Title: Happy Birthday Lady Thatcher
Post by: Monty on October 13, 2012, 02:00:23 PM
A remarkable, wonderful woman who saved this nation from decline and put the Great back into Britain.

"Margaret Thatcher: Gentlemen, if we don't cut spending we will be bankrupt. Yes, the medicine is harsh, but the patient requires it in order to live. Should we withhold the medicine? No. We are not wrong. We did not seek election and win in order to manage the decline of a great nation." -

Well said Monty, if only she was in charge now this country wouldn't be in the mess it is now, none of this sucking up to the EU and the ridiculous left wing nonsense of Nick Clegg and his Leftie loonies, Happy birthday.

Don't be ridiculous. She created mainly bad things, including:

The doubling of Inflation

A disunited United Kingdom

Selective prosperity

Over-privatisation and overt corruption

And that's just for a start!

I'm sure the country has always had areas of "selective " prosperity.

That's why most English economists will be mighty happy when Scotland is independent and uses the Euro.  The £ will become one of the stronger currencies in the EU and the jocks' wish they could turn the clock back as the English socialists stop bailing out their weak economy in a feable attempt at "balancing" prosperity .

I'm a distant relative, but the family don't like to talk about it. So obsessed with killing the unions that she destroyed our industry. Baby and bathwater! I wonder why we have a housing problem? What happened to the council houses?

I'm also a distant relative of Gordon Bolland and I am proud of that.

And,

Monetarism! Disastrous policy of trying to control money supply

Destruction of local democracy.

Politicising the civil service.

Degradation of the social professions.

And that's just for another start!

I dunno, there might be some advantages as you say... But we'd also probably end up with a permanent Tory majority in Parliament. I think a decade of George Osborne would nicely stifle any short term boosts!

I think you can attribute most of todays problems to Thatcher.

I bet she dare not walk down a south yorkshire street.

All you with short memories, 16% motgage rate, selling off of all the council houses, privatising Gas, Phone, ect.

Running a near police state, just ask the miners, oh and the families of those poor Liverpool fans.

Did I mention the rioting in the streets.

No sorry, I would not wish her harm but nor would I wish her happy birthday. >:(

I think she left a golden legacy, for it only to be spent, wasted by the other lot. Same thing happens every time--labour spend money, waste it and then tories have to come in and always sort out the mess.

Re MT she was probably one of the best PM's we have had over the last 50 years, but I do not expect many of you share that view

Not one MP is to be trusted, all of them are in it for themselves. The only honest man to enter the H of P was Guy Fawlkes.
If you like satire perhaps you might like to read this little gem from Newsthump.  ;)

Rodents at the Houses of Parliament have called for major refurbishments to be carried out on the buildings after complaining of an infestation of MPs

MPs are widely reported to be running riot throughout the buildings which are also creaking under the strain of an out-of-date voting system.

A spokesmouse said that the Commons was a “unique and passionate” place to discuss politics. However it conceded that “the MPs are a problem”.

“The devastation that MPs cause cannot be underestimated.”

“They can vary in size, but are all capable of causing irreparable damage if left unchecked.”

“They are slippery characters who will think nothing of sacrificing one of their own in order to save themselves.”

Pest control experts

Some rodents have also expressed fears that the £3bn renovations, which could take five years to complete, will not completely eradicate the problem.

“It’s possible that the MPs could simply set up a nest elsewhere before moving back in once the renovations have been completed,” warned the spokesmouse.

Pest control experts have described MPs as devious and determined creatures who will cling on for as long as possible.

“There is no sure-fire way of getting rid of them,” one told us.

“You could access their communications, investigate their expenses or tax affairs, but they just seem immune.”

“They are greedy creatures, and traps may be the way forward.”

“Eric Pickles may be tempted by a piece of cheese placed on something spring-loaded, but you may have to use money and a hidden video camera for the others.

“To be honest though, if you get rid of one then another one will soon come along and take their place.”

The only posting I am 100% in agreement with is the last posting  by lonegunman , many staunch voters may not like it but the fact is MPs of all parties are taking the p*ss out of the electorate .    Many voters are now beginning to realise this as reflected in low poll turn-outs .
Maybe the greatest relevation on the thread is that a Woodhall resident votes Tory .!!!!!
Surely every one votes Tory in the stockbroker belt dt .!!!!
The one aspect of the Thatcher years that I relate to is the tranformation of the unions . Up until 1968 I worked as a tradesman for a local firm who paid the union rate of pay but demanded 10hrs production  in a 8hr day .  I then moved on to a contracting firm employing large numbers of tradesmen who adhered to the "closed shop ".
The transformation was unbelievable ,  10hrs pay for 4hrs work and the bosses scared of the workers .  Being on a government contract the bill would be footed by the taxpayer .
Thatcher rightly eliminated these restrictive practices took power from the unions and gave the bosses a fairer crack of the whip .
Where are we today ?
The labour market is flooded , many are unemployed , most workers localy are on minimum pay , some even under the minimum . We,ve gone the full circle , give the workers a bit of power back.

you can turn that around. labour spent so much because the tories invested very little into the schools and the nhs during their times. working in the building industry i have witnessed the condition of some of the schools that we have demolished and rebuilt. some very shocking conditions.

Another little gem from one of my fave websites  ;)

David Cameron has revealed a radical plan to help Britain’s ‘squeezed middle’ experience a heightened sense of privilege and achievement.

Instead of looking up to the richest, the PM wants more to look down on the poorest, and realise just how relatively privileged they are.

“When people read about my private education and all the advantages I’ve had, it’s easy to mistake that feeling of glowing admiration for one of bitter resentment”, explained Cameron.

“But if you look at it from my perspective, you’re just an endless sea of f***ing plebs.”

“We need to build a level playing field, but one with more levels at the bottom.”

Cameron on privilege.

Tory back benchers have given a warm welcome to the plan, which will highlight Britain’s poorest by displaying them in skips.

Equipped with hand-bells and filthy rags, the social lepers should draw big crowds, and make others realise they’ve never had it so good.

Cameron has pledged to keep the downtrodden firmly trampled, as a benchmark for relative prosperity.

“If you’re frustrated with your lot, listen out for a homeless who jingles as he sobs”, he suggested. “Remind yourself how well you’re doing by saying ‘there but for the grace of God stays he’.”

With a continuing recession, there’s no shortage of poor people for slightly less poor people to feel superior to.

The educationally sub-useful in particular are prime candidates for a ‘smugging’.

“Some would have it that it takes a big man to see the wider economic picture, but it doesn’t”, insisted Cameron.

“It takes a small man in a bin, wearing bells.”

Not so much a leader as a tyrant.  And let us never forget her war crime when she ordered the sinking of the Belgrano.

Fortunately her ministers knew what was best when they dumped her.

The most divisive PM the country has ever had.

And then her lovely children Mark (Arms dealer) and Carol (racist?)! Poor old Dennis!

Absolutely spot on. Can still see her turning that big wheel up in Scotland turning on the flow of oil, then wasting it all on the 3million  unemployed. The woman devestated British industry and sold of all our utillities, not to mention the highest intrest rates I ever saw.

I remember having to pay £730 per month for a £50,000 mortgage. Mortgage rates had gone up so much we nearly lost our home, and many poor folks did.

She had a government made up of yes men, and we are still paying for her far right policies.

Actually I think we are paying for the middle left policies of the Labour Party at the moment who funded global growth on tick for years....and years and years.

Politicising it to blame Labour is utterly pointless. In the 00s there was a bubble to be inflated which would provide short term growth and popularity for whoever was in power, so Labour did it - and HM's Opposition backed them all the way (link) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6975536.stm). We need to be pragmatic on the economy now, and one thing that is clear is that the coalition's cuts have strangled the life out of the recovery we were in. Ironic that George Osborne has been accepting credit for the UK keeping a triple-A credit rating - thanks to the second recession we're now borrowing more than we would've done under Labour's 2010 plans/forecasts - which he said would turn us into another Greece!  ;D
