Title: Breaking news related to the new stadium.

Plans have been submitted for a new KFC and Costa drive thro next to the new stadium on the quadrant development.

Really need a new KFC as the one in town is shocking.
Could do with a Toby carvery.

Totally agree, had heard so little about the new stadium was getting worried.

I do have a friend due to move into one of the new builds on the Quadrant before the end of January though so at least something is happening.

Mitchells & Butlers seem to be reducing the number of Toby Carveries at present - fair few have been shut down and turned into their steakhouse brand. But yeah, the site does seem ripe for a Hungry House style pub. I guess if a brand thinks it'll work, they'll waste no time sticking one in there.

A good pub on site selling Batemans and other real ale would be ideal... Basically move the Eagle to the new ground and add Batemans on!

An Arbuckle's would be good, we don't have anything like that in this part of the county.

Nando and Starbucks are missing from Boston, already got KFC and Costa, but build another 10 of each if it helps us get the stadium built.  :police:

As a Southend fan in exile I do find similarities with our stadium plans and the shrimpers.
Both have acquired the land both are in need of a new ground both don't currently own their own stadium both have chairmen who are into property development.
Both grounds were meant to be built at once and now in phases.
30+ years on and the shrimpers are still waiting.
Let's hope it's not the same story at the Quadrant.
Caution maybe needed.

Let's hope what you are saying doesn't happen with us.
But I don't think the Malkinsons will let us have another 2 years let alone a 30years in their ground.
But let's not forget that 100 hundred homes have to be built before they can start work on the new ground.
That's a planning stipulation and they can't get around it.
They are obviously progressing with the fundraising for the stadium with these chain restaurants planning applications being submitted.
We just need to be patient and keep the faith in our chairman.

I really want the ground too YC and so hope we see some progress this coming year.
Some regular updates would be nice.
Anyway looking forward to going to Gainsborough and 3 more points.

KFC, i'll not be going there!
Good food inside the ground will suffice, you can't beat chips and curry. ;D

Longs they stick with dunmores and dont start doing it themselves with the plastic crap you see at some grounds now

It won't just be open on matchdays. I'd suggest it will do a good trade with all the thro' traffic via Boston.

I agree also, they don't serve Bovril at KFC, and they cook the smallest chicken ever.
I get my southern fried chicken from my local kebab shop, much bigger, cheaper and tastier.

Pret, Wagamumas, Nando's, Starbucks and many others could all do with an out of town presence in the area, as Boston town centre gradually changes into an eastern European enclave  :police:

I would say putting the piles in for the stands is a bit more than ground works, you seem very sceptical about it.
I don't know what it is about some people, I get the feeling that some fan's don't want the club to progress.
My father in law is the same, a Boston man who is supposed to be a fan but loves to gloat when we fail.
I think that some people like to be all doom and gloom and hate progress and thrive off other people failing.
Well this stadium is not going to be built in a years time probably two, but they have started it, and that's more than the last shower did Evans and Sotnick and co.
David Newton has piled load's of time, cash and effort into this club and new stadium project, we have a decent team and a cracking young ambitious manager, and what does DN get in return a load of negativity and scepticism.
Try a bit of positivity sometimes you might enjoy it.

Was not negativity at all it was a statement saying what was been done at this time.

For what its worth i was one thats been saying it will be done from day one.

Bad thing about a forum is people will read something a make something of it that couldnt be no further away from what it says if they wanted it to be.

That will be all.

Apologies and pleased to hear you are a positive fan .
Really nice to see some progress on the stadium, I think many of us were anxious over when they would start work on it.
Nice to see it's now moving forward .

Agree it will be very sad YC. I used to bike from Fishtoft, aged 7, to my Aunty Florence at no.13 York Street, dump bike in her yard and walk last 20 paces to the ground. Now aged 54, still going down that same street past Auntie Florrie's for every home game. End of an era for sure.

Don't be too dismissive of "groundworks" - anyone who takes a passing interest in these things knows that they are a substantial amount of work in of themselves. Sure, they're not much to look and and the least glamorous part of the build, but it does mean the stadium is officially underway.

As for the "French Connection" - presumably Tash is on about our dear old friend Rooster 8)

A great story and l bet there will be many more lovely memories to share.
Perhaps we should compile these stories into some kind of book, and have it on display at the new ground.
Perhaps it could be a pinned post on here , and then put forward to the chairman as an idea.
No matter what happens York Street will always be a massive part of this clubs history and ours.

Let's just hope that it can be built  in it's entirety and not phases.

We lived in York Street, straight over from the car park, when I first started going to watch the Pilgrims at the age of ten or so. It was always my aim to see if I could hear the final whistle and then belt over the road to get in the house before the result came in on the vidiprinter (older readers will remember the flashing black and white system in use on the BBC in the late 60s!).

Hope it would be built in its entirety, just wondered if that wasn't the case, and subject to us still being in this league, would a short term move to Tattershall Road be an option to save the club some cash for a season?

I guess another option would be to move into new ground with 2 or 3 stands whilst remainder is being finished.

I remember visiting Oxford's Kassam Stadium when were in League 2 which only had 3 stands with 3rd to be built at a later date. Not sure if they have their 4th stand yet though. Felt rather odd having 3 large stands and nothing behind one goal.

They got permission to build a temporary stand at that end a few years back but even that didn't get built. Since there's no practical need for a stand there I doubt it'll be built for many years yet. You're right - it does look odd, and they must surely regret it.

Just had a quick run out to the new stadium to have a look at what's going on, I was quite surprised to see a crowd of 5 or 6 there wearing an assortment of amber and black watching the work. I had a quick chat with them and for info:

The bloke driving the digger is useless
The supervisor should have gone to Specsavers, he might as well wear a blue shirt
The one at the top of the field on his own will never do any good without support from the others
We'll never do any good without a big bloke with a pickaxe in the middle of the park

It's starting to feel like home already  ;) ;) ;)
