So 11th in the League Table and 11th in the Attendance Table. I suppose you could say that makes us pretty much the most 'average' team in the National North.
How much higher, though, will our attendances be next season IF:-
(a) we are actually playing well and winning more games at York Street and
(b) in play-off contention?
1. 4,002 Stockport County
2. 2,500 York City
3. 2,367 Hereford FC
4. 1,943 FC United of Manchester
5. 1,838 Chester
6. 1,650 Chorley
7. 1,602 Kidderminster Harriers
8. 1,391 Darlington
9. 1,352 AFC Telford United
10. 1,244 Altrincham
11, 1,105 Boston United
12. 1,071 Southport
13. 859 Spennymoor Town
14. 801 Blyth Spartans
15: 799 Nuneaton Borough
16. 794 Guiseley
17. 666 Leamington (a devil of an average that is!!)
18. 645 Brackley Town
19. 534 Alfreton Town
20. 525 Bradford (Park Avenue)
21. 449 Curzon Ashton
22. 362 Ashton United

If we're top of the league or thereabouts for most of the season then add around 400-500 to our average so around 1500-1600. If we're in the playoff spots for all of the season add around 200-300 so around 1300-1400 (averaged 1358 in Season 2015/16 when finished in playoffs)

Irrelevant of play off a position in the league, if we halved the number of home games we lost it would undoubtedly add some to the gate every week. There was much apathy after Christmas due to home fans watching them lose again and again. And it was much documented that there weren't many home games when the post match views were very positive. If we could bring our away form back to York st 1,100 would surely become 1,250 without too much trouble.

1999 2000 when we won the southern league. Top from day 1 we averaged 1700odd
Bumper gate v Grantham, 3k v kings Lynn and over 2500 v Newport last home game
Think we only had one sub 1000 gate v Cambridge city midweek at 956
Comparable away support expected this season... Very little with possibly 2 or 3 exception's
We'd maybe nudge closer to 2k if we hit the ground running and last year at YS factor
Remember we aren't a hobby club like Harrogate, Fylde etc who would get gates 650 percent up on last year if we did well, despite us being isolated from bigger clubs

Exception of the Curzon community day we didn't get 1000 home fans in any home game in 2019 part of the season.
If we'd have continued to be in the playoffs after October we'd have kept our 1200 average which it was at the time

I never really fret too much about our attendances. The moment we come good again we'll have people flocking back who haven't been since Chorley.
Plus there's a whole raft of people who haven't been seen since 2007 who might come sniffing too. We all know a few of those - massive fans in the early 2000s, throwing their weight about, ignoring the warnings about Rodwell and Evans, calling the trust "shit stirrers", instigating forum wars... and who all oddly enough went very quiet after the double relegation and have never been seen since. The worst thing about being good again is we'll have these people back.

Great post Pete, I agree with everything you say.

I wouldn't say 'flocking back', 1200-1400 seems about the glass ceiling for run of the mill league games if we're doing OK, IE; play offs. Another season of treading water though will see 7-900 the norm on Saturdays.
Agree about the 'greatest ever superfans' though, you know they'll be shouting the loudest when we win and nowhere to be seen when the wheels inevitably come off. Lincoln City have about 6000 at present.......

By "come good", I was really meaning winning the title, or sniffing round the playoffs in the division above. I agree us being in the hunt for the playoffs in the NLN won't bring *that* many back.
