Stranger things have happened, but what a welcome back he would receive.
-
He't not the answer. He was hardly used in our good run at the end of last season.
-
But nobody else has been the answer since he left.
-
That doesn't make him the answer...
-
No it doesn't, but this team has a lack of passion and desire, Greg brings all of that to the team and aslo is not scared of giving his team mates a good kick up the arse.
-
No, no and no
-
No no no......
-
So does anyone have a clue were Greg is going to turn up??
I see Brackley have officially announced his departure.

Knowing our luck he'll sign imminently for Peterborough Sports and you know what'll happen next.

Yes YSP that would just be our bloody luck at the moment.

I am wondering though if he will turn up at Kings Lynn as they have released a couple of strikers recently.

or maybe he's Tom Denton's potential replacement at Alfreton?

You might just be right there TTT.
-
Greg would be a good addition at Kings Lynn it has been talked about at the walks and his name has been mentioned.
But maybe not a move at this moment due to them waiting on announcement of a new manager.
-
Yes he is........

Welcome back big fella .

Grab your chance Greg and let's see the powerful hungry version we had before your injury.

Here here.

From listening to the BBC lincs commentary Mark Hone said on a couple of occasions that we lacked a target man up front to have a plan B when required. When playing his best Gregg is an effective player at this level.
-
When he performs at his best Gregg Smith gives us a Plan B which we do not have at the moment.
-
Thought Greg put in a decent shift today considering he hasn't played competitive football for several weeks at Brackley.
-
Good players perform when the Ref blows the whistle.
-
Gregg's gone to Tamworth...
-
I wonder who made that decision, l shall miss the big fella again.
Good opportunity for him though, back with DG
-
Gregg's gone to Tamworth...
i did wonder when he didn;t appear during the second half last tuesday if all was well.
the writing seemed to be on the wall.
-
I would imagine Greg made the decision himself and that Greene has guaranteed him a starting place every week, which Craig wouldn't do.

The revolving door keeps turning.
Just does my head in, all of it.

Would hope that we keep a fairly settled squad now, all this coming and going is not good, think it unsettles the players and supporters.

l was listening to Radio Lincolnshire and last Tuesday's prematch interview, they asked CE about the new signing (Parkhouse) up front which "seemed a bit of a surprise". His answer included a comment along the lines of "never settling, that's me and who I am". But I'm with you, PP, I think a settled side are more likely to get a run of good results, but clearly CE thinks differently. It would be interesting to see if he had the same player policy at Shaw Lane.
-
With very few exceptions I think it is usually a bad idea to bring players back to the club again. I wish him well but it was clear to me that he was never going to be the answer. Hopefully our current ones given a chance can improve the situation but our total goals scored so far is great cause for concern
-
Gregg played his first game for Tamworth tonight at St. Neots 0 - 0
-
Like I've said before dt, we desperately need creativity. Players who can run with the ball, take the opposition on, get crosses in etc. This isn't GS so I'm not too bothered about this latest announcement.

A cult hero who we were fortunate to get for a second bite of the cherry. Tamworth's gain and our loss. Best of luck, Gregg.
-
Nobody can dispute Greggs effort prior to his injury, but not the same player since. He was never blessed with great skill unfortunately and if we have ambitions to get out of this league upwardly then we need players of a better level than smithy.
Hopefully he can settle at Tamworth.
Not sure he has acquired cult status with us, not with us long enough and not a good enough player.

A fair summary which fits all the strikers we have had so far this season .
-
Agree with that Holbeach. He was effective when CE took over and we needed to battle out of the bottom three but I don't think he has the skill, finesse, temperament or fitness to make such an impact at the other of the table at this level.

Agree TEP, Some of our fans had said Smithy could be our Matt Rhead? Apart from stature, that's where the comparison ended. Yes Gregg is committed & in your face but as u & others are posting he just doesn't have enough goals in him, the skill, or hold up play, which is needed at this level. When he first signed I really saw him as a CF who was young enough & with good coaching, could really improve in to a top striker. Yes he suffered that dreadful ankle injury, did well to fight back, but the main Areas mentioned on here regularly where he needs to improve, never materialised? Still I wish him all the best & expect him to do v well at that level.
-
Hope it works out for Gregg at Tamworth. Always gave 100% and that's all us fans can ask for... good luck big man!
-
The problem is, the writing was on the wall when Allott arrived at York Street, Gavin has in his game that Greg does not have, perhaps that's why CE signed him.
It is a real shame that Greg doesn't have it, l listened to Greg's interview after his first Tamworth game, in which he refers to the fact that he wants to rediscover his form again, and thinks Dennis can help him do that which l think he could.
Now do we have a underlying problem here with CE not being able to get strikers scoring again, to me it seems that way, if you look at the departures so far it makes very worrying.
Marriott, Margets, Arnold, Westcar, l am sure there are others that you all could mention.
Regardless if we think that the before mentioned were just taking the money, sadly CE did not get the best out of them.
That's a fact but very sad.
-
YC - refer to my earlier posts. I don't think the responsibility rests solely with the strikers here - it's the creativity around them which is missing. Some of our forward players have been able to generate this themselves to a certain degree in the past - Thompson, Southwell, Miller etc but the average run of the mill striker at this level needs service - something we are sadly lacking. Rollins comeback can't come quickly enough.

-
Good points yc and tep . hope Rollins live up to expectation after a long term injury.
-
I think that we will struggle to score goals with anyone up front because Craig seems to be very conservative in his tactics and unless we can find someone with a conversion rate of over 70% of chances to goals (not much hope) our scoring record will not improve much.
We seem to be set up to get better results away from home. So it may be that if we want to see the best of our team we need to get on the road.
-
Yes h56 - like my 345 mile round trip to Ashton on Saturday !!

The bottom line is we need to sign a goalscorer. Absolutely like it or lump it, Dennis Greene brought such strikers to the club. Mark Jones, Ricky Miller, Southwell, Sands, I me a what part of it don't you Get!! Craig is like Murray clueless to solve the problem.
-
Maybe Reece Thompson will be back. I don't think he's even scored this year for Guiseley ?

Hard to score when you're injured!

Couldn't agree more Champs, it's an obvious problem that has not been fixed.
We don't have any direct strikers who can trouble defences, the opposition must love playing us, as l doubt any team actually fears us.

Not all season son.

Danny Rowe signs from Braintree
-
Now we know why Greg went. This was obviously on the cards for some time. Could be good signing we need a goalscorer pdq
-
Is it just a continuation of revolving doors ?
-
Let’s hope he scores more for us than he has for Braintree.
-
Let's hope he's got some creativity to his play or else he'll just be relying on our usual service!
-
Is it just a continuation of revolving doors ?
i'm dizzy
-
So we have signed a striker who is not scoring goals, and so far CE has not yet managed to get any of the past and present ones scoring goals.
Hmm let's see what happens with this, let's hope this one doesn't get ejected through the biggest revolving door in non league.
-
As a life long supporter, who has an opinion about a lot, but knowledge about little. I think that if we sort out the midfield we will have a tidy team. Prolific scorers seem to dry up when they put on the amber.
All the matches I have seen this season had the same problem, a 50 yard gap between defence and forward line. We need midfielders not forwards.
Anyway, good luck to the lad and welcome to Boston.
-
Let’s hope he scores more for us than he has for Braintree.
He's made 1 start (away at Fylde), and 2 sub appearances this season, totalling 68 minutes.
-
Should be match fit then?

Some of the web stat pages have him profiled as a defender/holding midfielder, aged 21?? So is Rowe a striker then,?

Yes, he's a striker/winger.
