Title: New Signings???
Post by: PompeyPilgrim on June 20, 2009, 09:48:47 AM
Must say I'm quite happy with the signings that have been made so far...  Any idea when we're going to get anyone else in though?  I'm hoping that our younger players impress enough during pre-season training to be signed on perm contracts such as Beck and Jackson...  Also any ideas when the new strip will be ready to buy, quite fancy having a new one this year.  Up the Pilgrims!!!  :)

I was hoping to get one to wear on my run around Leeds tomorrow, but unfortunately Craig tells me they won't be available until about 6th July - so I'll be running in the same strip as last year.  8)

Thats both the slight worry and the conundrum PP.

We haven't signed many, and surely it means only a couple of things,
a)the managers are struggling to convince players to travel from Derbyshire (it is a trek),
b)dont have intimate knowledge of local players,
c) possibly they have so many irons in so many fires (player wise) that they are waiting for the futures of a lot of their targeted players who may be trialling at clubs in higher leagues to be determined before pouncing

or.....

ignoring all that, they might simply be both on their hols and in the next couple of weeks a whole posse of players will be signed ;D

Is it really that much of a trek? hour and a half to play football which all players should be prepared to do if they love playing, oh and i think they do get payed fairly well if you work out the hours that they actually work....

It might be an hour and a half on a Saturday morning with nothing on the roads Dave, but you could stick up to another hour at 5.30 in the evening, a bit more if they come from the Rotherham/Sth Yorks area and 2 maybe 3 times a week, certainly initially just for training, when for a month I imagine they get no wages, it actually comes to quite a few hours and a fair bit of petrol money
Maybe, just maybe, before someone suggests any negatives here, its why some players here last year were offered less for the coming season. Logically if any players were making such a trek they presumably will want and will have to be paid accordingly

In truth, I imagine I would I would

Lets over exagerate this abit....3 hours to get here, 2 hours training, 3hours back, 3x a week=24 hours.......how much do we guess they would be on coming from that sort of area? £200-300? at £200 that works out at over £8 per hour.......I should'nt think any of the people on here earn much more per hour and would guess that even less get paid travelling time.

HOOF is quite a big clue. He's unhappy at his current club, but has a year left there so probably shouldn't give a name.

Not sure of the chances, but he's been in contact over the weekend

Matty S-Hocking wasn't hoof was he? Don't think those legs had the power in them to project the ball against gravity?

We need double hard bastard centre backs that would jog to away games drinking real ale, have a chippy lunch then stub out their fag on the strikers forehead before kick off.

We should be writing in Blood bonuses not clean sheet (or shorts) bonuses.

Seven players signed, one in plaster, and training starts in six days up at the camp. Looks like Cranwell Pilgrim will have to wander up to the camp sportsfield with his boots to make up the numbers. Scored a brilliant goal for Park Board Juniors against Saint Thomas School in 1960. Floated it in from the left wing!!
Seenbetter ought to come and bring his boots too. He was always the star in the 22 a side games at "the pit" off Frieston Road in his day. Again, early sixties!!!

Ah the good old days. Northern Premier league, chopper Howles, Johny Lakin and the rest. Afraid that Cranwell Pilgrim and I Are a bit too wobbly for the game now. I hope Boston Goals doesn't read this in case I have spilt something rong. I do feel a winker missing out the H. Perhaps I have a blind spot with certain spellings just like some of our former players had a bloody great blind spot in front of goal.

BROWN LEAVES DRAGONS
26/06/2009

Nat Brown has left Blue Square Premier club Wrexham by mutual consent - despite having twelve months left to run on his deal.

The versatile player, at home in defence and midfield, has reached an agreement with the Dragons to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

Brown (pictured), who joined the club last summer when Brian Little was in charge, spent the majority of last season on loan at Coca-Cola League Two side Macclesfield Town having failed to cement a place in Dean Saunders' side.

Kirk, is a really really tricky and lively winger, who will skin many a full back, he's really superb going forward. Showed great loayalty to Stamford over the last couple of seasons and will excite the crowds thats for sure

But...he most certainly is not a grafter, and when it comes to tackling ,Gary Lineker looks like Chopper Harris in comparison. If we are doing well and offensively pushing forward he will be a great signing, defensively though, he is a bit of a luxury

Exciting signing though. I do like the managers comments about him though, especially, like with Jamie Clarke the chances are, being based in Rotherham they might not have actually seen the lad play

The lad they should be signing from Stamford though is their young 18/19 year old centre half Pearson, now he is quality

That actually raises another point, is it just me, or is it slightly concerning that quite a few confirmed signings and rumours of future signings are predominantly coming from lower divisions? :-\

Thats not to say they wont be good, remember how we were quite critical when Miller arrived from Spalding, but why are we not being linked with more proven players from the Unibond or BGB prem?

Just a thought but has the fact that training is going to be held locally instead of the muted plans to do so in Yorks, which is a 100% correct decision, put off many of our managers intended signings from joining?

No-one knows why for sure, I certainly dont, but am still disapointed that neither Miller and now Ellie who surely would have been skipper will not be donning a shirt next season. How can Retford convince him to join them, it suggests, and I do say suggests, his wage demands could not have been as high as originally thought otherwise one assumes Retford couldn't have afforded him

Just looked at squad info. 8 players and possibly 2 more to come, soon have a team. Notice that they are all British so far, so we could call them the Brit Chicks and hopefully I won't have to switch off when they come out to play. We're getting there. Must not expect too much at the beginning though to avoid disappointment. Would rather let my expectations grow as the team develops into a formidable force able to take on the likes of Ossett Town. Incidentally, talking of Ossett Town, went to our game there and had a good day out. Short trip up the M1, found a good pub for both food and drink, and more of us than them. Must take my dog next time cos its the only ground I've been to where you can walk your dog. Recommend it but the pitch was crap.

So if Ellie would have liked to join Boston and the wage was not an issue then it is only left that he was not considered good enough. Be interesting to see who HnS think is good enough. I am not criticising, just curious.

  1 x experienced goalie

        2 x midfielders
           2 x strikers..

For the people who have been saying why didn't they retain more of last seasons squad I have just seen this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/8070661.stm), don't think it has been spotted by anyone on here. So confirmation that last seasons squad where indeed on big wages and this is the reason so many have been let go  :-\

Must say BBC non-league do tend to report most things B.U.F.C .. so its a usefull source of info . . away from the O/S .

The lad they should be signing from Stamford though is their young 18/19 year old centre half Pearson, now he is quality

Writing style gives him away, is he a relation to Ricky Miller in some way   :D ;D Have to say I thought he was an ok bloke when I spoke to him in person but don't like the way he is portraying the club on internet forums think he should keep that sort of thing to himself. Let's hope he's right on this young lad Pearson.

edit: just like Chelsea the Kendal fan who is now trying to convince us he's 1 of us. Obvious he's a rival fan with all the bitter comments he puts on here towards the club.

If you're right about that it's no wonder he's a bitter and twister so and so - he's got to live with the fact that he supports Kendal Town for crying out loud. Surely that's enough to justify euthanasia.
Now waiting for the vicious attack from the I hate Boston United anonymous club lol

So if Ellie would have liked to join Boston and the wage was not an issue then it is only left that he was not considered good enough. Be interesting to see who HnS think is good enough. I am not criticising, just curious.

Exactly what i was thinking especially after the 100% that he put in which along with Rick saved us from relegation!!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. How can they think the above two weren't good enough, especially if their wage demands were sensible
I assume Ellie would have been a ready made skipper as well

Strange old game is football, but his replacement Pearson, I predict will be a star!

See Mark Greaves is training with Trinity, wouldn't say no to him coming back.

same but can't see it happening Trinity seem to be spending money at will atm it will come back and haunt them i think , surely they would offer Greaves alot better wage than we would off because of it

It can't be ALL ex-players the new managers don't want then.I always liked "Canners",good player and should be a quality signing providing his fitness is O.K.

Canoville. At 28 the oldest player in the squad so far. It's coming together, a young ,fit pot bellyless team. We haven't seen one of them here for a long time, except when they were visitors.

Jamie Stevens name was floating about not too long ago, and Anthony Church from Ilkeston seems to be on trial here as said on previous topic

other than that i have no clue at all tbh

no doubt soon some rumour about JJ will be around like towards end of last season
