Expectations during pre-season at Boston United have always been high in my opinion, even back to the dreary days of the mid nineties but we all have our own opinions and i respect that. Some of you will go for top 5 no doubt.
So, to start this thread im expecting
Top 10 finish.
Would be nice to be reach the play-offs but i very much doubt that, and im not being negative.
Hopefully attendances will hold up above 1200+ on average.
Another season of holding our own and reducing the debt.
A good cup or trophy run is probably priority
Whats yours ?

A pint of cider please. Oh yes and like you a top ten finish methinks

I expect nothing short of a top 5 place as a minimum requirement, anything less is nothing short of a complete failure for a club of our stature.
However, what I expect and what will happen I suspect will be two totally different things given the budget restrictions and my belief we have the wrong manager in charge of 1st team affairs.
I hope I'm wrong.
-
Cannot see a top 5 finish NF. Hope im proved wrong but although i agree with you that the stature of the club is big and expects promotion i still consider it a period of rebuilding on and off the pitch. Graham Hyde in my opinion could be Uniteds best signing of the summer !
-
I think we will come 7th and make the 4th Qualifying round of the FA Cup.
-
The play-offs really , to go with some good quality football and more consistency/organisation sure I have asked for too much!! LoL.
Make or Break season for JL , agree with the rebuilding (some will say that was last season) to a point but do not think DN with take another season like the one gone.
-
with the quad at the moment maybe by xmas 7th///IF we can hold on to JONES and NEWSHAM and can improve elsewhere then its a top 5 finish ///well worth a season ticket ;)
-
The stature of the club is irrelevant when we don't have any money, I think a midtable finish is likely. Would love for us to make the first round proper of the FA Cup
-
My expectations are that will will finish in the top ten, perhaps 7th or 8th. My aspirations however are that we will finish in the top five and gain promotion.
A good money earning cup run(s) would be much appreciated.
-
Expecting to finish somewhere between 7-10 but hoping to finish in the play - offs. Don't think we are too far away. Hopefully Ward, Stainsfield, Reed, Milnes etc will have learn't from last seasons experiences and will subsequently be better players this season. Haystead, Jellyman, Ross, Newsham and SWD are all proven quality players at this level and the signings of the likes of Jones, Miller and Willson look very promising.
-
Getting a better feeling by the day. We do need good cup runs, both for morale and the money, but also think the league prospects look better with each signing.
I was thinking of giving the bookies a miss but I am inclined to have an each-way flutter.

Top 3
Time to think positive all you moaners!
-
I expect an early exit from the FA Cup & Trophy, followed by a decent Cup run.
In the League I expect everything... and I expect nothing.
I'm in that pre-season corridor of uncertainty, and my mind is made up :dan

Play off contention, or crowds will drop off dramatically.
If the club don't aspire to make the play offs what is the point?
-
I think that the opening month will set the tone.
We are due a cup/trophy run but can't see it this year and will crash out probably in the second game of both competitions.
As for the league, the squad looks similar to last year with the same failings as the end of the season being lack of experienced centre half to help the young lads out to learn their trade.
The capture of the loanee gives more balance to the centre of the park than Milnes/Sleath/Ross axis which is a positive but if he goes after the three months then he needs to be replaced with the same type of player otherwise i fear for the middle of the park.
Upfront is quite positive with Jones looking a decent option along with Newsh/SWD/Fairclough.
I don't think that we are strong enough as a squad to challenge at the top end but should be safe. Midtable beckons again with hope of the play offs dead by the time March is out.
-
If we add a strong central defender before the season starts then we will finish fourth,if not i expect us to finish 6th or 7th
-
5th place finish.
Some very positive pre-season signings. The squad looks a lot better than this time last year.
-
Most people are listing hopes and expectations so on that basis:
Every season you have to hope for top spot, if not then what's the point. Expectations? Difficult one to judge but personally I think we'll be at the right end of the table. A lot will depend on how the young cb's progress and how well they can be shielded (mainly by Wilson I guess).
I am much more positive than this time last season, the average age of the squad is a lot lower thankfully and we look like we have goals in us, not just from strikers but other positions, something that was predictably missing last pre-season (Stones, Joachim and Suarez where never going to be prolific).
As I said a lot depends on whether Ward and Stainfield can progress from average Conf North cb's to good ones, if they can make that leap then we have a good chance of promotion, also Kern Miller is a bit of an unknown who could come in and do well. Last season we where 4 players short of a play-off team, in Haystead, Wilson and Jones I think we have 3 of those with the only ? over centre defence.
I was going to predict top 10 but have changed my mind and am going to predict a play-off spot minimum.

Im With Woad.
Watching last night i thought we looked not only a hungry team but a much cooler team with smarter movement and passing, Not only that but i also thought newsham has grown about a foot and the team is so much quicker and sharper in all departments.
-
Personally the longer pre season has gone and the more high calibre signings we seem to have made the higher my expectations are. For me we were five players away from a top side last year, along with the three WP has mentioned I feel Silk and Miller seem to have the potential to fill two other problem areas.
-
Delighted with the signing of Gary Silk and Matt Wilson. Great captures by Jason Lee which will add much needed experience to the squad.
So far im happy with the squad. Much better than last season. Feeling optimistic and firmly believe if we get off to a good start who knows how the season will roll out.

I'm more positive than a couple of days ago by virtue of Wilson stating that he would like to make the loan move permanent and the signing of Silk appears to be an excellent move. I still have the same reservations about centre half and agree with WP wholeheartedly here.
I think that we can't really tell from pre-season performances though - 92/93 anyone?
-
Expect and Hope to be in the hunt for the playoffs, but the league looks tough this year with there only really being 5 places up for grabs and a few money teams in there.
-
Regarding central defence, if Ward is fit for the opening day, him and Stainfield should start together. They need to build a partnership, which started last season. Miller will be OK for the bench, and Munn as back up.
