The B-Ark / Formation / best 11
« on: February 05, 2023, 01:31:10 PM »
So in an attempt to be proactive, assuming we have the current crop of players to work with, what's the best formation/team? We need more central defensive solidity as I don't believe the back 4 are completely to blame, the midfield just doesn't chase back or gets carved up like butter. Personally I'd put Zak into a central defensive two with Platty, add Cummins to a back 3 with Sephton & Ferguson (cartilage problem?) as wing backs. We'd also get some much-needed width to our attack. Just look how it worked with Jake's goal yesterday. Then either Chadwick or Pollock as the nu.ber 10 behind a front two of Jake & Burrows. Basically a 3-5-2 or 3-2-3-2. Views?

Whilst I appreciate that we've only just beaten 3 of the bottom 5, we're 3 points off the play-offs!!!

Also interesting to see both Zak & Scott left out of the squad completely for last night.

Some positives & negatives from last night. Positives are the resilience shown & defensive solidity especially after going down to 10 men with half an hour to go. Belehouan was impressive on his full debut. However, the negatives are simply the football is dire & creativity is minimal. We were warned of Paul Cox's hoofball style & I have to say that I didn't really see it last season, but so far this season it is evident that this is the way the players are being instructed to play. Banbury played the ball out of defence all the time, building from the back, looking for the incisive pass, using the midfielders & width. We just bypassed the midfield with goal kicks that went straight down the throat of their centre backs. Fair enough if Burrows was up there, but to Crawford? I was impressed by the quality of the players Cox has brought in, but the style of play doesn't suit them. For instance, Atkinson was good in pre-season, but the ball seems to have passed him by since. If we're playing 3412, surely you need to work through the channels. We're not creating chances because the front three aren't getting the ball. We have quality wing-backs by the look of it, so why not utilise them in a 352 & play with some width in order to be less predictable in our forward play? Oh & find a midfielder who is hungry for the ball, can put their foot on it, look around & make that incisive pass... someone like Shane Byrne!  ::) UTP!

The browser point is a good one - IE didn't work for me, but Chrome did!

Living in Leamington, I'm obviously glad they've stayed up. I'll be up the road at Nuneaton tomorrow night. It's a shame to lose Tamworth (& Hinckley/Solihull in recent years).

The early penalty was a bonus but we were never really a threat. C. E would have known he has a big job to turn it around. This confirms it. Results this week haven't gone our way. Four pts adrift....

4 points adrift yes, but above that it's very close with 3 points separating the next 7. A couple of wins will make a huge difference.  Lets be positive!

What formation are we playing?

The B-Ark / Best formation?
« on: December 07, 2016, 01:43:10 PM »
In a vain attempt to be proactive in these troubled times, let's debate the best formation that we should adopt in our current position in order to be constructive to Bunny & acknowledging that we only have these players to work with for the time being. The next 4 games are winnable (FCUM, Curzon & Trinityx2) despite only winning 1 of the last 10!

My view would be to keep it simple with a 442, rather than tinker with the more complicated 41212 etc, which I think has exacerbated the defensive confusion over recent weeks. The lads have very little time on the practice ground as it is, so get back to basics, get players in familiar roles & concentrate on the job in hand. my shout as a 1st 11 would be:
Emery; Clappison/Thomas, Joe Robinson, Brown, Gordon; Marshall, Miles, Maguire/Hilliard, St.Juste; Rollins, Smith

The B-Ark / September v August
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:42:31 AM »
I know we're not playing well at the moment, but take a look at the next 6 fixtures & if we're still in the same predicament after September, heads need to roll. However, I'm confident with more time playing together & an improvement in the injury situation, we'll climb that table. We've played 6 of the top 8 in the table in our first 7 matches, & the other one, Stalybridge, we should have won. In our next 6, we play 3 below us, & the highest placed is 11th. Importantly 4 of the 6 are at home, so let's make York Street a fortress again, get behind this young team & give them some confidence.

Whilst it's good news that Kaine & Grant are staying, defensively it's worrying with no Pidge, Garns, Zak & Marrs. Fingers crossed on Dayle!

Also see Dayle's now one behind in the top goalscorer chart. I'm sure he'll want to put that right at the weekend...or thereafter??

...for the last 6 games anyway! Interesting to see Stalybridge's recent good form - no guarantees there.
