Title: IMPORTANT - MARINE TRAVEL
Post by: Pilgrim86 on April 17, 2010, 09:09:05 PM
Hello,

The club have have generously decided to provide TWO coaches to Marine next Saturday, FREE OF CHARGE, but on a first come, first served basis.

The club are asking for a 5 pound deposit on any seat on the coach, to be refunded on the day when you turn up.

This is through the club, NOT BUSA, so contact the club on 364406 to reserve your place, and then pay the 5 pounds in person at the club offices.

Ring and speak to John on 364406 for more details!

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!

P.S. Anybody originally booked on the BUSA coach will travel free, and DOES NOT have to book with the club. Anybody who then books with the club, despite being down as going with BUSA, will be taking up 2 spaces, depriving somebody else of going.

Great gesture by Dave Newton we are lucky to have such a generous man in charge of our club. I won't be taking up a seat as I'll be driving as normal so as many fans as possible can make the journey as possible, like those that cannot normally afford to travel etc.

Maybe it would be a nice gesture form Cropleys to subsidise travel in some way as obviously they are a local bus company and it will be their last game as main shirt sponsors.

I don't think he's even aware that Boston are still playing association football.

Booked myself and the boy on today.

I think as a reciprocal gesture all deposits should be given back to Utd as a Save the Pilgrims donation. Thats what I intend to do and have said as much to JB this morning. There is no way I could have afforded the BUSA price for 2 of us but I'm happy to plonk a tenner in the StP if it means being there.

I hope others follow suit.

Its a great thing for the club to do; I'll be driving over and going so there's a couple more fans going to bolster the away support; seems quite a good setup at Marine although I haven't been before...  Great result yesterday and like so many have said on here already; the title is in our hands.  Up the Pilgrims!!!

Great desture from the chairman. Booked me and the boy last night and have donated the tenner into the fund. Really hope results go our way in midweek although it would be very sweet to win at Marine.

We are hoping to go, not sure if Jack is yet (parents on stand by!!)
We will be going in the car though to allow extra seats for others who can't make it.

Hopefully a party atmosphere just like Hayes!
So get your face paints, hats etc & lets really get behind Boston United  ;D

Surely they have to run another coach even if they charge for it.

With interest like this it's a good job the capacity of the 'Arriva Stadium' is 2800, I just hope they print enough programmes... and that we win obviously.

Me and the lad wanted to go but living and working in Sleaford it was going to be difficult getting over with the money so we missed out  :(

Train will cost £70 for us and to take the car will cost about £60 so looks like it will be United Live for us  :(

I cant see anymore free coaches been put on as its just to costly,
Did think about it with van from work (8 seater)but even at this it would still cost around 80 to 100 pound to run.

Cardiff Pilgrim, I'm hoping to head up from Bristol, whats the train journey like?  If not the train I think I'm going to drive, but it sounds like a ball ache for parking etc.

I would have thought if enough people contacted the club wanting to pay the going rate for bus travel then they would be prepared to organise it, guess it's worth a try anyway.  The more people there the better from everyones point of view!  Even Marine as it should be a nice little pay day.

Should be making it down  from Birkdale with my ladyfriend  ..
As she lived and taught in Crosby for many years she has a knowledge of the area ..
She rates the 'Crows Nest 'as a small and cliquey pub .. but maybe a couple of hundred Utd fans will change all that  ..
Parking looks v dodgy   . .  early arivals may care to take in the Gormley iron men in the sea North of Crosby . . again parking v difficult  . .
Would hope the surrounding vibes are as inofensive as say Hayes those years ago . . but this being Liverpool on a Sat afternoon be prepared .
If the sight of the Boston crowd  outside the ground is only half that at Hayes ..the tears will still well up

I will be heading over on the train with the other half across to crosby anybody know how far the ground is from the station.

And on the subject of buses im sure the club would surely at least take names for another if people agreed to pay whatever the usual price is these days when i was back in boston it used to be members and non members prices but that was a few years ago

The rail service Liverpool Central  to  Blundellsands and Crosby is excellent ..every 15 mins ..
Wouldn,t guess the hopes of getting South beyond say Brum by rail on the Sat night .
Fans going to say Preston and Yorks may have a better journey going north to Southort ..then change at Wigan .
-------GROUND is about 1/2  mile up COLLEGE RD from Crosby Stn ----------
Best wishes to those travelling by rail . . its a  lonely way to travel . . compared the sixty at a time .. heart to heart Coach .. esp this time .

Fantastic gesture from the club/Chestnuts/BUSA - glad I've managed to take advantage of it! Think letting the club keep the fiver is the least we can do really.

Have to say though find it astonishing they don't expect to put any more official transport on. It looks like they could at least fill up a couple more even if people had to pay. Obviously there have to be limits on what they give away for nothing and I suppose they don't want to charge some but not others...

Im surprised the club have just said that no further travel will be arranged. Even if it isnt free people will still want to go. Maybe they could run further busses at a subsidised rate of £10 a head or something or even at full price.

I dont think anyone who would have to pay would grumble, fair play to the fans who were booking up ASAP they deserve the free seats as they were booked first.

Title: Re: IMPORTANT - MARINE TRAVEL
Post by: Bostonshire on April 19, 2010, 08:17:21 PM
cost would depend on amount of people get in, the van would be 100, First 40 as already gone so it would need the other 5 to cover the 60

I completely agree and have emailed the club to this effect - I would plead with others to do the same. We all know that the club can only afford so much - but surely they could cover the administration of organising 1,2 or even 3 more coaches if the cost was covered by us fans who have missed out on the free travel.

You're thinking small.  ;)

When Boston played at Derby in the FA Cup in 1974 (http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/C050174.html) the Boston fans travelled over in 70 coaches and a football special train. When I was going back to Leeds on Saturday night there was a chartered train heading towards Skegness from Oxford as I passed through Sleaford....

I'm getting the 8.45 from Cardiff to Brum with a 15 min change to get the 11.01 from brum to Liverpool south parkway and then a brief change to get the 12.39 to blundellaands.

Getting the 6.37 back and there are later trains down south too, getting in at 12.15

Long day but hopefully well worth it.

If anyone sees me, I'll be one in a badly fitting 06/07 shirt so feel free to say hi

Hi all Jan from BUSA here.
Apologies this might be a long post :(
Firstly can I first say I am still gobsmacked by the unbelievably generous offer from David/the Club to offer these free coaches.
Secondly please don't shoot/hang me if it doesn't happen but there may yet be another coach laid on!! Without going into details we have been chatting with the club and I am waiting to hear(obviously will be Tuesday daytime now) if it comes off.
If a 5th coach does run then it will be the club rather than BUSA that you need to book with in the first instance though I am hoping some seats will be reserved for 'me' as I am aware from reading on here that some of you are having problems/just missing out.
It is not a pre-requisite for you to attend the office with your money to book on, you can book by phone to get your name on the list and then bring/ send the money with someone before Friday.
If getting in touch is a problem send me a message on here via The President and I will do what I can afraid I will need your real surname though!

Think asking people to pay for any more coaches rather than free is a tricky one and though I, like a lot of folk on here would have no objection to trumping up a few quid to get there not everyone would and would certainly gripe about it!!!'Fraid the Club set a precedent that would be difficult to alter. Spent a couple of hours in the office this morning and it is amazing the number of people who never normally go to an away game thought they should/deserved to be made a special case of because they decided they would like to go to this one!!!!

As some one else suggested if a couple of you got together and rang round coach companies maybe a Patter Party to Marine could be organised for those who don't mind paying.

Think that's all for now folks  xxxxx

In answer to Jan's point about people jumping on the bandwagon.....in hindsight, perhaps a farer solution would have been to use a spare season ticket voucher as payment for the coaches?

Others have suggested surrendering your deposit for the STPF.....can I suggest that everyone does that and then gives a little bit more to reflect the level of the freebie you are getting?

We have always had bandwagon jumpers, where did all those fans who filled 11 train carriages for the trip to Tranmere disappear to the week after??Where did all those at Wembley vanish too??Where did all those at Hayes disappear too??

Always happened always will, every club has them...

Neil, get in the spriit it will be a great day. Some people who have fallen on tough times in recent years may not have had the financial clout to follow the team they support. So when the club make a fantatsic gesture its a gesture to all fans.

We are hiring a fifteen seat mininbus,by doing so it means fifteen people get subsidised travel, but we dont mind.More the merrier.

I was merely answering what was stated, wasn't intended as having a go,there will always be those who only watch the team on 'special' occasions was all I was saying..

I agree it is a superb gesture from the club,my comments were not aimed at them merely at those who Jan said thought they had the god given right to be on the buses..........

The genrosity of David and Neil never fails to amaze me. Proping the club up financially, putting many hours work for probably no return, giving the club it's good name back, putting it back in the community and getting 2 of the best young managers at this level and probably the level above If they see you at a game they come and have a chat unlike any previous owners of the club - the list goes on. Not satisfied with this they now put on 5 free coaches!! I know they don't like the limelight but hope everyone shows there appreciation on Saturday.

Really looking forward to your visit to us on saturday should be a great day, weather forecast is good for us as well. Just one point on the parking situation, College Road is a busy shopping street, and is always conjested on a Saturday with shoppers. It might be better for you to park on the seafront next to Crosby Leasure Centre, large carpark, think thats where your coaches are going.  Seafront is about a 5 min walk from the ground, plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, there is a pub just next to the ground although its quite small, but you will be able to watch some footy. Dont be tempted to park on College Road, the traffic wardens are a nightmare!! See you all Saturday and good luck, I hope you do it Boston!! ;D

Think Spayne Road, but smaller.. runs the whole length of the pitch, but not as many steps. Also an open terrace behind one goal...

Try this link for pics of Marines ground, appears to be just 3 sides to it, hope the link works as have not done it before!

Think we have the terrace (open) behind the goal and the covered terrace along the sidelines.

Thanks pilgrim 86 and beefy. The link worked fine ! Lets hope it's a lovely sunny day for the open terrace, if it is I can put the Lincolnshire flag up that end. If it rains it'll be a devil to get dried lol.

not to put a jinx on the weather, but the forcasts for marine on saturday is sunny, with a maximum temp of 16oC, so should be fine for the open terrace

Just looked at the pics of the sides.

Don't they know that Bostonians are officially the porkiest lard buckets in the country, let alone the Unidump?

Just about to book my train from Brighton where i'm now living, £82 return which isn't too bad i suppose. I leave at just past 7am and get back down here after 1am the following morning. All this will be well worth it if we come good on the day and get that vital win. I can't remember being this excited/nervous before Hayes or Wembley. I think we've all suffered enough in the past few years and i would love us to get out this league and give us all something to shout about once again. COME ON YOU PILGRIMS!!!!!

For any of you that plan to stay and make a weekend of it, the alternative to Liverpool City Centre is our local area Crosbwww.sugarvine.com/liverpool/neighbourhood.../story.asp?...y Village has many bars to enjoy, or if you want a really good range of different foods try South Road, this link provides some details of eating places, however there are more than included, Indian, Tapas, Burger Bars, Pizza places, pubs etc., cant go wrong. Enjoy.  ;)

How big is the car park at the leisure centre and how long parking can you get?
Title: Re: IMPORTANT - MARINE TRAVEL
Post by: ragman on April 21, 2010, 09:02:47 PM
Jimmystars, the parking is all along the waterfront in designated areas from Seaforth to Blundellsands coastguard station. The carpark at the Leisure centre is free all day you can park in all the surrounding roads as well unlimited, think this is probably your best bet mate.

However, there is parking in Brook Road East about 100yrds before you get to the ground. It is free from double yellows, and a bit nearer than the seafront.  Brook Road East is the second left after the Park on College Road. If you pass the petrol station on the left you have gone past it.  ;)

Tamara, there is loads to do. In Crosby we have a great walk along the beach if weather prevails! with the display of "Another Place" by Anthony Gormley Iron Men Statues. Short by car/merseyrail into Liverpool City Centre, can recomend the Albert Dock, loads of stuff going on there every weekend,  Liverpool One, Pier Head to get a ferry across the Mersey, there are also the Duck Tours, around the city centre ending up literally in the River Mersey, but think you might have to book that one, liverpool Museaum and Art Gallery in William Brown St., City Centre. In the other direction, there is Southport, a typical British seaside town, which has a large park called Hesketh Park, ducks, avery, all sorts of kids attractions, dont know if the Funfair is open just yet worth checking out.  Feel like a tourist guide!! Hope it helps. Let me know how you enjoyed yourselves.

Thanks very much for that Ragman it looks like there is plenty to do.
Will probably avoid Southport as we live next to the Coast.
I am really excited about Saturday, I'm sure it will be a great day. I am looking forward to being part of your community day.
