Watched England's final presentation today  8)
Becks and Co did a great job, so we might still have a slim chance against the favourites... what do you reckon?

Fifa the most corrupt sporting organisation has picked one of the most corrupt countries, Russia. Should make a good pairing!

The World cup goes to.................A country that as to build 14 new grounds, A country that as been pulled up for poor transit, A country that as been in the news for allo the wrong reasons, A country that needs billions spent on hotels etc. A country that just yesterday as been asked and told to account for its trafficing, drugs and ripe mafia activity.

Its not Russia fualt they got the most votes..... Its every other country that as forgot Football is not about politics.

Wrong strategy sending Becks & Co .  Should have had W H Smith to sponsor the bid and sent Steve Evans out with Crawleys money , think  FIFA would have liked that.

I heard that our next chance would be 2030. Does anyone know if thats right, or can we have a go at 2026?
Theres a lot of stuff about China getting it in 2026, maybe they've splashed the cash and done the deal already.

Based on the new rotation system it will be a long time before it comes back to Europe.

That said do you honestly thing there will be the will and the resources to back a bid given how we went in this process?  Not knocking the bid at all, the FIFA process is clearly bent.  Qatar = High Risk, by FIFA's own standards!!!

Let's not be too upset! After watching the Panorama programme I think the country would be better off without the FIFA crooks!Telling our government how to run the taxes and visa policies.Wonder if any of the locals will return home to build the stadiums?

Sad but true. Follow the money from beginning to end .....

IOC & FIFA, corrupt and unaccountable. Let's start this one with a Mr Mohammed who was going to stand as Asian rep against Sepp Blatter in the forthcoming election, then suddenly he drops out and next thing Qatar wins the 2022 World Cup, well fancy that.

Where there are stadiums to be made there is money to be made ..... follow the money.

Living close to Qatar I can foresee many problems to be overcome, 45'C heat, few hotels, fewer stadiums and a very conservative people who have no idea what thousands of alcohol drinking football fans quite means, oh dear.

Totally agree mate. They don't look at practicalities, just money money money. Lot's of players will have serious problems playing in that heat, totally rediculous.
I just hope the Panorama program was just a taster. If that was all they had to offer total waste of time.

It's not the quality of the stadia that counts, it's the size of your brown envelope.
As FIFA have demonstated by giving the World Cup to Russia and especially Qatar the opportunity for top players to perform in suitable conditions and the interests of the fans who shell out thousands to watch their country are way down their list of priorities.

just imagine 30000 english football fans with thier tattood bare chests on show walking the streets of muslim qatar looking for the non-existant alcohol establishments. they must remember to leave the wifes at home though as females are banned from attending football matches with men.
do they do st georges styled burkas. can't see it. we probably won't qualify anyway.

Yeah, let's pull out of all competitions abroad, Europe etc, and then find out who needs who!! Think the only reason we're still in Europe games is because of the crowds we take abroad. Mind you, the way the EU is going THEY will soon be taking over the football and then . . . . ?

Although its a shame, and the economy will lose out big style, and forgetting the mafia its about football.I was lucky enough to see the World Cup quarter, semi and final in South Africa and it was amazing how all fans just mingled, no trouble at all, no smashed up town centres just people from all over the world, buzzing to be at the event.

The thing that most impressed me though was the organisation and price structure.A pint was £3.50 everywhere, taxi-fares were the same with each taxi and printed on the outside of the cabs, the food even in the trendy part of Cape Town was cheap. All the security, bar staff, attendants, stewards were happy for us to be there.

Now 2018 in England, would have been rip off Britain at its best. Beer doubled in cost, grumpy stewards, aggressive policing, health and safety in overtime.

So for me good luck Russia, they got it so fair play

What ever way you look at it one outside vote for £15million outlay is a poor return . Without the media exposures the bid would still have failed .  I hope the media turn the heat up on suspected corruption within FIFA.

If we do eventually get a democraticly elected Fifa what will that mean ?  Probably one of the first matters they would address is the allocation of WORLD CUP venues .  Taking into account about 20 teams qaulify on a faily regular basis all these teams can claim to have a right to host the finals .  Maybe a few would not wish to take up the option , against that a few emerging nations and FIFA would see the finals as a opportunity to promote the game in their country . On this basis with the finals being played every four years realistically  any one nation can only expect to host them once in 80 years.

Many of the FIFA delegates should hang their heads in shame , by the same token the English led by the media should realise that many see our atitude to football as arrogant . Many produce better players than us and could put on a World Cup Final as good or if not better than England .  Maybe its time we got our heads out of the sand.

Sounds like we're not going to get the World Cup back here for a while.
Maybe we could start an alternative competition for 2022  :o
Nobody is going to want to go to Qatar and play footie in the heat,  call it the Boston United World Series   :dan

Russia and Qatar were always going to win these votes - where FIFA are involved, money very definitely makes the world go round.

Will Russia waive their usual visa requirements, or just put the prices up so FIFA can have their cut

Qatar should be interesting - 10 of the 12 venues are within a 19 mile radius, so virtually all the fans will be within spitting/bottling distance of each other.  Maybe they are expecting the trouble makers to still be in Siberian gulags by the time 2022 comes around!

I live next door to Qatar as it were!

Problem with Qatar is many fold, not least there being nothing to do there, especially as the temperature hits 40'C + with 80/90% humidity at times. Can be foggy and 34'C !!!

Tens of thousands of fans with nothing to do ...... alcohol available but in limited places, fan zones in that heat.

And the legacy? Stadiums will be empty in a tiny country with few teams and even less fans...

They are talking of eco stadiums, not a chance with the power needed to light and cool the stadiums their solar powered schemes have little chance unless technology moves on significantly in the next few years.

DC, as part of their bid they proposed dismantling the stadiums after the tournament and rebuilding them in developing countries..a nice gesture but will they still remain underused? Probably.

As part of their bid, they have said many things, yes moving them and carbon neutral stadiums.

Interestingly there is already over supply in the hotel market there, so not sure how building more is going to the legacy there.
