Probably.

But just from the era I can remember I don't think he's even close to the likes of Chris Cook or Jim Kabia in terms of total goals. And Darren Munton had two or three seasons as  a regular scorer as well.

If you're looking at goals-per-game ratios instead of just total goals then you'd have to say Andy Kirk and Daryl Clare were the best we've had.

Kirk and Clare should be excluded!

I make Newsham 12th highest goalscorer now - closing in on Ray Wilkins (no not that one) and Harry Sharp.

Indeed! Sometime in the next few weeks I'm going to have a go at finding out a bit more about him so I can do a write up for a "My Favourite Pilgrim" column in the match programme - although technically he was never a Pilgrim as Boston United weren't Pilgrims until the 1970s!

Found this ages ago about Frank, sorry but it's on Grantham.
Hope it helps and the link works.

Thanks Garry - spotted that myself a few weeks ago. Another piece in the jigsaw. Still don't know what happened to him after Grantham. He was born in 1909 so when he left Grantham in 1937 he would have been 28 - which is a bit early to retire, but he may have been injured. I think I'm going to have to spend a couple of days in libraries looking at various local newspapers as well as doing a bit of genealogy stuff on one of the ancestry searching sites. It will be fun.

Well done, Ken. You obviously need the questions to be a bit more challenging. Therefore what positions are Jackie Gallagher and Willie Gamble in the all-time top goalscorers lists?

I don't think Jackie Gallagher troubled the scorers so that puts him equal last. As for Willie Gamble, when he was playing for Boston I was working down in London and I only saw him play twice - in the away games at Barnet and Enfield. Boston won both games and Gamble scored in both. Little did I realise that this would be the complete set of Willie Gamble's goals for Boston!
