I would think our "pool" will now revert back to the East Midlands Nottingham-Derby-Leicester-Peterborough area of seasons past.

So would I, that's the era when we seemed to have the best teams.

With the odd random long hauler, like the Sunderland lads under Greene!

I was thinking more in line with the Jim Smith era.

I see Zak Goodson has been released by Alty. Did we see enough of him to make a judgement?

Good question. 11 appearances, 5 starts, 6 subs. 1 goal. Not impressive but it's a small sample size. Basically got replaced by Chadwick.

I see Grimsby has released several players, do you think any are worth a look at?

Well it's the silly season now isn't it? Any player being released from a higher club might be on our radar now but no-one really knows who can commit to the new model and those who either can't or won't. It's quite easily to assume players dropping down from a full-time club might be realistic targets now but I suspect some will know their time in professional football is probably over and have already started making plans beyond football, and there will be those who still see their future in League Two and whose wages would put them out of our reach even if they did want to compromise with a hybrid model and NLN football. I've always thought building a team at Step 2 can be pretty complicated unless you're full time because even with a hybrid model you're asking blokes to make sacrifices in their professional careers or their studies!

Silly season indeed. I just hope the club's scouting system is better than ours!
