Sorry Big-Tom, at the moment I do not know how bad it is. I do not live or work anywhere near Ilson so have not had chance to to have a look. I shall try and find out and will post on here if I do get any information.

Please keep an eye on our forum or club website tomorrow morning for further details:

http://www.worksoptownfc.co.uk/ (http://www.worksoptownfc.co.uk/) (website)

I shall be out tomorrow morning, but as soon as I get home I shall post the result of the inspection on this site if no-one else has already. I shall find out very quickly just will not be in a position to post!

If one of you wants to send me a pm with your mobile number I shall text/phone you with the result of the inspection as soon as I hear it so you could post on here?

Don't worry Finchley Tiger our webmaster Craig will no doubt have the result of the pitch inspection up on the OS within seconds of the decision.

Last season I seem to recall that our game at Ilkeston was postponed about three times due to a waterlogged pitch, so I wouldn't be too hopeful. The weather forecast overnight is -3 only rising to 0 at 9.00am, so if it's not waterlogged it will be frozen!

Doesn't look good with the frost out there. In this league perhaps the fa should consider is it a 'fit and proper'  ground. Also a good business opportunity in this league for the production and sale of wellies with studs and fitted shin pads.

Kettle! You don't think our resources stretch that far do you!!

I'm assuming it is to give the sun a bit more time to do its best.

Isn't that just typical?

I've missed the last five matches due to illness.

I'd passed myself fit to go to this afternoon's match and was absolutely chomping at the bit to go after missing nineteen United goals. And then this happens! At this rate I'll need someone to remind me what colours we play in.

I'm just a few miles away, and I'm quite shocked the game is off.

Ilkeston need to sort their f**king pitch out.

In the search for a Saturday of watching some footy I'm going to see if Sheffield FC's game against Brigg is on.  I only live a few miles away so that may have to do.  I've managed to miss every away game that I planned to go to this season due to weather; drat!!!

Yep with BPA playing Durham we will indeed be 6 pts off and they'll still have a game in hand. Also like you say a draw or win for Retford at home to Matlock and they go above us, but that'll put them on same amount of games.

Just looking at our and Worksop's fixtures at least 1 team is playing midweek apart from 30th March, the 13th and 20th April. 30th March Ilkeston are playing at home so it looks like a very late midweek game. My money is on 13th splitting our 2 home games up.

Edit: If Ferriby and Retford win both today and Tuesday we'll be down to 4th before we play again and will be 6 points adrift of Retford too  :(

Oh yes it can!! I live just outside Retford and we often have totally different weather to the Nottingham area. One day over the Christmas period we had 5-6 inches of snow whereas friends in Nottingham had no snow at all! I would say there are about 45 miles between Retford & Ilkeston.

However, I was a little surprised the game was off. I've just got back from Chilwell in Nottingham, which is not too far from Ilson. I was in Chilwell at the time of the pitch inspection and where I was there was no sign of frost even in the shade. The ground under foot would certainly have taken a stud.

Looks like it will have to be Jeff Stelling or the 20/20 international now!!

I went to Dunkirk FC, and their match was on. They play on the southern outskirts of Nottingham... was a bit muddy, mind ;D

I live in Nuthall, just a few miles from Nottingham and a ten minute drive from the Manor Ground. The weather can be quite different from the city - we had a lot more snow up here a few weeks ago than the city, which is just a few miles down the A610. But I was surprised the game was called off, conditions here were fine... it was a lot worse last season when the game at Ilkeston went ahead.

One of the few Nottingham grounds I've not seen a game on (although I have run the line on their second pitch fact fans!) I think the problem yesterday was with stands casting shadows on the pitch. Grounds with a decent amout of cover were off (Mansfield, Ilkeston, Eastwood etc) grounds with little cover were on (Dunkirk, Gedling, Gedling MW etc) I've not been to Retford but I assume its in the second category?

Perhaps a lesson to be learned here, don't build stands so close to the playing surface. A financial plus spin off to this would be the hire charge for binoculars like they have in London theatres. ;D

A mate knows Retford's ground and just last week described it to me as "a glorified cowfield with a clubhouse & parking for about 13!".

Mind you, he's a Trinity fan so may not be unbiased.

Matlock fans who went to Retford yesterday claim that the pitch was inferior to their own. Can it be that bad ?

Judge for yourself, this is from their website:

http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/retfordunited/?primary=aboutus&secondary=location&third=location (http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/retfordunited/?primary=aboutus&secondary=location&third=location)

The photo was taken prior to this season as there is now a small stand opposite the clubhouse. However, there is very little cover. This is one of the things they are working on at the present in order to get the required grading. The sun would have had no problem getting to the pitch to help thaw it out!

The comment about room for parking for only 13 was way off the mark. There is lots of room on the field behind the far goal as well as the tarmac area behind the goal as you enter the ground. I have seen well over 150 cars possibly 200 cars parked there with lots of room for more. They certainly have more than adequate parking for the size of crowds they get.

Parking on a field, in winter?

Parking on a field, in winter?

Must be better than the playing surface, why don't they park on the pitch and play in the carpark?

Blimey, I lived in Dunkirk for two years and didn't even realise they had their own team.
