Well, call me daft, stupid or idiotic after last Saturday - but I've bought my match ticket for Southport. Lol!! £3 cheaper than Chester too.
The train journey this week is direct, so hopefully, a much smoother return trip for me than the one I wrote about on the Chester FC topic.

Well at least Josh won't be alone....... :-\

I am aiming to go as well as we have so few games around Manchester these days. Also travelling by train with a few hours in Southport before the game and back from Moels Cop afterwards. Several years ago it was on such an occassion that I first met MeNoSkinny, wonder what he is doing now.

Yes, we used to have so many away games virtually on our doorstep.
Stockport County and Altrincham would be your nearest G.P. I suppose, and then Hyde not too far away either?
My nearest ground was Salford City (4.5 miles), with the nearest in our Football League days being Bury (6.5 miles). In the FA Trophy a couple of seasons ago it was only 6.5 miles to Atherton Collieries.
-
Correct, and we had Droylsden and StalyVegas and I think Ashton United briefly. I miss the trips to the Staly railway station bar.
-
Living in N Leics, I'm missing some local(ish) games e.g. Tamworth, Nuneaton and the defunct Hinckley. Coalville, if promoted, would be 4 miles away and a Spoons pub very close to the ground.
-
Meantime we've got Blyth Spartans, Gateshead, Spennymoor, Darlington and South Shields likely on the way. A few years ago there were hardly any North East clubs. Newcastle is the new Manchester!
-
I've not really found any great pubs in southport and often make the trip on my own as nobody else really fancies an early start there!
So I'll get in an hour later than previous visits. But will still get to Meols cop for half 12 and head to the thatch and thistle
Cantnbe doing with the walk from southport Station to the ground
Not expecting a result so can't be overly disappointed when we lose
-
JOSH B: I still get the shakes when I think about Southport away. AM was the boss, first game of the season, 4-0 defeat and Gregg Smith sent off within 10 minutes of coming on the pitch for a blatant elbow. Added to that a truly night mare journey up the M6 meant I missed the first 15 minutes.
On a brighter note, I see we play Gloucester away early in the New Year. I guess you know a pub near the station. Let me know and we'll have a pint or two before the game.

Am I allowed to moan yet?
-
Yes!! Same old same old. Can’t score away from home
-
Staggering.....wait until we are 2-0 down before bringing on the one forward who can make things happen.....what's Jake got to do.....

FFS it gets worse

Oh dear, another defeat on the road, seems like we haven't had an away run like this since the FL days.
I don't think David Newton will sack Craig Elliott any time soon but if I was him I would be asking some questions such as:
What is our style of play? Because at the moment we don't really have one, not only do we not create chances we also can't defend for toffee.
Is Craig good enough to not only take us to promotion but also hold our own in the NL? I really like Craig myself and he's done a good job up until this season, but I think it's starting to become clear that last full season was the high water mark for him and he's taken the club as far as he can. Also if he does go he leaves the club and team in a far better position than when he found it.
I would hate to start seeing a negative atmosphere around our brilliant new stadium, and Newton and co deserve every bit of support through the turnstiles. But as things stand we have not been good enough this season and I've lost faith that the current managerial team have it in them to turn this ship around.
I know people have been saying Culverhouse and Bazza but they aren't available at the moment. They are however struggling in the league above (lost 6-2 today) and sounds like their delightful chairman has pulled the rug out and moved on most of the best players there, so will they be up for a new challenge? Interesting one.

Very disappointed with 4-1 result as I predicted 3-0 loss on here. Are we overating the squad or are they just poor? If we aren't there is only one person culpable for our woes. If we don't see an improvement shortly then I fear that everything will unravel very quickly which would be a tragedy for our wonderful owners who have performed miracles providing us and the town with everything we could have possibly dreamed of. On the bright side I am at least £60 better of by missing the game although it was just as painful listening to the commentary on radio. Will be there again next week selling golden goal tickets and praying for a performance to cheer us all up. UTP

We've certainly seen better days away from home that's for sure. Today was better than last week at Chester, but it couldn't really have been any worse.
Thankfully, I'm just two short stops before the end of my train journey and will be home very soon.
Still, I'm very glad we've not got a cat!!

Not being negative but Craig hasn’t got a plan b when we are loosing,he seems to stick with his mates and doesn’t seem to see things that others see .Whats with all the backroom staff they all seem to give out different instructions

I couldn`t see the point of only having two strikers up front who were outnumbered too often Only when Jake came on did we show any urgency and throw more people forward. On another tack, did anyone notice Crook being put under constant pressure during their set pieces? There was no help from his defenders. Also, there was a lot of shoving and timewasting tactics from Southport. If we had retaliated, there would have been been more sendings off. Clearly, the Southport management had done their homework on us and it worked. All credit to them. Shiels was a shadow of his normal self which was understandable after a lengthy lay off. Garner played his socks off and kept going to the very end.

I think the biggest shame is that BUFC could only name 4 substitutes. Surely it was opportunity to name a Youth Team player on the bench for the experience?

Or even a sub goalie just incase. Didn't notice, but did GSK travel with the squad to Chester & Southport?

It would have been but it comes down to getting forms done and ratified in time.

Seems like the Southport manager thought the result flattered them. Check out the early part of his post match interview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w_a5i53xWY

A lot of the youth team play for other local sides on a Saturday, too.

Just watched the manager speaking to Craig about Saturday.
Reading between the lines could be a few departures in the near future.
Seems he's not happy with some of the defenders.
