actually like to stand on a terrace. Both start below pitch level, if both had been elevated a foot or so the viewing sightlines would have been much improved. I stated that at the evening the plans were on display and was shouted down by the architect, he stated the ground would be a 'mini Proact'.......its absolutely nothing like the Proact which is a well designed stadium fit for the The FL with excellent viewing angles.

The pitch is elevated for drainage purposes. Think of it as a price to pay for getting games on that would've been called off at YS.

I know I disagree with you a lot re. the new ground but I have to say standing on the terrace is nothing like as good as it was York Street and the overall experience is pretty poor. The West Stand, on the other hand, is excellent.

Absolutely, the Main Stand is comparable with anything in the bottom 2 divisions of the EFL. However its not perfect, you cannot segregate it for big games, another massive cock up by the architects and one often overlooked.

And a crap view as a trade off for the odd game being lost to the weather.......nah, other new builds overcame that problem, its just poor design, pure and simple.

I think I said elsewhere that I thought the recruitment has been underwhelming, BUT it's a fair point that we've been impressed in previous years only to be massively disappointed. We just have to trust that the scouting is better this year than it was last year, when we recruited players seemingly entirely at odds with how Paul Cox liked to play football. Not many Boston fans will be too familiar with the new names so we'll just have to see how we get on in pre-season!

Looks like your comments are sadly ringing true Pete. Apart from Bostwick most of the other signings are fringe players.  If we are serious about promotion we need winners.  A new striker is a must, along with a ball winner in midfield.  These were my views after the Donny game, glad I couldn't make yesterday's game by the sound of it.

Mick, we're NOT serious about promotion.

read the charirman's comments at the end of last season, he says he's not going to spend, we've a budget that he believes is competitive but its clear again we're shopping in the bargain basement.

Expect nothing and don't be disappointed, Boston Utd has now become a hospitality venue with a football club attached.

David, good points as always but if anyone bemoaned losing any of last season's squad it just shows how far expectation levels have fallen in the supporter base. It was the poorest squad for many years, perhaps the regular support has become anesthetized to the mediocrity that seems to be acceptable these days.

With so few signings so far

I don't get that comment. We have 14 players officially announced, and it's not even July. We're not going to be working with much more than a squad of 20...

I think people are just a bit spooked by Scunny, who got their business done very early and have formidable squad depth. They must surely be favourites for the title, with the rest of us scrapping for the playoffs again.

They might have the best squad of players on paper, but how often doesn't that then translate into winning things? We know that better than most.

When have we ever gone into a season with the best squad of players?

we've had good-ish squads but Ive never seen us as favorites.

Sadly now we seem to be also rans

I know I am an half full glass kinda guy, but I am quietly confident we will do well this season Andy. I think the best signing so far is the keeper.  We need about three more players to complete the jigsaw. A striker or two are a must in my opinion.

Play offs at best Mick.

Its what the club want

Not promotion though sadly, I'm resigned to us being in this league for years.

The official website describes him as "highly rated", although looking through various tweets and replies to the news yesterday the only person I could see really raving about him was his mum.

Okay, I'm being a bit facetious - there were a few "some player!" type tweets, but we saw them last season for the absolute dross we brought in so I'm no longer getting excited about signings based off tweets alone!

It's going to be a really interesting pre-season because let's be honest, aside from a few of the NL stats gurus, none us have any clue how good these players actually are until we see them in the flesh and they get a few games under Cully under their belts. And I even include Bostwick in that, because stepping down to the NLN from the Football League doesn't automatically guarantee success.

I'm pretty optimistic though, the players coming in might be young but they're at the age where they're not completely naïve, have bags of energy and potential, and mixed with some experienced heads for a long old season I want to believe we're going to be an exciting outfit to watch.

(Just don't remind me of this when we're 5-0 down to Spenny first game of the season...)

The official website describes every signing as 'highly rated' so I think you can dismiss that as simply Craig's go to phrase for any signing.

5 goals in 45 games from midfield isn't startling, but what we don't see are his his assists, tackles or possession stats, thats more important for a midfielder.

But some of our lot make me laugh, every signing is hailed as a great coup, the 'I remember him from the game last season, he was their best player'........absolute garbage........lets give the kid a chance, he can't be any worse than some of the absolute whoppers we got lumbered with last summer.

And yes, his mum does seem very happy, as does his girlfriend, they've probably seen our VIP facilities.....
