Title: Railway Athletic at York Street
Post by: Ken Fox on August 24, 2021, 02:14:40 PM
Just spotted Railway Athletic's fixtures in the Boston & District League on the web. Obviously as it's a Saturday League their fixtures will clash with Boston United's, but if you fancy another trip to the old ground then there should be a chance.

Here's the link to the fixtures (https://fulltime.thefa.com/fixtures.html?selectedSeason=509097391&selectedFixtureGroupKey=1_572108460&selectedDateCode=all&selectedClub=347173353&selectedTeam=&selectedRelatedFixtureOption=2&selectedFixtureDateStatus=&selectedFixtureStatus=&previousSelectedFixtureGroupAgeGroup=&previousSelectedFixtureGroupKey=1_572108460&previousSelectedClub=&itemsPerPage=25).

First game there is 18th September vs Sibsey FC in a cup game, then on 23rd October vs Northgate Olympic in the Premier Division.

Couple of things about this!

- Why are they still referring to it as the Jakemans Stadium? Surely that sponsorship deal is long since defunct and it's now officially York Street again?
- The more I think about it, how on earth are they going to get a licence for spectators to enter the stadium? Or are these no longer required at Saturday League level? Can you actually just throw open the gates and let people in? Seems a bit iffy to me - there are now large chunks of the stadium stripped out, e.g. the benches in the YS end and lots of advertising boards missing in the Main Stand leaving holes a small child could easily topple through. The Town End is surely in a bit of a state too, it was half-condemned before we even stopped maintaining it. Same for large parts of the rest of the stadium.

It's in far better shape than a public park with needles and smashed glass everywhere.the sort of grounds you normally get in the Boston Saturday league

Yeah, but parks aren't covered by health and safety certificates. I mean, maybe YS doesn't need one at that level, but theoretically, what if they get 1000 groundhoppers show up and there's a crush at the one turnstile open? Or are they just chucking open the gates and free entry? If so, how are they counting people in? It's just a very unusual situation.

Do Railway Athletic offer Advance tickets at a reduced rate? Will they have stewards walking round the stands shouting "tickets, please"?
