Have had a discussion with a very senior ref who has looked at the footage. Red was not justified. Attacker heading towards corner flag so next action (if not collided) could not reasonably have been a shot on goal. Doubt we'll appeal it under the circumstances.

Looking at last season's NL table, if I've got this right, 55 pts seems to get you into relative safety. 44 games left. The biggest issue is going to be ability to start defending.

Nothing is as sweet as going away as underdogs and beating the home team.

The next best thing is going to the league leaders as underdogs, fighting hard to give them the scrap of their lives and gain the upper hand, and finally stealing a point back from them in the dying minutes when they had confidently expected all 3. Happy days. There has not been an away atmosphere like that for quite some time.

I was very glad to see that the headlines were dominated (in our minds), in the end,  by a really decent effort across all of our players against a team who deliberately time-waste (led by the time wasting supremo in goal. Scintillating speed from Sotona and Smart, complimented by amazing hard work from Hazel, paired with a seemingly re-energised J Knowles. The alternative headline would have been one about a game marred by some poor officiating. As someone has said on here, the ref perhaps took time (45 mins) to adapt to the realities of NLN and Alfreton's special brand of entertainment. But we all have good days and bad days and I am sure lessons will be learned. Referees too, mature and learn over time (usually). Most people thankfully did not resort to mysoginistic comments and in that sense the majority of our fans did not let our Directors down. Happy Christmas to all true Pilgrims

Personally I can’t find any sympathy for anything or anyone  at The Walks.
The Chairman thinks he’s a gangster and seems to have little sustained respect for any fan base. It’s always seemed to me  that it’s a case of how much he can take out of their pockets every chance he has.  And before anyone tells me how it’s the fans that suffer, well I’m sorry but I can’t sympathise there either.    A couple of years ago a section of so-called fans were p*ssing into pint glasses and then lobbing them into an away section where youngsters were stood with parents!   The stewards watched and turned away, allowing it to happen.    Would I lose a minute of sleep if they folded again?    100% not.

I am entirely in agreement (as one of the ones with my kids spattered with piss). Nasty club, nasty fans, inept and unfriendly stewards. My only regrets if they go under will be: 1) how much I have spent on tickets there only to be treated like a convict; 2) our 6pts in the next 7 days against them will be chalked off as they are struck from the league.

Happy happy happy, and on we go to Stortford, hopefully brimming with grounded confidence and self-belief.

Agree Oaky. We just have to wait and see what transpires in the rich tapestry of BUFC supporting life....

I just don't know what to think TBH - a bit underwhelming. The passing football is scintillating at times but the end product is all to often disappointing. Our goal was well worked and Mooney did well in the finish from a tight angle. I felt that after H-T, all attention became focused on not overdoing it and saving energies for Buxton - somewhat going through the motions to get minutes into the legs. I hope that's the correct analysis and it is to some extent justifiable in a friendly. Fearful for another mediocre season, if not. Wilson and McLintock both probably need to start...Gyasi seems better against a tiring defence later on.

Broadly agree. After watching the first half I couldn't see entitely where the goals would come from, other than perhaps McLintock who has clearly benefited from some rest and Martin, but defensively we looked solid (gone was the panickyness of last season) with an impressive performance from a R-back triallist. In the second half it began to be clear where our goals might well come from this season and again a triallist (attacker) looked pretty impressive alongside Keaton Ward. The rapid transition from defence to attack via a fluid midfield that seemed comfortable in posession with a reals sense of urgency. I have not been this content with the pre-season look/feel for some years. OP you are correct, 'long ball'/'hoof ball' was just not present yesterday.

He got a two year sentence and a six year ban from football grounds so he won’t be a lot of use

6 year ban as a spectator (only). He may have to wear a blindfold or a paper bag whilst sitting on the bench

The manager so poor he's taken a village side to a higher place finish than us!

I don't think you were wrong Eddie. A capable and competent (full-time?) side who know where each other are on the pitch and are well drilled at all times. Big, physical and pretty cynical with tackles and dives; know exactly how far to push it on gamesmanship, to take advantage of some weak and inconsistent officials (2 of the 3 were poor standard today). On the flip side, we did not trouble them in front of goal (although some of the build up play was nice and would have undone lesser defences in this league), showed them too much respect and the result was largely inevitable from that point on.
