Title: Well that was a struggle!
Post by: Ernie100 on September 22, 2012, 05:30:30 PM
Why do we always play poorly against these lower league clubs? ???

Ah but today we won! A John Beck team of big lads was always going to be a bit of a test but we thoroughly outplayed them but shoulda scored more. Still its only £4500 for s 1-0, no more for 2-0

Well said, biggest result of the season so far.

Let's hope for a home draw in the next round.

Or away against FCUM/Halifax or Chester etc would do as gate money is split evenly after the FA have taken their 5%

The FA do not take their share until 3rd Round games (except 5% in 1st and 2nd Round replays), and even then, non league clubs still get the 50%.

The £4500 we got for winning will about compensate the club for the 200 missing regulars.......its not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

It's £4500 more than if we'd lost, and them 200 regulars would still have been missing today regardless. It also gives us a chance to keep winning prize money and sharing gates.

As for the performance, Kettering where everything we expected, direct, dirty and playing for set pieces. It was god awful to watch but the right team won in the end. It was the usual though, we played okish first half but where poor second half. got sucked into the long ball game second half and they started creating when first half they did nothing. Was good to see we can grind a result out against this type of team as already said by LCB.

Wrong.

After convo with those who count today. The crowd was up by 250 to what was predicted.

But all of the regulars who did turn up, had to pay. A profitable day :)

Is the next round still regional? If so we are in the southern section.

With respect you obviously watched a different game to me.....we didnt struggle in my opinion.....some of the footie we played in the first half was excellent.....it just didnt have the end product.....KTFC gave it everything as one would expect.......but so did we.....it was a hard earnt victory typical of an FA Cup game.....sometimes you have to grind these results out.....its good to progress in a competition in which we have struggled in recent times.....

Played well today on the floor (mainly first half). We created lots of chances and should have won by more!  Second half we brought jones on and started playing more long ball and I think we could have had a few more chances if we played it more on the floor, therefore personally I would have kept stokes on and changed it later in the half. But don't get me wrong jones is a good player. But they didn't give up and made it more difficult, and tbh this shouldn't happen against Kettering however we held on well, and that's great! Would also like to mention how fantastic Ian Ross was today, but he's was brilliant like ussually. Also brilliant that we won because we got all that money! This is fantastic for the club!

excellent performance against a very physical team. We were the best team by far all round. Could have scored more but we really controlled the match. The best teams can't always score loads of goals every match. If Kettering are full time it just shows how well Jason and co. have done to get our team so fit and playing good attractive football. Well done United.

And everyone has the right to stand where they want (segregation permitting), and call themselves by what they wish. I'd call myself a TownEnders, basically because I stand at the Town End in the vast majority of home games.

I know the guy in question, and he isn't one of the traditional 'TownEnders' from the Evans days.
