The B-Ark / Pilgrims' hopes for 2018
« on: January 01, 2018, 07:07:44 AM »
Happy New Year!

What are people's expectations for BUFC in 2018?
What's the minimum come New Year's 2019 that would constitute a good year for the club, in your humble opinions?

Left Alty I see. Proven goalscorer, 31, based in Doncaster apparently so relatively close.

Worth a punt?

The B-Ark / Is the new stadium too big?

I just. I've been looking at the artist's impression on the Council website, and while I'm all for the move, I can't help but feel it's a bit ambitious?

The B-Ark / Stadium Consultation: Workshop Feedback
« on: February 15, 2014, 03:10:51 PM »
I know a few articles were discussed on here earlier this week, but not the results of the consultation period that have been posted on the official Quadrant website this week.

Among them, this document which is of particular interest to Boston United fans: http://thequadrantboston.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Supporters-Stadium-Consultation-Workshop-QA.pdf

A wide variety of questions (and answers). Particularly interested by the hopes to screen the game live on TVs in the concourses, and the plans for a family park on matchdays. Slightly worried about congestion/delays leaving the ground at full-time. Also notable that dugouts aren't necessarily going to be installed!

Has anybody been to Chesterfield? Comfortable legroom there?

The B-Ark / Six years on...
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:58:23 PM »
Six years ago today we dropped out of the Football League. I'm sure I've got the DVD somewhere.

I wonder what people would have said if asked that day where they thought the club would be in 2013 (bust, probably)? I'm sure most people would have snapped your hand off if your offer was to be one league below Grimsby and Lincoln. How would you evaluate the last six years? I think the consensus was that Tommy Taylor put together a good side in a short space of time in 2007/08, but in hindsight - I can't help but wonder what his budget was like compared to the one with which RS and PH (and JL and LC) finished 3rd with a few years ago - after we'd had successive budget cuts. I remember him saying that the team should be shot if it didn't make the top five. We really should have done with that budget. TT was full-time as well. Not that any of it mattered with the subsequent demotion.

I wonder where we'd be now if the original Standing Alone consortium had taken over the club. Mind you, if one good thing came out of that then it was the hand of Barrie Pierrepoint.

The B-Ark / David Newton's Latest Thoughts

Interview

The Chairman was upbeat about the quality of applications. Five applicants have been interviewed and the Board would be happy with 3 of them but haven't yet agreed who should get the job. One of those three seems to have a bit more experience than the others and has managed at a higher level.

The B-Ark / Your Lineup?
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:33:00 PM »
21 players is quite a large squad for us. On the eve of the new season I wondered what people's starting elevens would be?

I won't include Tom Ward for the moment due to his injury, and will work with a 4-3-3 formation seeing as that seems to be the manager's preference.

------------------------------------------------------------
                                Dan Haystead

Gary Silk    Kern Miller    Nathan Stainfield    Gareth Jelleyman

Ian Ross    Matt Wilson    Ben Milnes

Spencer Weir-Daley    Marc Newsham    Ben Fairclough
------------------------------------------------------------

I think the defence could be very solid this year. Both Silk and Jelleyman are very experienced and Nathan Stainfield will hopefully continue his impressive displays from last season. The only question mark for me concerns whoever partners him in central defence. I've opted for Kern Miller over Travis Munn, but I could easily change my opinion and I haven't seen enough of the new signings yet. And of course Tom Ward, as shown by when he scooped the player of the month award, has potential.

The midfield three seems well balanced to me and although I haven't seen Matt Wilson play yet, he sounds like exactly the kind of player we needed to complement more creative players like Ben Milnes.

The forward three have plenty of goals in them and I hope the trio are able to have a lengthy run of games together without any interruptions.

------------------------------------------------------------

I would worry about not having a plan b with this system. We look quite reliant on playing 'pretty' football through the middle. None of the three forwards I've named are particularly suited to the long ball, and the formation obviously means we have less width in midfield too. That problem might be emphasised by the fact that both of our full-backs are aging and might not be able to make flying runs down the wings. I did think the release of Ryan Semple was a mistake. We saw how he and Jamie Yates provided us with a very fruitful attacking outlet two seasons ago.

Of course we do have Joe French and Jason Stokes, neither of whom I can comment on, although if we were to use them in a different formation then I would question why we released a winger who would surely be one of the better ones available at this level?

Overall, I think it will be interesting to see in the first five matches or so how we get on with whatever system Jason Lee uses. Flexibility is needed to challenge for promotion so I think how Jason Stokes and Joe French get on could be key.
