Phew. I was beginning to worry that Matlock might go short of strikers in October.
It might indicate Knowles is a bit more injured than previously thought?

I remember the shock and disgust of many when we went up to the football league we were no longer to be trusted with plastic bottle tops when buying a bottle from the snack bar. Thankfully now we're back in the Non League wastelands they don't seem to mind all the disgraceful bottle-top related incidents that occur every game.

Colby Bishop to Accrington https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48975554
Didn't do much for us, but banged them in last season for Leam after being sat out for 10 months with an ACL injury.

For me it's a toss up between Hinckley in the league or Barwell in the FA Youth Cup a few years back. Now I have to make do with Nuneaton.
Glad Leamington have stayed up though, as I only work 5 minutes down the road!

Devon Pilgrim, you also had Tiverton in the FA Trophy. All I remember about that game was the pitch was as awful as our performance.

The B-Ark / Re: Nuneaton today

I thought it was Walker who scored, but having not seen either of them play before and there being no team info anywhere, it could well have been Simmonds. Or A.Trialist.

A short-ish report:
I missed the 1st 10 minutes due to the game kicking off 15 minutes early and Nuneaton's ground being a bit of a joke of closed turnstyles and portacabins. The first half was a bit of a scrappy, disjointed affair with both teams suffering with the gusts of wind making long passes near impossible to judge. Our best attacks came from the wings, with Walker (or whoever it was I thought was Walker) being the pick of the bunch, always looking a danger when he could run at them, and producing several good crosses. Thirty seconds before nuneaton scored Southwell hit the bar when one on one with the keeper from an angle. Their goal was an unmarked volley in the box from a cross. Maybe should've been headed clear by someone, but I don't know how much the wind changed the path of the ball on the cross.
In the 2nd half we looked a bit better, creating some good passing moves and always attempting something slightly creative in the final third, even though just hitting it might've sometimes been the better option. But I understand Nuneaton's side was mainly trialists and people not playing much, so it wasn't the most organised of defences. Our goal came from one of the several decent throughballs onto someone making a diagonal run. We could've/possibly should've scored another one or two in the second half. One move late one came close after substitue McGhee (I think - I'm notoriously rubbish at identifying players from distance) played a perfectly weighted ball earlier in the move. Louis Saebe and a Youth team (I think) Defender came on as subs for 20 mins and both looked ok, but not quite good enough to challenge the first team this season. Saebe had a decent header saved at the near post right at the end.

A decent run-out, but I'm glad they didn't charge an entry fee for standing around in the freezing wind.
I'm guessing on Tuesday's game against Lincoln, Garner, Steer, Felix, Hollingsworth and Jones will play, as they didn't today. But then judging by their thrashing, most of Lincoln didn't play today either.

The B-Ark / Re: O/T E Petition for Boston Bypass if anyone is interested.
« on: October 06, 2014, 12:41:48 PM »
When I was back in town for the FA Cup match the other week I shook my head yet again at the state of the traffic in town. Who's great idea was it to re-route all the right turning traffic over a bridge, round a roundabout and back over the bridge again, through an extra three sets of traffic lights? How is that meant to reduce jams?
And then to add in those temporary traffic lights, which I didn't see till I'd driven past them. Not only are they small, they're also so low down that pedestrians can stand in front of them, as they were on Saturday afternoon. Routes with high freight volume get additional traffic lights added which are taller than normal, not smaller. I'm surprised there's not some legal issue about it.

To add to the bypass debate, if anyone's driven to Kettering recently they've seen the lovely new A43 Geddington bypass just after Corby. I've been on it a few times now since it opened this summer. Four miles of dual carriageway, a couple of roundabouts and bridges costing 34 million, and I've never seen an emptier road in my life.
I'm aware that a Boston Bypass would be more than 34 million for even a single lane road, but if money can be so totally wasted on this dual carriageway it makes you wonder exactly who is making these decisions and what kickbacks they're receiving.
