If the rumours(and the Echo article)are true and S&H are to join Grimsby, then i wish them well and thank them for what they have achieved here.I will say though, the timing is awful. An official statement from the Club would be nice.

Absolutely gutted.

All best Rob and Paul, you have brought us some great memories, it is a pity that you will not be here to get us back to the promised land of BSP, but all the best with the fishy people.

If this is true then Rob and Paul would probably have known about it when asked by Scott on Saturday. The timing is crap and will leave us right in it.

I wish them all the luck in the world, and thank them for all that they have done.
But the timeing is terrible and the complete denial on Saturdays interview now feels that they knew all along. I know prob for legal reasons they couldn't say anything but why completly deny? This will have a huge impact on the club and saturdays game now  :( I'm feeling totally gutted and sad  :( :( :( :(

If they do go:-

What a dreadful time (for Boston United) to be leaving the Club - with a good chance of getting promotion into the same league as Grimsby.
Why leave a club which has a chance of another promotion into the same league as the "poachers" (and another plus-point for their CVs) - or don't Rob and Paul think Boston United will get promotion?

Is there no loyalty these days?

Anybody know how well contracted our players are?

Are we going to get money for some that might get poached, Church, Pearson, etc. or are they free to leave at the end of the season/now?
Title: Re: Echo this morning BREAKING NEWS
Post by: Pilgrim86 on March 22, 2011, 09:26:31 AM
Grimsby cannot sign them permanently now, due to the transfer window. They can, however, poach them on emergency loans.

Do the contracts extend past the end of the season or could they get them on a free then?

Unless someone has signed a contact and no-one told us,i think most are out of contract at the end of the season.I fully expect Shaun Pearson to be a Grimsby player if not now, then during the summer.

just posted something similar on another thread, why leave this near the end of the season and with promotion still within reach,it doesn't make sense if they have gone to GT but if it is to Rotherham then it is a little easier to understand..

Good luck to the pair of em but once again I think that our beloved club has been used as a stepping stone. Surely GTFC could have waited till the end of the season (it's not as if they are going anywhere) instead of plunging us into the mire. It is all very well saying look what they have done for us but we have done a bloody site more for them in a short space of time methinks. What we need now is the appointment of a permanent manager so he/they can hit the ground running in the close season.

I am not alone in NOT wishing them well.

To leave with a handful of games remaining which could result in promotion into the same league as Grimsby is most unwelcome.

Rob Scott  is a poor loser and doesn't like criticism - so he is in for a rude awakening when he gets to Blundell Park.

If we manage to get promotion this season, I doubt he will get a good reception when Grimsby come to York Street.

While I'm absolutely gutted our managers have left, I can't help but feel disappointed in their decision as we're so close to securing a possible play off place and more importantly Grimsby aren't going anywhere this season. Why couldn't they have left after our season ended, surely it won't make that much difference to Grimsby if they start now or next season. No doubt the pair of them are up and coming managers and they were always likely to go chasing bigger things, but to leave us at such a vital part in the season, after playing down the Grimsby job is a massive kick in the nuts.

They both however helped to get our club back on track and brought many happy times to us fans and I thank them both for what they achieved in such a short space of time. Obviously they're both talented managers and we we're fortunate enough to experience their skills for a couple of seasons, I only wish they'd stayed a little longer. I can see why Grimsby is so tempting, a chance to manage a football league club in a season or two is hard to turn down. Just bad timing which will get some of our fans backs up. I hope  most of our fans will congratulate and thank them for the superb efforts all the same.

All is not lost though, we're still in the play off place and can possibly play Grimsby next season.

Best of luck Paul and Rob. See you you in the conference ;)

I wouldn't wish this on any Club (well maybe just a few) but you have to look at the positives.
Pride Of Lincolnshire sums it up well.
These boys came in when you were falling to obscurity.
They have done a great job in the short time they have been with you and look at it from their point.
If they don't take the job they may not get another chance.
If they do and do well they may go on to bigger things.
They have left you in a great position for promotion, with a sound footing financially, thanks mainly to your chairman (quite rightly imo) keeping an eye on it all.
You are ready for the move up to the next level.
We may see you next season if we're not in League 2, but if we are you should give them boys a great welcome for what they have achieved.
Having said that I would be totally peeved if we lost our manager when things were looking that good!!!!
Best of luck for the rest of the season.
Football... it's a funny old game......... and really hurts you when you think it's going well.............

What I can't understand is that they have jobs outside football. Most (unlike football) require at least a months notice.

Would have hoped they could have seen the last 7 games out before going.
Also, worried we can now keep our best players to see the season out.

Well....

Balls to the lovey dovey shite thats on here. This pair of feckless wonderboys have groomed us good n propper. Lots of nice massages and then when we least expect it, smear some grease on and  do us up the botty.

Yeah yeah, they rescued us they did this they did tha, whatever...

They have jumped ship, left us rite in it, and no doubt their next trick will be to sign anyone in the team that can kick a ball, and leave us with a bunch of three legged donkeys trying to play out to their retirmnent.

Any good that they may have done has just been wiped out.

As for grimsby, well you cant blame them for offering what must be stupid money to get S&H, you can blame S&H for taking it.

I hope that their sucess comes to a dramatic halt and we can wave to grimsby as they drop out of the premier on their way to the unibond.

What a pair of backstabbers.

Goodbye n Good riddance.

Backstabbers, and good riddance? Are you for real? While it's hard to take, they deserve a chance at a higher level, and back in full time football. Grimsby are a bigger team than us no doubt, and I trust DN and NK to appoint another succesful manager(s), to take us to the next level. They've left us in a good situation, although the timing I agree isn't great, we're still in the play offs, and have a decent chance of promtion to the BSP.

I wish Rob Scott and Paul Hurst the best at Grimsby, and hope they are as much a success at BP, then what they achieved at YS.

Come on down back to earth dazziebabie .
Would you turn down a higher profile job with lots more money and prospects ?
Is the club in a better position on and off the field than it was before these chaps came ?
Name the bunch of tired donkeys they,ve left us with ?
Name a manager in recent times who has left the club in such a stable state finance and playingwise.
 Thanks and good luck S & H

Hurst works for Rotherham in their Community side, and Scott works in sales. It'll be interesting to see if they do go full time with Grimsby in the short term.

Just heard the news.

Absolute gutted but angry at the same time. There really is no loyalty in football. I know Rob and Paul have done a fantastic job at the club, and I for one thank for that because without them, we'd still be languishing in the Unibond imo. However, they're leaving with unfinished business, and that irks me so much.

They were both on the verge of possibly taking us into the Conference, a fantastic achievement no doubt. So why leave now? What kind of effect is this going to have on the club? If they care about BUFC so much, they'd have signed a pre-contract with their next club or something, and stayed on until the end of the season.

I really fear for us now, this is going to knock morale pretty badly, and as they've resigned we haven't recieved any compensation that we could use to possibly get someone else in.

Oh, and I hope they go to Rotherham if anywhere. Grimsby Town, at this stage, is definitely not a step up in my opinion.

If  we appoint a new manager within the next few days then Mr Scotts integrity will be in tact because that will probably mean that D&N knew all about the resignation, if not then his integrity must be questioned. I can't remember Paul ever being questioned on the matter (I might be wrong) maybe he told Scott not to broach the subject so he didn't have to compromise himself. I don't blame anyone for wanting to better themselves but a bit of honesty woudln't go amiss. Can't imagine Grimsby would have had a secrecy clause for gods sake we aren't talking about the Barclays Premier league here.

BBC Lincolnshire Sport According to chairman David Newton the Pilgrims were prepared to let them go 'on our terms' - but when those terms were rejected Boston turned down Grimsby's approach so they resigned.

See. My point in case. They knew they were going, they could have been honest.

Yes we are in a better position than we were, but now were in a shitty poition. no manager right when we need one. panic buying could land us with a nutter (much like myself) and before we know it, everything the lads have worked for will be lost mid table. Then wave bye bye as they all scuttle to Grimsby - and lets face it its not like Shite & Head havnt got history of dragging along their mates with them, they did it hear.

I have sung their praises like everyone else on here, but they have stitched us up propper now, and their was no need. Yeah Grimsby is offering top dollar and they have gone like we all would. But come end of season they would have been worth even more and could have gone after leaving Boston well up.

They have made a selfish selfcentred decision to run for the money. Lets hope their kneecaps fall off in the near future.

As for the planet im on, same one as the rest of you, im just looking through different spectacles.

Grrrr

A lot of rubbish being written here. Grimsby not a step up? Get real! They're a division above and in terms of history, fan base, potential etc they are leagues ahead.

Honesty? Integrity? Scott and Hurst could hardly tell the world on Saturday if nothing had been agreed between the clubs at that stage, which it obviously hadn't and never was or else they wouldn't have resigned.

Yes, the timing is terrible for us but they could hardly turn it down could they? The opportunity wouldn't have waited until the summer.

The best we can do now is get behind the new man/men and hope they can keep us in the play-offs. Anything can happen once we get there....

It seems many on here fear this will see the end of our our promotion bid with the affect on the players but I would say the opposite could happen, dont be too sure that all the players will miss them and I can see them comming together to prove a big point.

I think it would have, the job was theirs if they wanted it, they could have easily signed pre-contract agreements or whatever and made it public knowledge that they were off. I think everyone at BUFC would have accepted this and wished them well. Grimsby arent going anywhere this season, now they're just going to oversee a load of pointless games when they could have been gaining promotion with us.

A lot of talk about Grimsby Town BUT has it been confirmed thats where they are going.
So DN said on the radio he would allow Grimsby to speak to H a S but on Boston Uniteds terms. S and H apparently rejected those terms and resigned so that talks could proceed. I assume the terms would be there to protect the immediate interests of the club. I don't think DN would stand in the way of anyone who wants to progress their careers. So I can only assume that S and H decided '*uck' the club we want out.
Like most on here I am miffed at the timing but wish them well.

Gutted absolutely Gutted to lose Scott and Hurst to where-ever they are going, Grimsby or Rotherham, I can understand if it is Rotherham, a league 2 club, But to Grimsby!!!!,  they are midway in the BSP, They are going nowhere this season, As other posts have said, they could have agreed a pre-season agreement with Grimsby, if that is their destination, If it is Rotherham they have to take the job now, Rotherham need a new manager asap,   I agree with" oxo",  all is not lost, this could motivate the team in the remaining matches,  Managers and players come and go, It is the fans who stay loyal to the end.

How many of our players would cut it in BSP (at a team with promotion ambitions)?
Pearson (although I'd expect him to go to L1 or L2), SWD, maybe Church, maybe Boyes.

We don't know how well the players get on with S&H (especially S?) - some players (SWD, Newsham, Sleath, Yates, Davidson) have seemed out of favour at times this season, so they might see this as a chance for more first team football?

To be honest I'm not surprised one bit.  I had a conversation with one of my mates about two months ago and said that I didnt expect them to be here next season, HOWEVER what I didnt expect was for them to leave us at such a critical point in the season.

The only way to look at it is, if it hadnt been Grimsby today it would have been Rotheram tomorrow.

I think that they did an excellent job for us and thank them for it, but in all honesty I think that they havent always been and never will be everyones cup of tea.  I just hope that moving forward the club appoint, at the very least, an interim manager that has the experience to get us over the line and into the play offs.

Posts: 21  It's a little early for April fools isn't it? This has to be a joke. Why would a club like ours (with ambitions to return to league football), appoint two mickey mouse managers over the likes of Dave Penny and other potential targets ( Jim Gannon, Ronnie Moore ).
If mickey and mouse are appointed, I believe this is the end of GTFC.
Mr Fenty and the board must be snorting illegal substances, and too much of them. My advice to them is to get into rehab, sort themselves out, then when they are well, return to GTFC, and sort it out.

Bad news in general and timing very unhelpful.

Respect for the job the managers have done - galvanised the team and some impressive results.

Lack of respect for the timing of their decision, seems unnecessary with only a few games left until the end of the season, thought they would like to finish the job they started. Serious lack of loyalty to the club and more importantly to the owners.

Hope they can cope with the new moaners they will encounter at Grimsby. Of course takes a moaner to know one, some do it from the stands others from the touchline....... it really is no different.

Grimsby is a step up (in theory) so have no problem with their career planning, but their timing shows a lack of respect to all at BUFC.

Having listened to Scotty Daltons post match interview with Rob Scott again,  when Rob was asked about the Grimsby job, he denied having spoken to Grimsby (perhaps disappointed that Grimsby hadn't been in contact with Boston United) but then proceeded to "advertise how good both he and Paul Hurst are."  In other words - he was putting the pair "up for sale".

Then the approach was made by Grimsby the following day.

Although speculation on my part - I have no doubt that Scott wanted out after the match on Saturday and needed to advertise his skills.
