Someone was asking for the floodlight photo from Portsmouth in the F.A.Cup, found it in the end a bit late though !!

Perhaps fans could contribute to the cabinet.  Not worth a lot but I think I have a scarf from 1985 Wembley cup final.

I am only speaking on behalf of myself at the moment, but I am sure we have items that we could loan to the club.  There are definitely many photos of Dad’s especially of the trip to Germany for example.  Also there is the Wembley ‘85 flag he made that flew at the ground and was on the front of the open top bus.

Have been looking at an old thread of this topic, Becky ( Nicks daughter ) posted these, that we have run out to.

Olympic spirit
Munich Fanfare March  ( both from our golden era )

Washington Post
I'm a Tiger
The only way is up
United/ Judas Priest
Are you ready for this
Final countdown

All these to tie in with our celebrations

We still have most of them at home aswell !!

It would be a nice touch in celebration of this old stadium, for the teams to run out to these old tunes.  Perhaps your dad would have a stint as announcer for a match.

I don’t think he would, he hasn’t been to watch Boston since he retired as announcer.  He does still keep his eye on their results though.

It's a shame Becky, I remember Your dad appearing on TV ( about Anglia.)  He spent his School summer holidays repainting the old Stands.

He never said he appeared on tv for it !!

Becky, I have just read your post again. I think you are saying Nick did the painting, but in his modesty did not tell you he had his 15 minutes of fame. ;) ;)

Yes sorry, I knew he had painted the stand.  I just didn’t know he had been on tv about it.  I will ask him about it when he’s back from holiday !!

Is a reserve team shirt I think and maybe even the youth team wore it.

Trophy Shelf????????

Do you remember the size of that thing that we were presented with having won the Dr Marten's League? It was the size of a door.  Where did we store that?

You mean this trophy ??

and this is the orchestral version of The Final Countdown

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV75qGY7jBk

This one went on just before 2.55pm so there was enough time for most of it to be played before the team came out to Olympic Spirit.

Rightly or wrongly I know associate The Final Countdown with the Evans era so dismiss it.

That Olympic thing is epic though

Steve Evans never chose the music, all he asked for was something dramatic in the build up to the team coming out and his actual words were: "You know what you are doing"

So it was left to Me and Dad to find something suitable, which we hope we did and we always seemed to get positive comments especially from visiting officials.

That nice Mr Thompson once put all his matchday choons onto a tape for me, and I still have the tape if it's any use. It includes the Munich fanfare and the one he played at the final whistle which was a bbc theme - I think it was 'sportsnight'. I've certainly never heard the Munich march anywhere else so I reckon it must be unique to us and worth consideration again.

It's the BBC Athletics Theme, I'm sure but I will check it with Dad.

I've just tried the Munich Fanfare March out on the record player and it sounds okay, far better than the only link I could find on the internet  :D

^^ This is the only place I can find it, also this version is a big band version which Dad's record isn't,  but at least you'll get an idea of the tune.

 :)

Hope that link works.

Okies so I've been speaking to my Dad and this is what has been used in that past:

Washington Post - Sousa

Munich Fanfare March
(this was used for a long time until the record broke, it was transferred to tape but you could still hear the click from the break on the record  ;D )

I'm A Tiger - Lulu
(this was used in the last season of Don Donovan because at that time United were in stripes)

Also songs that have been used were:

The Only Way Is Up - Yazz
United - Judas Priest
Are You Ready For This - 2Unlimited

The best one that we used and was the more recent one until Dad stop announcing was The Olympic Spirit by John Williams and the tune that was played just before that on a matchday was an orchestral version of The Final Countdown.

We tried to use music that maybe no other club had for instance Fanfare For A Common Man was quite popular with other clubs and that is why we never used it.

Some of the songs were the choice of the manager at that present time also.

Hope that helps  :)
