The B-Ark / Prediction League - Boston United vs Guiseley
« on: September 18, 2021, 05:43:24 PM »
Back to National League North action with a visit of Guiseley. My Computer is predicting a narrow Boston win. I'll go with that, so:

Boston United 2-1 Guiseley (1450)

The B-Ark / Corby Town tonight
« on: September 14, 2021, 10:39:00 PM »
I see Corby Town won 5-0 against Histon Town this evening - with their substitute goalkeeper coming off the bench and playing as an outfielder and getting a goal. It's going to be a tricky FA Cup game on Saturday.

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Boston United vs Corby Town in the FA Cup
« on: September 13, 2021, 08:44:51 PM »
Boston United have played Corby Town three times in the FA Cup - all at Corby and all Boston wins. I'm going for another Boston win - with the same score as the 1973/4 game where the FA Cup run ended with the matches against Derby County in the 3rd round proper.

Boston United 2-1 Corby Town (1400)

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Leamington vs Boston United
« on: September 04, 2021, 05:36:45 PM »
Recent games indicate anything could happen with this one. Both sides have already had matches against Curzon Ashton and Spennymoor Town. Boston lost to Spennymoor and beat Curzon Ashton and Leamington beat Spennymoor and lost to Curzon Ashton. My Computer is predicting an Away Win. I'm going for:

Leamington 0-2 Boston United (650)

Leamington are due to play Gateshead on Tuesday night, so you may want to see what happens in that one before making your prediction.

The B-Ark / Bradford Park Avenue match photos
« on: September 01, 2021, 08:19:46 PM »
I've put the usual set of match photos over on my Facebook page and shared it with the Boston United Supporters Group.

I've also put a selection in the Gallery on my web site: http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/bradfordparkavenue300821.html

Took a bit of getting used to the camera again, but I think I've got a few decent snaps. I've tried to get a shot of every player so it's easy to identify all the new ones - although the names on the backs of the shirts helps a lot.

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Boston United vs AFC Telford United
« on: August 31, 2021, 07:32:42 AM »
It's usually a close game against Telford. My Computer reckons a draw. I'm going for:

Boston United 2-1 AFC Telford United (1650)

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Bradford Park Avenue vs Boston United

Always a difficult one to predict. With very little to go on My Computer reckons a Draw. I'm going for:

Bradford Park Avenue 0-1 Boston United (350)

The B-Ark / Railway Athletic at York Street
« on: August 24, 2021, 02:14:40 PM »
Just spotted Railway Athletic's fixtures in the Boston & District League on the web. Obviously as it's a Saturday League their fixtures will clash with Boston United's, but if you fancy another trip to the old ground then there should be a chance.

Here's the link to the fixtures.

First game there is 18th September vs Sibsey FC in a cup game, then on 23rd October vs Northgate Olympic in the Premier Division.

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Boston United vs Curzon Ashton
« on: August 22, 2021, 09:38:46 AM »
Curzon Ashton have only played one game so far this season - a 1-1 draw at home to Guiseley, but they have got another game midweek - a trip to Chester on Tuesday evening. So you might want to wait until that one concludes before making your predictions. My first prediction is here, but I may well edit it before the weekend.

Boston United 2-1 Curzon Ashton (1600)

The B-Ark / Prediction League - AFC Fylde vs Boston United
« on: August 15, 2021, 09:18:04 AM »
The last thing you want is an opening day loss at home followed by a trip to one of the best teams in the league who inflicted a 9-2 defeat against you at their place not that many seasons ago and who convincingly won their own opening game 4-2 at Guiseley. My Computer is predicting another resounding Home Win, but as they say, football's a funny old game, so I'm going for:

AFC Fylde 2-2 Boston United (1650)

The B-Ark / Prediction League - Boston United vs Spennymoor Town
« on: August 08, 2021, 03:22:24 PM »
The votes have been counted and the clear winner for the prediction method was option A - Scores and Attendances - the original.

For those who haven't played before, it has been all about predicting the results and attendances of Boston United's competitive first team games throughout the season. As the season goes on you accumulate points and the winner is the person with the most points at the end of the season.

It's just a bit of fun! There's no entry fee, but there is a prize apart from the honour of being the winner as Oxo has said he will provide one.

All predictions must be made before kick off - although I'm open to bribes of a pint of Batemans XXXB or Dark Lord to accept predictions that are a few minutes late.  ;D

You get 3 points for the correct score or 1 point for the correct result.

For attendance predictions it is 10 points if you get the attendance spot on or 3 points if within 5% or 1 point if within 10%.

Soon after each game I usually managed to process the scores and update the points table and post it on Patter.

You are allowed to edit your prediction right up until kickoff time.

In Cup games with extra time or penalties it's the score at the end of normal time that counts.

If a game is postponed or abandoned then all predictions for that match are null and void.

Just post your predictions in the thread on here for each match.

Here's my prediction for the opening league game of the season based on what My Computer predicted for this game last season. I reckon it could be a bumper attendance considering it's the first league match at the new stadium where fans are allowed in.

Boston United 3-1 Spennymoor Town (1800)

The B-Ark / Stamford Match Off
« on: July 16, 2021, 11:42:11 AM »
The official BUFC site is saying that the Stamford game is off as:

"The Daniels have been removed from the competition following a rule breach. United will consequently progress to the semi-final stage later in the season."

Whereas the Stamford web site says:

"Due to an administration error at the football club, Stamford AFC will take no further part in this seasons Lincs FA Senior Cup competition."

So it looks like Boston have got a bye through to the Semi-Final. So what happened?

The B-Ark / Prediction League - 2021/2
« on: July 14, 2021, 10:48:03 PM »
I'm late starting up the Pilgrims' Patter Prediction League for 2021/22. I missed first competitive game - the Lincs Senior Cup game against Lincoln Utd, so I'd better get it going before next week's match at Stamford AFC.

Fans are now allowed into games so I have to decide whether to revert to predicting the attendance or to stick with the first goal time predictions that we had last season. If I can get my spreadsheet writing head on I may be able to do both.

For those who haven't played before, it has been all about predicting the results and attendances or first goal times of Boston United's competitive first team games throughout the season. As the season goes on you accumulate points and the winner is the person with the most points at the end of the season. There's no entry fee and no prizes apart from the honour of being the winner. It's just a bit of fun!

You get 3 points for the correct score or 1 point for the correct result.

For attendance predictions it was 10 points if you got the attendance spot on or 3 points if within 5% or 1 point if within 10%.

For first goal time predictions it was 10 points for spot on, 3 points within 2 mins and 1 point within 5 mins. If you want to predict no goals will be scored just put in a time of zero (0) and you will get 8 points if the match does end 0-0. A time of 45 covers all goals in first half injury time and a time of 90 covers all goals in injury time at the end of normal time. You can be inconsistent with your result and goal time prediction so you could say predict a 2-0 Boston win and a goal time of 0, or a 0-0 draw and a goal time of 7 minutes.

So if I finalise what predictions we will use by Saturday night I'll start up the League for predictions of the Stamford game on Sunday morning.

So let me know your thoughts and suggestions asap. Would you like to make predictions of:

A - Score and Attendance
B - Score and First Goal Time
C - Score and Attendance and First Goal Time

The B-Ark / National League Relegation
« on: April 21, 2021, 02:15:40 PM »
I've been keeping an eye on King's Lynn's results and the BBC website keeps saying things like "King's Lynn improved their National League survival chances with a 1-1 draw at Aldershot." I thought there was to be no relegation this season, so are the BBC as up-to-date and well informed as they usually are? (i.e. they haven't got a clue)

If there was relegation then there would presumably be a case for some teams to get promoted to fill the gaps - already short after Macclesfield folded and a good argument for kicking out Dover as well. If there were some promotion slots, as one of the best performing teams in the National League North Boston United would have a good case to take one. However, I bet the league would find some excuse to not promote Boston United.
