Goodbye Oxford City
-
Gateshead are relegated to the National League North thanks to the league's decision to deny them a licence to play in the National League next season over financial irregularities.
Their plans as a football club will remain unchanged and will head into the new National League North season as a full-time professional outfit.

Well at least they have been treated the same as us,when we had financial irregularities.
Should imagine they would still be fancied to win our league.
Nice trip up to the North East this season, quite fond of that region, served up there whilst in Armed Forces.

Did we not get relegated two leagues?

They have not been treated the same as us, Banned from National Leagues but over ruled by F A. If those prats hadn't poked their snotty noses in they would have been treated like us and dumped in the league below. And as for a a nice trip to the North East don't you think we have enough of those? If you travelled to away games you wouldn't be so pleased.

I am sorry if you have had some bad experiences travelling up to the North East, but me personally have never had a problem with it, and certainly have never had an issue with the folk up there.
I have made some good friends from up there and also met my wife in Newcastle, so l now have geordie in laws.
As for travelling to away games, l have and don't have an issue with it.
If you don't want to travel up to north east, don't it's your personal choice.
I am sure they will miss you up there as much you do them.
As l remember we got relegated down one league and then given the opportunity to be out of the CVA by the following April, we didn't manage to do that then got relegated again.
Yes we missed the deadline by a few days, but the rules are the rules.
Harsh but true, we didn't make the deadline, missed our chance and took the punishment.
So your statement is completely wrong, as they have been treated like us.

I see Notts County have been accepted into national league despite not having an owner. They are also owing the taxman a quarter of a million. Now that is double standards. Also main interested buyer is a convicted fraudster.
-
Damn! My daughter lives in Oxford and I've already told her we were going to make a weekend of it.
-
North East clubs now getting a grip on the CN like the Lancashire clubs had done up 2 end of last season. So that's Blyth Spartans, Spennymoor, Darlington & now Gateshead; how many of them long away trips will end up being on a Tues/we'd night ? Just as well South Shields lost the P O final then! Only a temp reprieve: they will be promoted end of coming campaign.

Hardy will own the club until it's signed over to someone new.
It's not double standards as Notts haven't broken any Conference rules (yet?) and aren't in admin/CVA.

I remember the dearly departed BUFC fanzine FBYF once described Gateshead as like "an irritating turd you can't seem to flush down the toilet" as they used to yoyo up and down

A lot of talk re other clubs, ex players, managers etc,
What are our actual expectations next season?,
Where do Patter folk see us finishing?
I say 6th.

I suppose it really does depend on who else we sign, but l think you are probably about there with your prediction.
I will go for 5th.
-
It's not just about who we sign. It's about the attitude of those we already have. In addition it's the management's ability to get the best out of who we have.

Yes you are right, let's hope it all comes together very nicely and we can move to our new home, and celebrate it with promotion.
We will though need a replacement for Ben Davies though, l know he has been invited back for pre-season training but that's no guarantee, we won't be getting George Smith either.
But l am sure it's all in hand.

at the risk of sounding all doom and gloom, I don't yet see anybody or anything to realistically suggest we can achieve any more than finish mid table again.
Like many others I was disappointed with lack of achievement last season, none more so than CE himself, I'm sure. But he'll be the first one to acknowledge he failed to push (what were his own players not "inheritted") into the playoffs. Having spent the previous back-end and pre-season telling us how last year was his chance to push into serious playoff contention, it just never happened.
It would be very disappointing to say farewell to York Street with a damp squib.
I genuinely hope I'm very wrong with my gut feeling.
-
I'm afraid to say I can't see us being anything other than mid table again.
No one signing has made me think we've really improved on what we had last season.
Not that we'll struggle, but I can't see us setting the world alight either.
As TTT says, a very disappointing end to the York St era in all probability, and the worry has to be attracting new support to a new venture with no real momentum behind us.
Lots for the club to work on over the next few months for sure.

Exactly my thoughts .

I see the reasons for the doubts but surely we should be reserving judgement as there are more signings in the pipeline shortly, I feel I need to see who they are and see them perform before throwing the towel in. UTP.

Not a case of throwing in the towel Mel, more a case of being realistic and not getting carried away by those who hail every signing as the one to take us to the next level. It is what it is, much of a muchness in most people's eyes that I talk to.

Its all doom and gloom, for gods sake give them a chance first before kicking them down to mid table.
Nobody is ever happy unless we are over spending and going out of business.
We all want this club to be successful and no I am not content in being a mid table team, but l will reserve my judgement until November when we had long enough to see what kind of team we are.

you know something, OBT, It's a discussion board for Christ's sake, a forum. You may not agree with NF nor myself, but stop jumpng on people who don't share your opinion. The thread asked for an opinion which I have replied to in what I believe to be a considered way, so allow me my opposite view p!ease. To refer to The very last line of my post "I genuinely hope my gut feeling is very wrong." We all want success but we all have different ideas about it. I admire your eternal optomism, but I don't come on the forum saying it's wrong, it's just different to mine...

Yes it is a forum and we are all entitled to our different opinions.
I am sorry that you feel that l have jumped on all over your opinion.
I am in my own way trying to inject some positive thinking in to this coming season.
I am ever the optimist and wish all the best for the coming season.

We all want the best, but history has shown we've every right to be pessimistic......

I always compare our players to the top 2 teams that have been promoted the season before as a benchmark. So I think we have made some decent signings but none of them would have got in either Chorley’s or the Stockport side.
So not that optimistic, edge of the play offs again, sad end to York Street.
