Wondered how long it would come round to the "bully boys" argument. We made the Play Offs last year, and should do this year, without much presence except for Pidge and Garns. Would you rather we went for less skill, and more brute force? It might not work!

As per my above post, "I don't want a team of 6' thugs", but I do think we are lightweight in midfield when Garns plays at the back, and we do get knocked about in that area. And much as I'm a huge fan of Mark Jones workrate, in my opinion he's easy meat for defenders on the aerial stuff. When Dayle's fit, we play the ball forward differently, so the centre-half's physical prescience is less effective, as we play between the fullback and centre half rather than straight down the middle or as wide as we can, which it was seems to happen when Dayle's not there.
Jones isn't a target man, and we don't (usually) play long balls to him. Jones' strength is on the ball, and any other striker we have is not great aerially either.

Ill agree, im on the pro jones side here as he very good at getting the ball and holding it to bring other players in, with a hard run in our team may need to rely more and more on fast breaks where jones will play a big part in these bringing wingers in. our big thing be kaines confidence as it seems low

See quote above "I'm a huge fan of Jones' workrate", see other post, I never claimed Richards was a "midget". Quite the opposite, I said the presence of a bigger midfielder was a current weak spot, and yet it seems I'm to be misquoted, and then corrected with what is my own opinion, making it look like I said the opposite! No more posts from me. WKP over and out.

The only players we need to return are Dayle, Zak and Dylan.
Dylan came on very briefly for Sunderland u-21's midweek

I wonder why some players that come in then end up going out on loan so quickly. Take Robbins for example, here is what Dennis Greene said upon signing him:

"He's like a bigger version of Ricky Miller. He's got a hammer of a left and he can score goals out of nothing," said Greene.

"He's not really a poacher of a centre forward, he tends to score more individual goals.

"He's a really good addition and he's ready for this level. He should be playing higher in my opinion."

So what's gone wrong ? Is DG just a bad judge of character ?

TEP

Looks like DG got that one wrong on the face of it , but since signing Robins the return of fitness of Felix and other signings have speeded his departure .  Good to see a manager always trying to improve the team .
Got him loaned out so no big financial loss , unlike some managers in the past who gave long contracts to poor signings .

Is DG a bad judge ?           Miller ,Southwell, Pidge , Garner ,Marrs,  Felix , Mills , Roberts etc . maybe goes a way to answering your question TEP .

Add loanees  Dixon , Max Agnew, Jordan Richards, McEvoy etc .

....on the other hand....deacey, Sheridan (twice), dean-conteh, stone, walker (twice), sarpong, lavell moore, Gledhill, Doran, meadows, Hollingsworth, barlow, Reynolds, macdonald, njie, dongo, clunan...maybe these throw the answer to your question more open to debate than first thought??????

CORRECT WKP,  lets debate it .  The 17 names above are spread over 3 seasons , that is 6 a season on average .  You will find most Con NORTH teams turn over more n/c players and trialsts than this .    Even some Nat Prem sides match these figures .(Imps!)
Now we are looking at P/T non-league football wkp ,  not the Man U,s etc that you watch on Sky .   These Prem teams have squads of 40+ players which makes life easy on the training ground 4 hours a day .

If you was team manager at BUFC how would you set up pre-season training ,
a .    Practice moves and set pieces with 11 men v  7 men and 4 cones  :), or
b,     Give trialist who turn up for nothing a chance and practise 11 v 11 .?

How would you organise  training sessions?
One thing I do think we have right is time spent on set pieces, as we regularly create a lot of good chances from them. Sure, we don't always score, but obviously a lot of time is spent on them, it shows.
're:trials...pre-season is the right time to both scout and invite younger players to come and show what they've got, not in the middle of February during league matches. If he wants to do it mid season, then do it in the u-21's and then put the better lads on the bench, but not 4 at once because you have no-one else, other than loan players who aren't recalled!
Thirdly, one thing I think we struggle with is some teams play bully boy tactics deliberately to knock us over. Other than Garns and Pidge, we don't really seem to have anyone with a bit of edge, to stand up to the physical stuff, and that's something I think needs working on. And no, I wouldn't want a team of 6' lumps, just a little more physical prescience of our own.
And last but not least, I hate ManU and am so pleased they are struggling, but I avoid watching their 40+ squad, as I think they're cr*p!

What's going on ? Why haven't we made four new signings since the shocking display last weekend.

Very disappointed.

TEP

4 new signings or a settled team?????

#confusedopinionagain

It's called sarcasm. Usually BUFC fans are shouting for replacement players after any defear, especially 2 in a row.

And it's irony from me!!!! Never mind, I'll be more brutally straight forward next time!!!!!what I meant was it seems some fans change their opinions more than their underwear, not necessarily yourself of course. :)

Here are the updated standings after:

Boston United 0-3 Stalybridge Celtic (1202)

Nobody predicted a Stalybridge win, but lots of people got close to predicting the correct attendance with nikko being closest at 4 out. Nice try by West keal pilgrim - but editing your prediction after the match isn't really a prediction. :)

As usual I was trying to be wise after the event!!!!!! No offence intended, I'm so far down the league, I'm in danger of relegation!!!! Like Dennis, I'll try anything once!!!!!!

The B-Ark / Re: Q: When is a keeper not a keeper?
« on: February 15, 2016, 06:46:51 AM »
How many keepers at this level want to be sat on the bench? ???
Or are prepared to regularly sit out games? ?

Seems quite a few judging by how many teams have shown up at York St over the last few seasons with cover on their benches.

Fact is if they are prepared to sit on the bench week in week out they are most likely a poor keeper not in demand , or an average keeper demanding a big wage .

Let's not forget Matt duke kept Fabian out of the Alfreton team, and barring 1 cock up this weekend, he's been good so far

SC were direct when they did attack, whereas our players tried to pass too much and some of the passes were shocking and ended up playing themselves into trouble.  Garner has a habit of just launching the ball forwards without looking and I felt sorry for Felix in the second half who, despite out wide with nobody marking him, hardly got a touch of the ball.

Please clarify....we're we poor because we "pass too much" or "launching the ball forward"? #confusedopinion

Robbins - fast or slow or lazy isn't the point here - he can be a match winner.

TEP

Obviously not if he chooses to be slow or lazy, as he wouldn't be winning a ball let alone a match. And that is my point. Sands is a far better option in my opinion.

I agree, he has more of a presence on the field for more of the time he's out there. He looks like a player who will score if he's give a proper run in the side, but yet again it comes down to settling the side, as players who are in and out will never be able to give consistency.
