The B-Ark / Back to back games
« on: September 13, 2016, 02:58:09 PM »
Pilgrim86 managed a very quick turn around on Saturday to make two games in a day but I've got a slight twist on it in the next 24 hours or so.

Setting off down in the next couple of hours for tonight's game, then afterwards driving down Hertfordshire to meet a friend who is a Leicester season ticket holder and we then head to Bruges in the morning on the train.

So Conference North one night and Champions League the next, you could say one extreme to the other  ;)

There must be a few others with similar quick turn around between matches attended?

The B-Ark / First look and first impressions
« on: August 10, 2016, 10:02:39 AM »
Strangely positive after that last night, expected what I saw really, lots of energy and effort but a distinct lack of communication and coordination.

The communication as others have said is leadership, we have lost massive personalities since last season.  Interesting that Jay Rollins said post-match on Saturday how different the changing room is.  Given by full time he was the only player from last season on the pitch for us it shows what a massive shift in such a short space of time it is.

Compare that to a very strong Harrogate side who were up there with us last season and have kept their best and added well, no wonder we are short of them.

If Maguire is to continue with the armband then silly bookings like last night need to be cut right out.  He could easily have just either knocked the ball short, or taken it with him and dropped it as you see so often, to stop a quick break rather than booting it miles away and picking up a card.  He did well to stay on the pitch with a questionable challenge in the 2nd half.  On that the ref was in need of some calming down, how many bookings in the first half? Amazed it ended 11 v 11!

Wade clearly has ability, no doubting that at all, but frankly his work rate was limited by that lack of fitness, that needs fixing quickly.  Not knocking his effort at all, kept going for the full 90 but he needs to be sharper.

Likewise all the lads dug in which was very pleasing, at 2-0 when a few chances have been missed I wondered if we would see heads drop, not a bit of it, worked hard and made more chances even into injury time.

Wide we looked strong, end product will come, quite possibly with Smith coming in on Saturday?  St Juste and Rollins I like a lot and also Courtney Wildin had a fantastic run towards the end.  We have good players who need to become a team quickly with a lot of expectation and pressure on them, it won’t be easy.  There will be misplaced passes, confused calls, poor corner routines – because it’s so early and it’s such a new side.  BUT the effort and energy is there, no player gave in and nor should we.

I'm reminded of Chris Cooks programme comments of a couple of years back, young players need encouragement, I made a point of getting near the tunnel and clapping them off and giving words of encouragement as they left the field.  They looked flat, as you would expect and also good they don't want to be happy with a defeat no matter how well they performed, but they need a lift and we can give it to them.  Get to games if you can, I know it’s not easy (says a season ticket holder who lives in Leeds!) but we can help turn this around rather than accept it.

The B-Ark / New deal for Dennis and next seasons prices released

Far from his biggest fan but if the on the pitch results of the last three years continue (or improve!) then its a good contract extension.

Also pleased to see a slight increase in the prices, sounds daft but I think its needed as the playing budget will need a boost for next season if we are to get anything like a top 5 finish.  All aboard!  :)

The B-Ark / Worth a mention, HT against Telford
« on: October 11, 2015, 09:17:56 PM »
Well done to all involved in getting the Positive Pilgrims HT mini game arranged.

Walking back to the car after the final whistle I got chatting to a lad who played, he was absolutely over the moon with the support they got from the crowd.  He said he got two cheers, one for a good tackle and one when he got the ball booted into his face!

Many reasons I'm proud of our fantastic football club, the work the United in the Community guys do is one of the biggest.

The B-Ark / If you think its bad this morning
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:02:56 AM »
November 19th 2008, Tommy Taylor gone and we are in the relegation places of the Unibond Premier.

June 9th 2007, Relegated TWICE and still not sure we would even make the start of the season.

February 3rd 2004, A robbing wanker announces a cheating wanker is coming back as manager.

Mornings I've felt considerably worse than this.  It's bad folks lets not deny it, but it's not as bad as those.

Like LCB says, support the lads and lets have a right good day out at the Tinpot Towers!

Young player and clearly been offered a wedge and deal till the end of next season.  If you were in his shoes, you would.

The B-Ark / Play offs, who is your pick?
« on: April 29, 2012, 08:22:33 AM »
Local interest for me as FC Halifax and Guiseley made it and looking at the form table on Ken's site (not great reading for us...) all four sides in it are carrying some decent momentum into the games.

http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/tab11.html

I think Guiseley will make it, good form, home advantage (possibly) in the final and have recent experience of it from last seasons campaign.

Although really it's anyone but Tinpot and I'm happy ;)

The B-Ark / Wise words but they make me worry
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:30:33 PM »
In the Programme on Saturday Chris Cook's notes had a point specifically referencing Tom Ward and keeping his feet on the ground/not letting it go to his head.

Should we take this as meaning he is getting attention from other clubs to the point of receiving offers?

I'd say he is in a very similar position to Pearson after the Unibond promotion year, got a break, shown progression but still needs to do it more consistently and also get the chance (not always the case if you move up the ladder) to do so before adding a few quid extra.  If he really turns into a player and not just a prospect the money will take care of itself.

All for players moving on and bettering themselves (Church and Pearson recent obvious examples) but the time and destination has to be right.

The B-Ark / You know when things are bad
« on: March 26, 2012, 05:06:37 PM »
Apparently Ross Hannah (AFC Halifax) was not given the match ball after netting a hat-trick, Bishop's Stortford said they could not afford to hand it over!

Harsh.
