The B-Ark / Re: South Stand
« on: August 16, 2023, 07:00:08 PM »
Have we all forgotten that we made back-to-back (either side of the abandoned season) play-off finals before last season’s dud campaign? People speak as though we’re a million miles away but over the last 13 years we’ve repeatedly made the play-offs and multiple managers have proven that can be achieved on the resources provided by the club.

Those resources are only growing thanks to the new ground so I find it hard to accuse the board of allowing the club to drift. David Newton didn’t commit the goalkeeping howler against Altrincham, Chris Cook didn’t throw away the first leg lead at North Ferriby and Neil Kempster didn’t miss a penalty against Guiseley. Only two teams can be promoted and eventually we’ll have our day. The board can’t guarantee we’ll win any given game. They can give a manager the means to build a team capable of winning promotion, and I think they do, given we’ve twice been 90 minutes away from going up.

I’d have preferred a bigger end terrace but as has been pointed out, we had to move anyway and could well have ended up with a tinpot ground given the club didn’t have any assets or money. The main stand, the pitch, the floodlights, the concourses with the nods to our history, the 5G facility… the club’s got a brilliant new ground all things considered, and after 2007 I am still thankful just to have a Boston United who I can watch lose 3-1 to Bamble Warriors on a nippy Saturday in February.

Happy New Year!

What are people's expectations for BUFC in 2018?
What's the minimum come New Year's 2019 that would constitute a good year for the club, in your humble opinions?

The results are very worrying and unfortunately I think a change of manager is required - and I speak as someone who has previously erred on the side of giving managers more time. (Personally I think it was a shame to lose a manager that delivered three consecutive top six finishes, and it’s been a case of careful what you wish for, but clearly some had other issues with DG.)

When a manager has been here as long as AM has, we have always been able to tell by this point - basically - whether they are going to be a success or failure. Even if results improve enough to avoid relegation, does anyone really believe Adam Murray will put together a team challenging at the right end of this league? Will his results be at Scott/Hurst/Greene levels, or Drury/Lee/Canoville levels?

I don’t believe this is a very good squad, I don’t see an upturn in results coming, and the football I have seen has been, I’m afraid to say, dreadful. Worse than at any point under DG so I’m surprised more people aren’t calling for change.

Sport science and fine margins is useless if you can’t get a talented squad together on a budget. Fundamentally, a good recruiter is what BUFC needs in a manager more than anything else.

Left Alty I see. Proven goalscorer, 31, based in Doncaster apparently so relatively close.

Worth a punt?

Someone mentioned the recently departed Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray.

I often find it's difficult to judge potential new managers because in most cases they'll only be available because they've been sacked, which never makes them look an appealing option, and win ratios don't tell you anything about context. That's why I like to see what fans of their previous clubs make of them if possible.

I asked a Mansfield fan the other day what his opinion of Murray was and he said he a good young manager who would be a good appointment.

Hope DN persuades him to stay. If the play-offs is the furthest DG can take us that's good enough for me.

Not sure what happened to Neil Redfearn after he left Leeds or whether we could afford him, but that is the sort of manager we could do with. Northern based, hard as nails, with very good all round contacts. GHM always says who would you put in, instead of the existiong one--well we dont know who is available, but we sure as well know that the existing one, in my view is not the right one for the club.

Replace a manager who got us 3rd last season with a guy whose time as a first team manager earnt him the nickname "Relegation Redfearn"?! No ta.

I just. I've been looking at the artist's impression on the Council website, and while I'm all for the move, I can't help but feel it's a bit ambitious?

The B-Ark / Stadium Consultation: Workshop Feedback
« on: February 15, 2014, 03:10:51 PM »
I know a few articles were discussed on here earlier this week, but not the results of the consultation period that have been posted on the official Quadrant website this week.

Among them, this document which is of particular interest to Boston United fans: http://thequadrantboston.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Supporters-Stadium-Consultation-Workshop-QA.pdf

A wide variety of questions (and answers). Particularly interested by the hopes to screen the game live on TVs in the concourses, and the plans for a family park on matchdays. Slightly worried about congestion/delays leaving the ground at full-time. Also notable that dugouts aren't necessarily going to be installed!

Has anybody been to Chesterfield? Comfortable legroom there?

Have the floods dine any damage to York Street and the ground??

We should be ok - our defence is much better than it was last season.

You win the internet.

If one of the rooms isn't sponsored and called the Jakemans Suite, then they are wasting everybody's time.

Nathan Koranteng's run and goal in the thrashing of Durham a few years ago was good. Admittedly it was against poor opposition.
