Title: Away at Lowestoft in the next round of the Cup
Post by: Ken Fox on September 14, 2009, 12:56:24 PM
Title says it all.

To be played on 26th September.

We have played them in the Cup once before - in 1990/1 and won 7-0. Chris Cook got 4 goals.

THANK GOD FOR THAT!

I'm in Germany that weekend so I was expecting Ossett (Ocid) away or some other doorstep match.

With my chauffeur in Germany this leaves me getting there on the train from Leeds.

It just about looked doable until I spotted the proposed strike action by National Express East Anglia on the 26th.  >:( >:( >:(

I remember that conversation... Funny old world isn't it, we get what we want and then maybe can't get there.

Some of these "regions" must be exceptionally large!

It's a shame we can't potentially do a swap with Bury Town. Potentially we've a situation on our hands where Boston fans have the incovenience of a long trip to the Suffolk coast whilst Bury fans will potentially be working out their route to Sleaford. And if Sleaford don't get through then Bury will facing a trip to Matlock instead. Does anyone really think that North Derbyshire and Suffolk are part of the same region?

Bourne Town travel to Worcester City ... another big region?

26 Trinity are away at Market Drayton Town .

Without being disrespectful, I haven't heard of Tividale, AFC Wulfrunians, Causeway United, Needham Market, Kirkley & Pakefield, Lingfield, Badshot Lea, Brading Town, Hallen, East Preston or VT.

Much more of a potential "banana skin" than Loughborough.Decent support, ambitious, and playing well.Several ex-Kings Lynn players there as well.

When i first saw the FA Cup draw today , i thought , should be a comfortable win but now i have looked at the Lowestoft Website im now thinking , banana skin??
Look to have a decent squad of players and another impressive stat is their home support which puts many teams in this league and above to shame. Their average home gate this season is around the 650 mark.
So, there will be a decent turn out there for the cup tie which will only spur the home team on. United will  have to be at their best to overcome this ambitious team.

Difficult tie that....Lowestoft a good, ambitious side and difficult to beat on their own ground.

Still....at least you're still in it!

I think that this regionally orientated round must have been organised by the FAs draw centre in DELHI. If we,sorry, when we get through to the next round perhaps we could draw somewhere in the country that can reward us with a weekend trip away. Perhaps an opportunity for a prediction league of who we could get next.

by looks of there forum their expecting a crowd of 1000ish

hopefully we will go in decent numbers as a new ground for people + a decent fanbase compared too most teams in our league ,  although a potential bannana skin as they will definatley be up for it

hopefully like saturday we will have enough too see them off

Hi. I am a Lowestoft fan and I have registered just for the short term. I would like to say that I am looking forward to seeing Boston United and all their fans at Crown Meadow next week. I hope it is a cracking game.
I did note your comments on here about regionalisation and 'long trip' to Suffolk and there seems to be an opinion that we are in the middle of nowhere! As it is only a 110 mile (ish) trip of about two hours I am wondering what the fuss is about? Just curious but what is the furthest you have to travel for a league game? ;)

Durham and Kendal are both about 170 miles from Boston.

The problem with Lowestoft is for Boston fans like me who don't live in Boston! I'm based in Leeds so I'm used to having lots of local away games to get to. Most of the teams in the Unibond Premier are within striking distance of Leeds. Getting to Lowestoft next week is a four and a half hour train trip that will cost me £72. Compared with last week's 45 minutes on the bus to Bradford costing £4. But as you say it should be a cracking game and it's the "Magic of the Cup" so it's worth the trek.

Welcome blue2. Any relation to red2; he flies a red arrow.
You will find on here that if the FA or the 4 letter word Evans is mentioned its an invitation for slagging off.
The FAs draw centre in Delhi thinks that England is a region. The FAs control, training and regulation of the 'Man In Fancy Dress' (referee to you) is crap.
The 4 letter word Evans, which doesn't rhyme with lots of other 4 letter words that mean the same thing, is an historical low point in the clubs history. He's at Crawley if your interested.
I have been to Lowestoft, only once though about 25 years ago when my friend the Queen opened something there. It's not a bad place and is only a little bit south of Gt Yarmouth so you could make a day of it. Drop the wife of in Norwich. Fish and chips in Yarmouth. Watch Boston beat Lowestoft. Pub on the way home and back by 10. Oops nearly forgot, pick the wife up in Norwich.
See you next week. ;D

Hi Ken and hi to you 'seeingbetter'. I can understand where you are coming from if you have to take the trip from Leeds Ken. I think I would have to consider such a trip carefully - and also the cost if it is £72.00!
I know I live here but I do think Lowestoft is a lovely, relatively peaceful town with a smart seafront and cracking beach (not as seedy as Gt. Yarmouth with its 'Kiss Me Quick' hats!). You could certainly make a day, if not a weekend of it!
It is great to draw a team like yourselves in the FA Cup and that is what makes it special even at the early stages. We do have a good team at this level and recognise it is a test of how far we have come next week. We were in financial trouble only a few years ago, but have turned it around and do have ambitions. After reaching the FA Vase final a couple of years ago, we have gone from strength to strength and with our new additions the squad is stronger now, and I feel our football is of higher quality. Really looking forward to it.

Lowestoft is a bit special ...doesn't Bernie Ecclestone come from there ..?
If he took over the football Club they d be pushing for the Premiership by now ..
Even  tho it's working port it's a far nicer place than Gt Yarmouth ..
As I have said , I'd be surprised if Boston get much out of the tie ..

Hi again. Football is a 'funny game' as we all know and we in Lowestoft know how tough this tie is likely to be. Yes, things do not seem to be going well for you but things can change in a very short space of time. You chaps seem unhappy after the Whitby result, but this is the FA Cup so league form is out of the window.
We are under no illusions that we will have to be at our best to get a result but it is a game we are all looking forward to.

Tip. Do what some other clubs have done who have no talent(i'm not saying Lowestoft hasn't got any talent) and put 12 men between the ball and the goal and you may get a replay. Of course I am including Fancy Dress Man in that number. Trouble for you then is that it's quite a journey in the evening but you'll be made to feel welcome in our bar providing THE steward doesn't notice you and you don't want a drink after hours.

I think it unlikely you will beat us 7-0 this time. I understand that back then we were doing ok and holding at 0-0 until our keeper got sent off. It was the best part of nearly twenty years ago! I suppose lightning could strike twice, but I am hoping for a good close cup tie with no such incidents.

Thanks for the tip. So a replay is the best we could hope for then, and only then if we play as you suggest?
If there is a replay then Lowestoft fans best not try to sneak in their Fruit Shoots!
