BUFC v Barnet from April 1988.

We won 2-1 to spoil Barnet's chances of catching Lincoln at the top of the table, I remember it being a late Boston goal that won the game and there being hundreds of Lincoln fans at the game.

The B-Ark / Grimity in hard up shocker.........
« on: February 20, 2014, 10:11:32 PM »
Love the 'big spending neighbours' pop at the end.........if they'd got a decent manager instead of the Gainsborough Gobshite they'd have been a shoe in for last season's play offs.

Gainsborough Trinity's board of directors have muted the possibility of dropping down to a lower tier of football.

The startling revelation was made by commercial director John Myskiw as he outlined the financial difficulties the club has experienced since the departure of millionaire chairman Peter Swann last summer.

While Myskiw insisted the board had eventually decided against the dramatic move, it could be an issue they return to in the future.

"We have spoken about whether we can survive at this level with the investment that we currently have," admitted Myskiw.

"But you only have to look at the money teams like Worksop and Grantham are paying. If we dropped down we could be in the same position.

"So we hold our hands up and say 'okay, it's going to be hard again, but would you rather be at this level?'"

In an open and frank interview with the Echo, Myskiw also moved to scotch rumours that former chairman Peter Swann is still involved at Gainsborough Trinity.

Myskiw insists Swann, who is now chairman at League Two club Scunthorpe United, no longer has any involvement at the Blues after distributing his shares ahead of his departure last summer.

And Myskiw says he wants to put a stop to stories circulating that Swann is still lurking in the shadows.

"Peter Swann no longer has any involvement in this club whatsoever," stressed Myskiw.

"I am aware of the stories about myself and Pete Wallace effectively holding his shares.

"But I will guarantee to anyone that if someone came in for my shares tomorrow, they could have them.

"There is nothing whatsoever that would stop me. If it meant someone putting money into the football club then great, they can have my shares now."

The Blues director also admitted the board have discussed next season and revealed their playing budget is likely to be lower than the current campaign.

The reason for that is down to the money the club received at the start of this season following the sale of Luke Waterfall and Terry Hawkridge to Scunthorpe.

"That money obviously gave us a good starting point, but next season we won't have that money," added Myskiw.

"We are hoping everything else will be the same.

"Hopefully there will be more sponsorship because a lot of people took the attitude, when Mr Swann was chairman, that 'he's got the money, we don't need to help out'.

"They now realise that is not the case any more."

Myskiw believes that Trinity can still appeal to players while they are in the Skrill North.

However, he admitted that the club is battling against big spending neighbours.

and you are by far the poorest side I've seen here since we came back to non league.......at least Durham had a very valid excuse, there can be no excuse at this level for as bereft and spineless a performance as that.

No wonder only 56 bothered.

Pull your pants up now Gainsborough.

Well done Utd, thats how to put upstarts in their place.

lets do a Ken style predictor on how many Gainsborough 'followers' make the trip to Boston on Saturday.

I use the word 'follower' because surely to God no one is that bothered about their games that they'd own up to being a fan.....?Its a bit like County Cricket with them, people show an interest and care when there's a big game, but they don't lose any sleep over them, do they?

Remember, no free buses now Swann's gone to play with the big boys Subbuteo set, so no silly guesses at over 100.

To start the ball rolling I'm going for a turnstile ceasing up 72.

NEXT!

win some
loose some
draw some

We'll play worse and win, and better and lose.

Fair play to Stockport, I thought they worked hard and although I thought we shaded it overall they were the best side I've seen down here all season, its just a good job they seemed clueless up front.

Can't fault us for effort or application, it was just one of those games where we were never going to score, I thought they nullified Miller well. And Newsh, don't try and roll in a penalty in January in a swamp of a goalmouth........blast the bloody thing!!!!

The B-Ark / Weather
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:33:44 PM »
Rain all day today.

And then more on Tuesday if the forecast is accurate.

Will the game be on?

You'd like to think BUFC, like Alty on Friday, would make an early call and save people the hassle our fans were put through by Histon's completely unprofessional approach on NYD.

Gainsborough v BUFC
9.2.71
Mayflower Cup 1st Leg

In true Gainsborough style they cocked up the notes, stating the game was to celebrate the CENTENARY of the Mayflower sailing to the US........ ::)

However it does state the 2nd leg would be played at Boston later in the season.......any idea when?

They won this game 4-2, our team was;

White
Foster
Weaver
Smith
Gibson
Jobling
Croy
Bates (1)
Froggatt
Vinter (1)
Flannagan
Sub Creaser

Can any of our veteran supporters remember this short lived tinpot?

Pretty self explanatory really!

Also picked up a midweek cup programme v Wisbech from 58/9 season to complete the set for that season and a home v Oxford from the disastrous 60/61 season, need 3 from that season to give me a full house.

I can't see that we played any games that season in the EAC, I've certainly no programmes from that competition that season........do you think it was an invitation game?

I think that one will go way beyond my budget to be honest, some Posh collectors out there with very deep pockets, but I'll have a nibble!

The B-Ark / Well we were never going to win it were we?

And as handy as the cash would have been it was just about as bad a draw as we could have been given. Brackley's need will be far greater than ours when the obscene amount of cash that is propelling them to their current status is withdrawn; the stories doing the rounds about how much players are on there makes the North Ferriby 'fairy tale' look like a charity whist drive in comparison. The sooner clubs like this are allowed to drift back to their natural level the better, anyone remember Retford........where are they now?

To me its all about next Saturday and laying the Altrincham hoodoo to rest; If we are serious about a top 5 finish we MUST start beating teams like them at York St or it'll be another season of missed opportunities and disappointment.

Get over today, its disappointing but in the grand scheme of things its a setback, nothing more.

Can someone let me have a few copies of ones for upcoming games please?

My old friend James was over from Moscow for the game on Saturday, he'd love a few for his office and he'll be back around Xmas/New Year to take in a few games.

Ta in advance (Cookie/Chalker)
