If fitness is something that is NOT lacking, then I'd have thought that suggests the fitness coach is doing a decent job.

It's also been pointed out on here before that the guy does not cost the club anything.

I'd argue we've been off the pace and lacking energy recently.

For gods sake Adam!he's a waste of space on the bus! How long does this bloke need to get the players fit? In all my years supporting united I've never seen a fitness coach before! If Lee or Canners can't see if a player is fit then they should go to Specsavers!Fitness coaches are for professional clubs not bloody northern premier standard! Adam are you related to LC,JL or fitness coach?
Question for Cookie in the years he played football did he have a fitness coach watching over him for 90 minutes?
Get in the real world Adam this is a little non league team not Manchester United!
Evening Tash!

Got to agree with KoN and Tash. Why do we need him. Surely he doesn,t follow the players around every minute of the week to see if they are doing their push ups. During training sessions we have two managers, perhaps one of them could become a fitness coach. And what good is it having him in the dug out at games, I haven't yet heared him shout at any player "hit the dirt and give me 10". Nothing personal mate but we haven't had a fitness coach for years so why do we need one now. Now, if we were to employ a 'how to shoot at a goal and be on target coach' I'd be up for that because thats what we really do need.

For a start I think this pretty much sums up how well informed your comments are. But anyway...

For gods sake Adam!he's a waste of space on the bus! How long does this bloke need to get the players fit? In all my years supporting united I've never seen a fitness coach before! Fitness is something that needs to be maintained/worked on over an entire season.

Football moves on and gets more professional at all levels. Whether we had one in the 70s is completely irrelevant: we didn't have a Craig Singleton up until a few years ago, and only a mentalist would fail to see the benefits he brings to the club.

Frankly, I don't think any of you have a clue what you're on about. How can having someone qualified in the field offering his services for free be a bad thing? Has anyone entertained the idea that he potentially knows more about this kind of thing than people on here? We've definitely taken more points than we've lost from late goals so far this season.

Why is he present on matchdays? I don't know, to lead warm ups, monitor players in matches, take the cool down/recovery sessions perhaps?

Adam can you name a fitness coach in our league or below?we are a non league club not Manchester City!if we lose 10 nil on Saturday I guess you will say we deserved a draw! Credit for sticking up for the managers but their must be a point when you will agree with majority about the Fitness Coach!

I'd guess they're fairly uncommon, but then according to many we are the Manchester City of non league.

Anyway, I personally don't object to us having a competitive advantage in this (or any other) are over the other clubs.

Adam and others no reason for long-winded replys ,   All is needed is to answer these two questions

1  does our team look fitter than the last two seasons ? (my answer  NO.)

2  do we appear to have more injuries this season ?  ( my answer  YES )

If my answers are correct a fitness coach is a waste of time.

Does anybody have David Newtons email address he could possibly explain why we need one?

It has been said before that the fitness coach is not a paid member of staff. Therefore the guy must have a certain level of expertise and experience which over the course of the season will be useful. It would be unfair to compare the fitness levels to last season with the amount of older players in the squad this year.

Good point Carl ,  too many old players.   Get rid of them and the fitness coach.

A large proportion of the squad under Scott and Hurst were at Loughborough Uni... They were probably training pretty much full time.

The fitness coach has only one day a week to work with the players , usually only Thursday at training for a couple of hours. Therefore as most of that time is hopefully used for working on areas that we have been failing in, or preparing for the Saturdays opponents the issue of fitness is very limited,It would seem to me that the fitness coach therefore gives the players instructions for them to improve their fitness in their own time, If they are too bone idle to work on this in their own time then it is not the fault of the coach and they should be kicked into touch.

Just wondered! He seems to walk around the pitch then sits on the bench.

I walk down one side of the pitch and get to sit down for the game but I have to pay to do that.

Oxo what does he do on match days?

He does alot more than some people realise e.g.  he helps the players with their nutrition, advises them on the right things to be eating/drinking before game and is also willing to spend his time talking to the players with any questions on their fitness on the bus to away games.

Also, on match days he prepares the players during the warm up and also makes sure the players get a proper warm down after the game - and works separately with those who haven't played to keep them in shape.

IMO his advice and input is alot better than nothing at all and considering he is doing it for FREE it is no bad thing. The players also seem to respect him so I see no issue whatsoever.

Not at all Mr Pedantic. You implied that it is true because a DIRECTOR said so, I replied using my knowledge of all the DIRECTORS I have known during my considerable time on this mortal coil. In my experience, they often speak with forked tongue.

Hope everybody follows my example!

i would hope the fitness coach gives the players a routine to follow all week and it is up to the managers and the coach to monitor them, according to rumour scot and hurst were strict at checking this level but I personally dont think they are as fit and that is why we have so many injuries. so once again the book stops at the managers(who are still learning and need all the help they can get).             p.s. does anybody know an experienced non league manager to help them out(free of charge)

A fitness coach can have all the best fitness programmes in the world in place -  but it only works of the players carry them out! As part times players much of the onus will be on them, fitness and dietary wise.

And getting to bed before midnight , especially when a match follows the next day.  So if it's true that one of the Players was in Nottingham City Centre at 2am this morning then the Fitness Coach isnt working.
