I see Worksop lost 5-0 at home to Mickleover in the Trophy yesterday!

In my opinion it was the weakest starting XI/bench we have fielded all season. From the starting XI that beat yourselves there was no Liam Hughes, Terry Hawkridge, George Taft or Aleks Starcenko, plus Greeny, who came on as a sub against you, was not involved in the squad.

We had Regan Hutchinson, a wing back, playing his first game since August, but playing in central midfield and Colin Daniel starting only his second game all season, the other was in the County Cup against a side who were bottom of a step 6 league.

Whilst no-one will admit I got the impression yesterday was all about getting through the game with no injuries or suspensions ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie against Stockport.

To be fair to Mickleover they were a good footballing side who passed the ball well.

We had Tiernan on loan at Worksop at the start of last season. He looked a decent prospect and was one of the best keepers I saw in the NPL East division last year.

This agreement caused lots of confusion in an early round of the Vase. A local team to me, Ingles FC visited Melton Town and beforehand had agreed on a replay. However, after the game ended in a draw, the referee was having none of this agreement and insisted on extra time. Melton won but on appeal Ingles won the replay. Who said the referee knows best?

The problem was not with extra-time being played it was that the game was decided on penalties when the two sides had agreed it would go to a replay.

In the FA Vase if the scores are level after 90 minutes then it is mandatory that extra-time is played. If the scores are level after extra-time then the default is the game goes to a replay. However, the two teams can agree in advance to finish the tie on the day with a penalty shoot-out if they so wish, but this should be clearly stated on the match arrangement form which is sent to the FA within 7 days of the draw being made. If the tie is going to be decided by a penalty shoot out then the referee has to be informed no later than 45 minutes before kick-off.

As someone who has to complete the match arrangement form for FA Cup and FA Vase ties I can confirm that it clearly states on the form that extra-time is mandatory in the FA Vase (and FA Youth Cup).

A bit of a side issue regarding goalkeepers being captain, I have found that when I have gone to exchange the team sheet with the opposition/referee invariably the referee asks if there is an outfield player that can also act as captain that they can talk to if necessary.

This is normally to save a bit of time e.g. if there is an incident at the other end of the field to which the goalkeeper is standing that requires a "quiet word" with a player and captain. They would rather have a quick word with the player/senior outfield player who can act as captain rather than drag the goalkeeper the length of the field and back. If it was to discuss something major then they would normally involve the goalkeeper.

Looks like we are looking for a better version of smithy. Think we may have missed a trick with Denton

Who was the last manager who isn't Billy Heath, to sign Denton?

Simon Clark was the Worksop Town manager who signed Denton from Alfreton Town. Denton left us to join Billy Heath at Ferriby when we resigned from the Evostik League. Since then he has followed Billy Heath

Dre Johnson joined Worksop after leaving Derby County 4 or 5 seasons ago. Since then he has played for several clubs including Matlock Town, Heanor Town, Stamford, Halesowen, Frickley, Corby Town and Alfreton Town(where I think he finished last season).

Pacey striker.

Hardy doesn't fund Basford. Notts may rent training facilities down there but that's all

Basford are self funding. They've got a couple of wealthy businessmen in the background but Hardy is not one of them

Their facilities are second to none at Step 3 level and with a little tweaking could get to Step 1 level. They pay big money out for that level (10k transfer fees and 400 plus a week) and if they get it right could well be in NLN next season but the Northern Prem is increasingly tough

Chris Munroe is one of Basford's backers, by his own admission he has spent £1.5 million on them as they have risen up through the leagues in the past few seasons.

Ash Jackson looked a very good prospect when he was at Worksop several years ago playing for our U19's. If I remember correctly we picked him up after he left Scunny.

Good luck to the lad, I hope it works out for him.
