Thanks to all the players, managers for a fantastic season,we will just have to win the league next year.
Still cannot believe that game today the passion and fighting spirit was great to see,but the refs are not up to the job
the number of penalty shouts both on Tuesday and Today are unbelieveable that we did not get at least one
-
Following Craig on live text - the words that have haunted us all week "Peyton to take."
So very close, it's heart-rending.
Time to dust ourselves off. There's a new season round the corner.
If you can meet with....
-
Great game, gutted we lost on penalties, but thought before the end that the ref actually had a pretty good game.
You can always argue about penalties which could, should, might have been given, but they had a couple of shouts too.
For the second season running there has been nothing between these two teams, but unfortunately this time we lost out.
-
what a game, but im absouletly gutted! just such a shame we cant take penos!
-
Well done to all at the club! Atleast we only lost a game not our league status!!!!!!
-
Great performance from the lads kept fighting all game really gutted
-
Once again the lads showed their fighting spirit,as they have done all season and last. They never know when they are beaten.I have a feeling we will be looking at a nearly new team next season. To those that leave us,thanks for all your hard work,it's been a pleasure watching you over the last two seasons.
Gutted for the lads.
-
Very good game missed chances both sides , Still think refs are told to give us nothing, how not one of
the three clear penalties was not given is behond me , and why does a team as good as guiseley have to fall
over every time we got near them ??
That said what a season enjoyed it till the end, if back in august we had the chance to be in the top ten we would of taken it so well done to all the players staff and our chairman for a cracking season .
Lets hope Telford win next week as a team that can only bring just over 100 supporters to a semi final dont deserve to go up ;D
Bring on next season ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Two good teams going for it, unfortunately it wasn't our day.
Disappointing to see so many fans leave without giving the lads recognition for a cracking season.
-
Personally I think that we edged it over the two matches but well done to Guiseley. Not impressed with their gamesmanship though; falling all over the place and then a couple of attempted punches (only hitting thin air) after the Dudfield "penalty" incident. Church was outstanding today and will surely go on to bigger things. The whole team gave 110% and it will be a shame if the side breaks up in the summer. For me personally despite seeing Boston play at a higher level this team is my favourite set of players for their honesty, determination and the way they play the game.
-
Would have to agree with Boo the lads deserved a cracking send off for all their hard work and never say die attitude. To walk out without acknowledging their effort today was disrespectful. For those who leave thank you, for those who stay onwards and upwards. This has been a great season you deserve all the plaudits you get.
-
To be fair all those around me stood up and applauded the team but they were all in a huddle having a chat.It was quite a while and it came to a point where even i slowed down and edged to the way out....they did turn to townend and applaued the team did but i dont think they were too keen to go the stand end where Guiseley where celebrating.Any how its been a long emotional day and babysitters, wives, boyfriends, tea being ready etc where appearing in front peoples minds. The crowd were fantastic and if Boston had done a lap of honour it would have been well received....just a devasting end to the game and i think we were all shocked and bewildered that how well we played...we got zilch!!!
-
Obviously we're all absolutely gutted to bow out on penalties but I'm so very proud in the manner in which we lost. The players gave their all and did themselves proud and went down fighting. It'll be day I remember for many years to come. It was an excellent advert for non league football and the standard of football was brilliant I thought. The game and the atmosphere was incredible. Credit to both teams for really going for it and not showing too many nerves. It's a cruel way to end our promotion chase and I really thought we deserved a place in the final. But it's not to be and we pick ourselves up and reflect on amazing season we've had and remember how blessed we are to have seen so many fantastic games. I'm sure it was beyond most peoples expectations to reach the play offs in our first season back, it's a truely remarkable achievement for the players and club.
Thanks to all the players, the managers, the chairman and board members, I only wished you could of been rightly rewarded with another promotion. I can't describe how immensly proud I am today to be a pilgrim. Here's to another great season.
We're the pride of Lincolnshire !
-
Yeah a great game and a terrific advert for this level of football. Absolutely nothing in it over the 2 games or extra time, Guiseley just a bit better at pens than us. Echo the sentiments on here a big thank-you to all the players who gave their all and couldn't have done any more, once DD got the third equaliser camped in their half and another 5 minutes and We'd have beaten them.
Won't say anything about the ref(s) as it sounds like sour grapes but shall we say some very questionable decision nearly all going Guiseley's way.
Seems really weird that we have won on the day, level on aggregate and are still out. Seems surreal that we are out and don't think it's sunk in yet. Really gutted but as Craig said on the radio We're probably not quite ready for the jump yet but that doesn't make it any easier to take.
-
Agreed Patrick so many highlights:
Winning NINE NIL
The result and performance against Alfreton
TEN clean sheets in a row
BAZZA returning
CHURCH'S free kick against Vauxhall
Many, many more as well as those listed above well done BUFC
-
Agree with everything on this post. Proud but gutted sums it up.
One of the best games I've seen at York Street. Magnificent performance to come back again and again when we seemed to be beaten. Great effort from both teams with so many players out on their feet even before extra time.
I think we all knew we'd lose if it went to pens!
Well played lads and thanks for another memorable season, despite the disappointment in the end.
Congratulations to Guiseley. Respect to their manager and bench - at the end of ET Steve Kittrick admitted that it was a fair result and he and his sidekick (who behaved like an idiot earlier) shook hands with us. Kittrick made a point of shaking hands with one of our fans who he had a 'disagreement' with earlier - nice gesture. Bear in mind this was all before the penalties. They didn't have to do that and I respect them for it.
-
back home now, after a drive which had a sense of disapointment, pride and success for the match that i had just witnessed. what an atmosphere, what a game, and what a season. shame it wasn't our day. good luck to everyone at the club and especially for those that will move on in the summer. you have all done us proud.
-

I can add a few more:
The backs to the wall win away at Alfreton
The demolition of Harrogate away
The 3 goals in the last 10 minutes away at Workington to win 5-3 - made the mommoth journey so worth it
The shirts off away at Stalybridge despite it being fooking freezing and us losing
That's off the top of my head
-
Fantastic game, really gutted not to go through, but the lasting impression of today will be one of pride in the team who kept on battling to keep us in it until the last.
It was fantastic after each goal we concenced that all those around me were clapping and encouraging and I didn't hear a word of incrimination (against the team, can't say the same for the ref!). That was brilliant and shows in actions, sentiments expressed by the words of everyone else already on this forum, to say we've enjoyed this season, been so proud of what we've achieved and look forward to the next season.
Good luck to Guiseley in the final.
-
what a great game today with the only downside being the loss on penalties.
thought we were superb with a great never say die attitude and really didnt deserve to lose the tie.
looking ahead i would think its inevitable that we will lose at least half this team but if we can get good replacements there is no need to think we cannot go one better next season.
although the whole team was great today i thought sleaths contribution was absolutely fantastic and after that great effort i was really gutted when their last penalty was totally scuffed past bazza and you could see their players relief and embarrasment when the ball hit the net.
that said well done guiseley and thanks to all the players and fans who made it a memorable match and occasion to remember.
-
It was one of the best games ive seen in ages, and despite the result, im not particularly down, I'm just immensely proud of everbody at BUFC, the players, fans and most importantly David and Neil.
All 2,500 fans were united behind the team and it really showed, the players fighting back twice from losing positions, as someone else mentioned they are my favourite bunch of players for ages thanks to their passion and commitment, especially Church and Pearson.
On reflection only Sleath's penalty was the only poor one, Jelleyman's was a magnificent save and Boyes was off the inside of the post, so unlucky.
Ref was shite, turned down two clear cut penalties for us. I could write an essay on the game it was that eventful, I was just pleased I made the 6hr round trip from London.
Guiseley, despite being a bit petulant are a really good footballing side, and from what I've seen of Telford I would fancy them to go up. A bit dissapointing that they could only muster 100 fans, makes you wonder if they really want BSP football in Guiseley.
Anyway I was set next to a fan who told me it was his first Boston match in 20 years, and Ithink thats testament to the work DN and NK have done in restoring Boston's reputation.
Proud to be a BUFC fan
-
i have been proud of the lads for the last couple of seasons but never more so than i was today the fight and the spirit was unbelievable. well done to everyone on and off the pitch your a credit to boston. boston till i die thats for sure. ;D
-
Thanks to David and Neil
Thanks to all the others at York Street
Thanks to Jason and Lee
Thanks to the rest of the lads for all their efforts, if we don't meet again all the best for the future
Thanks to Guseley for coming and making a game of it
Thanks to the fan for a tremendous atmosphere
Proud to be a Bostonian

Well i didn't feel like doing much last night so ...
I can only say how proud i am of those lads, they never give up nor know when they are beaten, its such a shame a lot wll probarly move onto to other clubs, but all i could say is thankyou for all the effort they have put it over the these 2 years, which have given us a club to be proud of again.
If Guisiely wasn't such a similar team to in the sense of 'never give up' we'd have won and been looking forward to going to Telford next Sunday, but as it turned out to be we were so evenly matched it took penalties to seperate us, and unfortunetly Lady Luck wasn't shining on us.
But there has been so many memroable moments this season and over these 2 years with this sqaud their has been alot more ups then downs and that is down to their never say never attitude so...
This just leaves me to say a big THANKYOU to ...
The sqaud - For never giving up and giving us so many moments of joy and pride
DN/NK - For continually keeping this club afloat
Scott & Hurst - As much i don't like the was they left, no-one can deny they put the wheels in motion, and for that i'll always respect what they did for this club
And finally... Canners and Jason Lee - It took real bottle to take this job on when S/H left, at that point it could have gone pear shaped for us and we could have even fallen out of the Play-Off spots without a fight, but they steadied the ship and didn't mess around too much with the system or anything which was obviously met with some good peformances from the team, I'm also going to add that Canners went from player and no-doubt good friends with alot from this team to joint gaffer making decisions on who will start and who won't etc, i myself wouldn't want to have done that but he had the courage to do it.
So after writing an eassay and half, i won't lie their is sill that 'what could have been feeling' inside of me but the main feeling is pride, and i hope every other BUFC fan feels that today, them lads gave us EVERYTHING they had, it wasn't too long ago we were fighting for our lives in the UniBond and 2 years later within a penatly shoot-out and 90mins of BSP, they deserve everything that comes their way.
-
Heard after the game the ref was being assessed to see if he was suitable for the Football League - on that showing, NO. He let too many things go (for both sides) and missed penalties (for both sides).

None of the away fans??
Unfortunately not. There was a chap sitting next to me that kept leaning forward and blocking my view of the away section!
I dare say the proper photographers will have got a few superb shots though. Lookout for posts on here by Shippy92 in the next couple of days.

Cheers mate will do.
Hope they missed where i had my top off. :bunny

I'm amazed you managed to get so many shots of James Walshaw not rolling about on the ground.
-
Ha ha that ref would have never given a pen if we had played 4 20 years
-
If anyones interested, the Yorkshire evening post has a fairly balanced article about the game..
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/non-league-football/boston_united_v_guiseley_afc_lions_reach_blue_square_bet_north_play_off_final_1_3361983
I got the paper version, our game got more column inches than both Bradford and Huddersfield's matches!
Thanks to Ken for finding the link, saved me figuring out how to scan and post the newspaper article.

I think not getting promotion this season is a blessing in disguise. It will give the club another year to establish an even firmer financial foundation (FFF). A higher league would require more money to operate and a lot of clubs get into problems because they try and fight above their weight. We will get there but when the time is right. For now I will settle to be a big fish in a little pond rather than a small fish in a big pond. Be ambitious, yes, but let it be tempered with patience my friends.
Felt a bit sad though on Sunday. Can always rely on a crowd of about 1300 but what happens to the 1200 or so others who apparently only turn up for the big event. Were they there because it was a big event, or because it was a Sunday. If we could average 2000 then being a big fish in a big pond could be a reality sooner rather than later.

Just remembered that we seem to beat you lot to stuff quite a lot..
Winning the league last season, and now winning the chance to play for a place in CONF N

It's taken you four days to remember that? What are you, a goldfish?
Well done on winning a penalty shoot-out and the Glue League last year. Just one question: do you think your success is sustainable?
I'm thinking of that other Leeds team that went into the Conference with a couple of hundred hardy fans and wondering are you just the next version of them?

Over the course of the season (40 GAMES ) we were the better side league tables don't lie. If you want to gloat go and do it on your own site.
-
Awwwwwwww come on guys, Yeads has been on here before and has been a model of restraint and has been balanced and sensible when putting points across.
We can take a bit of banter can't we?
The facts are-
1) Last year they won the league, and so were the better team. As Tash says, the league table doesn't lie.
2) Last year Boston did "the double" over them, a bit like we did to Alfreton this season. But they obviously handled other teams better than we did, as they finished top.
3) This season we were the better team in the regular season, as we finished higher.
4) In the play-offs, there was nothing between the teams, save they are better at penalties than us.
I say good luck to you and yours Yeads, hope you win the final. If not we'll see you next year. As far as I am concerned you are welcome on here anytime.
-
Seeingbetter - I agree that this might have been one step too far too soon financially for us, so the disappointment of Sunday is tempered by the thought that we won't be overstretching ourselves.
Would be nice to think we could get the stadium issue resolved before going up - has anyone heard anything on this lately?
-
Don't mind a bit of banter infact it can be quite enjoyable. But UNPROVOKED gloating I do not like.
-
Won't gloat when they get stuffed in the final :D

COME ON AFC TELFORD! :)
-
Telford out of this league gives us a better chance of winning the league next year.
