Title: Top 7 The New Target .
Post by: green hats mate on May 17, 2017, 04:19:01 PM
Beginning this coming season the 6th and 7th places qualify for the play-offs .   With the expansion of full-time clubs and rumours of another club getting millionaire backing play-offs still a big ask for us .

If we finish 6th or 7th it would be seen as progress from this season. However before the start of the season surely we should set the aim to finish in the top 5.

Just re-read to see that that finishing 7th could mean a play off spot, would be an interesting change.

So is'nt it time we saw few signings / or intention to sign ?
Even Gainsboro have made signings according to Picheroo ..

Given the managers hype and ambition for the club, there can be no excuses next season and we must be aiming for top 5 surely ? Forget all the talk about 'money clubs', money does not automatically buy success. Forget about where we sit on the map of the Country, the size of our club should sell itself to ambitious players regardless of travel. But, we must have some solid, proven, signings come the start of the season. A new team from scratch needs time to gel and get an understanding of each other, but we cannot afford a poor start again. Would be nice if we can get the majority of the team in place come the pre season games, with the odd addition added during those trials.

Top ten could be a tall order. I laughed at someone when he had us 15th on a prediction.... but actually, I couldn't find many teams who I'd back us to beat over a season

We will finish were we finish, no body can truly predict anything, I don't think it's right to put a team down when we don't even know or have seen the players play yet, we don't even have a full squad, and the signings have not been completed yet.
Let's stop jumping to conclusions and just get behind the AM the players and club, for god sake we are building a new ground this season, that's got to be a positive thing at least.

three signings from a poor gainsborough is not enough to make me part with season ticket money.

tbh signing a keeper is a good move....the last few dabbles and dibbles at the start season haven't been good

I buy a season ticket to support my club, not the players... at this level, you must know that most of the players signed this summer will not be here in a year's time.

the thing is, many  posters wanted to "Gr-exit", but after the initial "good idea" wore off, are some of these posters now disillusioned with the reality that decision left us with? Is the reality seemingly different to the Greener grass that was promised? Sort of a parallel situation isn't it? (For the record, I was a leave, not a remain)

No I am not Adam Murray's dad, god knows what that comment means anyway, I support the club, so you will not be parting with your money, your choice.
But I am not going to join the negative gang, we have signed two players from Gainsborough trinity not the whole team, and the ones we have signed have real potential.
You ,me and the rest of the fans don't know who is going to be signed.
But we were poor last season and Jay Rollins is going to be signed by a full-time club,so by your reckoning he must be rubbish too. Hmmmm!!!

I'm with P86 on this one, I buy a season ticket every year because I am a BUFC supporter. You will never get 100% agreement on a manager or players all you can do as a supporter is support. Some people are very critical of AM in a very subtle way I am sure they wish DG was still here but, he is not.

I'm not a fickle fan chubby , I've  supported the Pilgrims 70+years .    I shall be renewing my season ticket this week but fully understand why many like Howmanynames are thinking differently .      Why commit if you think the product may not be up to the standard of the past few seasons .    At present  looking at the poor signings he has made in his time here I see little prospect of AM  improving his win ratio so far achieved in his managerial career .       I can't see the usual uptake in season tickets until a few quality signings are made .

Agreed Tash, I support the club first, of course we all want success on the field & getting behind the players & manager when we're rebuilding is only going to help. I renewed my season ticket like others last week. The money in the kitty from season ticket sales may help with the budget for new players?

Yes there is plenty of subtle criticism of AM. Remember there was a "MURRAY OUT" thread running on here after about his first 7 games?? Many are still angry at the nature of DG"s departure & won't move on & fully support the new Manager.

As regards new signings: as others have said how can we compete with these full-time, moneybags outfits? I would point to Macclesfield in the league above to show we can very much do well. They had the Lowest budget in the conference last season. They flirted with the play off places all season, falling away in the last 6 games & ending 9th on 68pts. They got to the Trophy final & the 2nd round of fa cup.

Chorley are the example in our league, they were so close to promotion on an average budget.

Yes we are all waiting for marquee signings. But sometimes it's the ones who come in under the radar that are successful. Dayle Southwell unwanted at Grimsby, Ricky, Zak & Pidge likewise at previous clubs.

Correct. Apparently it's been agreed in principle, and just needs to pass the vote as a formality.

I guess his "new challenge" will be to score a lot more goals ,   19 goals in 140 games is not an acceptable return for a striker .

No panic yet chubby ,    but the new men coming in must have a good National North pedigree .

From the top of my head the 11 fit players we have got signed up to present have a aggregate total of NN 110  games between them .

The 6 defenders including goalie Willis have played about 75 games aggregate between them at this level ,  got to have more experience in defence .

Kaine Felix & Josh Robinson among a number of players told they will not feature for York next season. Thing is they all have 12mths left on contracts. Both good players we know; but they must be on £5-700 a week, wonder if season long loans we be the option if we were interested?

Have York still got them on there books champs?
We could do with them both, but with the amount of defenders already signed, I think Robinson would have to up his game to hold down a regular starting place.

Robinson - another average defender. Must be plenty out there AM could source without reverting to him. For me, he is a bit too hot headed - and doesn't always channel this in the right way. Felix was good when he was with us before and I would welcome him back. Having said that, surely we don't have to keep dipping back into our previous players. I would like to think AM and his team are well connected enough not to have to do this.

Pleased to see some experience coming in. For a while, we've been naive in games, although often that exuberance you get with youth, someone eager to show what they can do, is better than a 30-something on a last payday. Delicate balance.
I'm sure the lad from Barnsley wants to show that he can play at a higher level, likewise the older lad from Mansfield will hopefully  nurture some of our younger players (Vinno, Liam Adams etc) about in the middle of the park (something useful given he is now also a youth coach!)

This must be the first season for a while that our home shirt hasn't been changed in design/style. A good deal of fans buy the new style home shirt pre season & this must be worth a good few quid to the club each year.

It seems a strange one keeping the home shirt the same as last season; the club will loose money as fans already have the seat belt on shirt??

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it? You usually look at things with great positivity and optimism. Even your enthusiasm has waned recently, and a grey cloud hovers over your normally buoyant belief in all things Pilgrim. What a shame we find ourselves in the current predicament, where we seem to be teetering on the dark void that is the Unibond vortex, and a "tasty" Yuletide double header with The Gingerbreads. My big concern is the lack of the new stadium. Nothing built, so no future home. No doubt a huge saving for the Chestnuts if it's not built. Okay, so they say it will be, but will a reduction in available funds mean a reduction in size?, What level football would be played in it? The way things are going, who knows?

Yes TTT I am really struggling to keep my faith with the club, I don't know why DN has not yet given us an update on the stadium situation and the club in general, I have emailed him to express my concern, but he doesn't reply,he usually does.
Who would have thought a local trophy final and an festive derby match would be the highlight of this season.
We are in very worrying time's, perhaps DN feels the same way as us.
Do you think Green would ever come back, if approached and would it make a difference anyway.

That result tonight for the now not so looking Tinpots has possibly pushed us into a position of a must win game this weekend to save Murrays job ! Surely even Mr Newton can now see the only way is down if this form continues.  It baffles me as to why some long standing fans are buying Murrays excuses, yet dare I say it, had the previous manager or others before him said these same things over and over after the same shambolic run of bad form then one huge call of out would be heard ! I would like to know where they see we're improving ??  Results certainly do not show it. And after the result from tonight it makes our position look even more precarious.
