Title: Ellenders
Post by: Pete Brooksbank on May 19, 2021, 06:41:12 PM
Formally open to the public tonight after its "VIP" test event on Monday! First time the general public have been allowed anywhere near the new stadium, so a bit of a momentous day for the club really. Hope it all goes well and those there tonight have a good time.

Perhaps we shall have the debut of the Patter restaurant critic - or perhaps more than one?

Oh I'm sure we won't be lacking for people telling us how crap and overpriced it is - just give it time.

Went last night absolutely spot on. This is not an in an out joint everything cooked fresh so takes a little time which I like. Excellent service from the greeting to when we left  got a really modern feel to the place with some history chucked in and a good relaxed atmosphere nothing remotely negative to say.

I went last Wednesday in a party of five, and what a superb evening we had.

Ellender's has a prime spot in our imposing new main stand, and inside has a modern, fresh contemporary feel but cleverly mixed with lots of BUFC history (no spoilers!).

Whilst it's not a vast menu, that's not an issue and there is plenty of variety to suit everyone. Same too regarding drinks.

The service all evening was first class, and we genuinely felt like we received real value for money for the fare on offer.

It's important we support all the various components of the new stadium, and I can't wait to go back!

What beers are on sale?

Draught - Carling, Coors, Madri, Sharps Cold River, John Smiths, Sharps Atlantic, Guinness, Fenham Bitter, Pilgrims Bitter.

Bottled - Bud, Peroni, Black Sheep and a couple of alcohol-free.

If the Pilgrims Bitter is the one brewed at The Phesantry Brewery then that's a fairly high water mark to start at.

At least they've not gone for the easy option of Doombar or Abbott Ale

Food was high quality and I'd say normal price for an eatery of that standard. The slightly up market brasserie atmosphere/decor + BUFC theming is not on offer in the town, and much more akin to what you'd find in Nottingham, York or the L-word (without the BUFC history).

Yeah, I've not actually been there yet but the photos definitely have a "big city" feel to them in terms of the styling and decor. A few years ago I'd have thought, possibly unfairly, your typical football fan wouldn't have loved it, but times change and the old school non-league bar "working mens' club" style seems a very much outdated and obsolete style. Clubs like Fylde raised the bar (so to speak) but we've raised it even higher. I haven't seen a facility that pays homage to a club's history like ours anywhere else.

Looking forward to getting there and trying the food out. I think Ellenders could do very well as an evening restaurant - easy to get to, and a solid menu in a town where there isn't in truth a HUGE amount of decent evening dining.

It says no other parts of the site are accessible on the BUFC website

Open to diners only at the moment but once the pandemic is over I think the intention is that it'll be a bar AND bistrot, so you'll be able to pop in for drink if you like.

Kabia's bar is NOT open to the public.

I went on Wednesday.  I fully recommend it.  Nothing was too much trouble.  I did see four lads come in and sit down at a table.  I didn't see them order, but could have eaten after I left.  I intend to use it on a regular basis, I hope others do the same.  I recommend the fish and chips.

Happy to report the Sunday Lunch was faultless, good service, first class food and drink and a decent ambiance in there too.

I'll be going back again in the near future.

I, too, am happy to report that Sunday lunch yesterday was faultless. Service and food was excellent, and access for my mother in her wheelchair was a doddle. It's all very impressive. If I didn't live nearly 50 miles away, I'd be in there more often. We shall be the envy of a lot of clubs in higher leagues, let alone National League North.

Second visit on Wednesday and everything seemed even better, wonderful service, food and drink. Took our friends Rick and Jenny Lovelace and they absolutely fell in love with the place. It is now going to be a monthly visit for us all.

Me and my mate went last night.
All I can say is we had a very pleasant evening.  Service, food, surroundings were all excellent. Any way they could improve it, perhaps more variety on the menu.

Out of interest, which menu was it? Sunday roast? I thought the main menu they did on the other days didn't look so bad in terms of variety. I'm still trying to plan a visit myself, the short opening hours do make it trickier as an exile!

You can see the menu if you look on the united homepage.
I had fish and chips with mushy peas,  my mate had pie with mashed potatoes , veg and gravy.  Food was  good, in all it was a nice evening out.

Went last night for our second visit.  Food again was excellent, Guinness was well kept and very moreish. Two courses and two drinks came to £23.50 a head, very good value.

Only thing I can say is please use it. I left at 8pm and only four family groups were in.  I hope when all restrictions are lifted Ellenders will be the place to be seen.

We found the menu fairly limited when we went back in June.  Food was good, and they may have expanded the menu by now.  B)
We will go again sometime soon, but they need more variety if we are going to make it a regular occurrence.
The ale was off on the night we went so, left with a choice of lagers or wine, I tried Adams Ghost Ship bottled low alcohol IPA. Very nice it was too  B)

All ground floor and very good accessibility for people in wheelchairs.

Yes, I can second that. I've got my 93-year-old mother in and out in her wheelchair  a few times now, and it couldn't be easier - and the staff couldn't be more helpful either. I hope your father has as lovely a birthday there as my mother did a few weeks ago!
