Title: United People
Post by: TAWMAN on April 06, 2018, 01:44:29 PM
A new book is out now - 'United People. Boston United Players' Stories'.

The book contains interviews with former Boston United players by pupils at St Thomas' CE School (during 1989 and 1990). Those interviewed included Keith Alexander, Gordon Bolland, Don Donovan, Jimmy Fell, Reg Harrison, Eric Houghton, Arthur Mann, Steve Thompson (the ex-Lincoln City and Charlton one) and Matt Tees.

Me (Doug Lowe) and my son (James) have now edited these interviews and added a wealth of information and graphics.

Further details can be found at https://unitedpeoplebook.wordpress.com/

This is a great idea and very unique.
I attended St Thomas school at this time and I seem to remember interviewing Keith Alexander.
Iam not sure if this was at St Thomas  or when I moved to middlecott.
I can distinctley remember how tall he was.

A great man. He taught me woodwork when I left school and was doing YTS. Seem to recall the YTS place was at Kirton. He was happy talking about his footballing career and was so down to earth.

The book sounds interesting.

Well, it's 9 months on and I have to say how disappointing the response has been from the Boston area. Nothing from the Boston Standard or Boston Target. Likewise, the Lincolnshire Echo. Or, for that matter the courtesy of replies to my emails from key individuals at those papers. The only reply I got from Lincolnshire newspapers was from Trevor Green, the Sports Editor of the Grimsby Telegraph, who put a piece about the book in that paper.

We received compliments from Graeme Kent and the present head of St Thomas School but no further interest from the school or former pupils. Craig Singleton ensured there was a mention on the club website. However, despite the thousands of words on Boston United related twitter feeds, nothing about 'United People' on them. I'm still waiting to hear back from Craig about sales at the club but, as I sent him 70 copies and he hasn't asked for more, that means definite sales in Boston have been no more than 71! Quite frankly, this lack of interest is staggering.

Well I bought one........

Sad to say interest in the club is at its lowest ebb since the mid 90's dog days of Mel Sterland.........people suggest idea's for progressing the club but they don't appear to want to listen and as a result they lose interest and stop going

Were was Craig selling these books, as l would like a copy.
But you are correct that it is disappointing to hear that the club and local media have not pushed or gave the book publicity.

i was given one for Christmas. it's a fascinating insight to how different players think and adapt life at BUFC and life before and after.
