Title: KARL HAWLEY...
Post by: Johnny Pilgrim on September 07, 2017, 09:24:09 PM
In my opinion, for what its worth, Hawley is a "class act"....he brings class and experience to our team...he may not be a "90 minute" player anymore but more than compensates for that during his limited time on the pitch....check out on You-Tube the part he played in the win over North Ferriby....his match winning pass to Rollins in the dying seconds of the game, when he was surrounded by defenders, was pure class...I hope he stays with us for this season at least,he couls be our "Teddy Sherringham" {!}...

Totally agree, one of the 'moaners' who sits behind me in the main stand was repeatedly calling him Grandad once he came off the bench. When Jay scored (couldn't resist) turned to him and said"Yes!! And Grandad made it"😉😉

Couldn't agree with you both anymore, that guy sitting behind you wants to go and stand next to Karl  with his shirt off.
Believe me he would be so embarrassed when Karl takes his off, because he has some physique for a Grandad

Agreed. He sees things others don't, and as long as there's movement around him, he can pick clever passes to set things going. Crazy suggestion perhaps, but what about sitting him deeper in central midfield, and pinging passes about? There would be downsides, i.e. he wouldn't go box to box for 90 minutes, and he might have to replace another of the Mansfield Clique, but why not give him a go there?

The pass for that Rollins winner was absolutely magnificent. The goalkeeper was slightly slow off his line but still - beautiful weight on it. Lovely goal.

I have always said with Hawley use him from the start and you will struggle but as a sub he can be the biggest weapon in the team with his ability to bring the ball down, Hold it and hold players of and as a great head for pin point passes, If he had the pace he be a clear starter.

Can anyone remember when Karl Hawley played against Boston and he had Michael Bridges, formerly Leeds United, up front with him, i cannott remeber the score but we got hammered, and these two I think scored two each, pure class if my memory is right, so Karl might not be all pace now but hes been there and done it so still good to have around the team/bench and management.

I also suggested trying him in mid-field on another thread not so long ago, pleased I'm not the only one with that thought. :)

I can remember him playing against us for Carlisle (I think) when he was leading scorer in League 2 and attracting interest from higher up. I seem to remember him being quite a handful back then.

Was that the Carlisle game? Lost 0-5 at home or something (too lazy to check's Ken site, but Bridges tore us a new one for Carlisle one game so guessing it's the same one?)

when I watched the highlights of the Ferriby match, I realised just how much vision and quality of pass he showed, and in particular, the players around him made runs into space knowing he would feed them.
