Title: Bank Holiday Weekend Games
Post by: Bodge on August 21, 2018, 04:50:32 PM
Home win and point against Bradford would be a good return for the 2 games. Would love 2 wins but expect Monday’s game to be a difficult one.

Fancy BPA to do well this season with the squad they have.  They also came unstuck away at Leamington so it can happen to the best of us.  Will be a good test for us on Monday.

Due wins over both. Spennymoor haven't made the best of starts, leaked a few at the back. BPA have been quite steady. But don't see why we can't get a result there

They will both be worried about us, we have a very good team now,we all need to start believing in these players and manager.

Sadly l shant be able to attend both matches as I am off sunning my bum in Turkey for a week, but will be following the games sitting by the pool with an ice cold beer in my hand.

Just out of interest if we manage to win the next 2 games it would mean before the end of August we could have 2 points more than what we had at the beginning of December last season.

Just let that sink in.

We could potentially be 3 months better off than last season if we beat both Spennymoor and BPA..

this assumes the Spennymoor keeper is fit and the bus doesn't break down on it's way this season!

With their recent from, l would think they are praying for the bus to break down.
Or the team suddenly get abducted by 👽 alliens.

Oh dear a loss, l was sitting by the pool in Turkey listening to the game on endeavour.
So l am not going to comment on the match as commentators don't always give you an accurate account of the game.

thought we were poor today and if we played all night wouldn't have scored and always looked vulnerable to balls over the top. I think we still lack someone in midfield who can put his foot on the ball and pick a pass.
Also a little concerned that its first time Craig has tried to excuse a poor performance.

Its only one game so onwards and upwards for Monday.

Poor all round today, and against a team who hadn't scored away, and to me were fairly ordinary. How we bounce back on Monday will show is exactly how serious a threat we can be to the top of the table. One game can be viewed as a blip, but we need to keep the pressure on, and not let it become 2 games without a win . UTP

Had enough of the ball but never did anything with it. They did to us what we did to alty, plus time wasting/canny game management

I normally agree with Craigs decisions but today when he took Wafa off he basically handed the win to Spenny.
Wafa is our only aerial target its time our bigger in inches players took on more responsibility from set plays and showed some real desire to get on the end of the many corners and set plays we had.
Spenny did a proper job on us today.
Onwards up the pilgrims!

My problem isn't with him taking off Wafula because he did bring on Westcarr to take that role but why are we focusing on playing football that revolves around an aerial target? Especially when we only really have one outlet in the team with a decent amount of height on the pitch at a given time? If it doesn't go to the intended target you're just conceding possession. It's alright if he wins it and we have someone winning the second ball but today we didn't have that

Our forwards are getting the supply balls from the same two midfielders as last season .

So far Arnold , Marriot and Margetts have failed to achieve the level of Hemmings , Thompson and Rollins .

Really expected Margetts to tear sides up at this level. What are people's views?

For some reason he doesn't get a game so how can he.

I'm in the "jury's out" brigade. No doubting his pedigree, but fitness due to injury seems to be an issue. However, CD showed us last season that he wasn't going to carry passengers, and indeed this year with John McCombe. So, Margetts tenure could be short and not so sweet...

He's going to be on big ££££ so you might be right. Not point having expensive bench warmers

I think at the moment our forwards lack the energy of last season's but I also think that thanoj is nowhere near the player he was last season. Am sure that Craig will sort it out. Let's remember where we are this year compared to last. .

For some reason he doesn't get a game so how can he.

He spent 18 months without playing due to injury so is still building up his fitness. I thought he looked bright after coming on yesterday.

I also thought Margetts looked ok when he came on, not sure what Wesrcarr brings to the party though.

in fairness to Westcarr, he's had barely any time on the pitch to show us what he's capable of. In general, it would seem we have a wealth proven of talent up front, but nobody (so far) has really played to their capabilities, yet we are sitting in 4th. If you had been asked pre-season if you'd be happy with 4 wins from the first 6 games, I reckon we would all have taken that. i said earlier, they need to show some balls and get back to winning ways tomorrow. Not the easiest task, but it we are serious about playoff football, then these are the games to get results from.

I thought he looked a lot sharper when he came on yesterday and did enough to get a start on Monday .

From the off yesterday I was more than bemused that Walker was playing centrally and Wafula out wide, given that the latter seems the only player in our front line who can win headers. There seemed to be a plan to send it up to him in the air, but when he won it it either went out of play or into a fairly harmless place - because he was wide. Why isn't he played more centrally and Walker, who I thought is a winger, played wide? I thought that might be changed at half time, but it wasn't.

Answers on a postcard, please.......

Because Walker has played well as a centre forward, and Wafula well as a winger, this season...

And Walker is a better option when pressing from the front, Wafula stays on the wing then he is always available as the outlet

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Before yesterday, it had been working well.

If hindsight is no longer a wonderful thing, we could try foresight to predict possible tweaks in today's starting lineup.  :police:
Changes in defence, midfield, and up front maybe ???

Why didn't CE bring Andre Johnson on as a sub?   Is he going to be another Kabby - can score goals but warms the bench!!

I hope not, I think he's much better than that.

Clinical finishing is needed against BPA as there's not going to be many chances.  The midfield battle decides the game, so Thanoj is key IMO

The ability to score goals is key today, the defensive line up will also be interesting.
The options in that area are quite considerable now,
Gough, Middleton, Qualter, Harris, Davies, Keane, the lad from Harrogate, and Jackson who is suspended.
Don't think I have left anyone out.
Perhaps up front now we have too many attacking options, just hope that players don't start getting fed up at not getting game time.

Johnson up front for me, with Marriot supplying the through balls. Great pass from Spennymoor for their first goal Saturday  8)
