Didn't Fatty McFraud guide Scotland to World Cup Glory in 78?

NO? - Must be a mis-print in his forthcoming autobiography!

And Ben Foster was in goal when Andy Kirk got that hat trick at Kidderminster...
Shame Ruddy didn't get in ahead of Forster - then all 3 GKs would've played against BUFC. I think he played for Cambridge.

Gordon Strachan
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

World Cup glory in 1978. All I remember was a drugs scandal and a win when already eliminated and the opposition was already through. The trouble was that Ally's tartan army celebrated their victory before leaving home. Nobody told Willie Johnston of the plan. I don't think even Evans would wish to be associated with that debacle.

Efe Sodje played for Nigeria against England in 2002 (Japan & Korea). He also played for Macclesfield Town against Boston. Two of his younger brothers more recently got caught up in the match fixing allegations.

Gordon Banks and Geoff Hurst both won the World Cup, and both managed Telford United. Though I'm not sure if either of them were in charge at Telford during matches against Boston.

Andy Townsend played for Weymouth and Welling, and was later part of the Republic of Ireland World Cup Squad.

Mark Lawrenson played two games for Barnet, one of which was against Boston. I'm not sure he ever played in a World Cup, but he will certainly have commentated at World Cups!

Peter Beardsley has played for England at World Cups and has been to a sportsman's dinner at the Pilgrim Lounge!

I'm sure John Aldridge played for South Liverpool as a boy in a game up here.

Danny Blanchflower?

Have to raid Ken's site to check that one, goes back a long way.

The biggest game in the club's history - against Spurs in the third round proper of the FA Cup in 1956. As well as Danny Blanchflower the Spurs side also had Mel Hopkins who played in all Wales' games in the 1958 World Cup (including the famous quarter final against Brazil where Pelé scored his first World Cup goal) and Maurice Norman who was in the England squad at the same tournament.

Sir Stanley Matthews brought a Port Vale XI to York Street in mid 6o's during our days in the West Midlands League. SSM was player manager of Port Vale and played in this match aged 52. Pilgrims won 5-1.

Did Ron Atkinson not pick Willie Johnston up at the airport and tell him he had managed to get him a sponsorship deal with Boots the chemist.

Brian McBride - Scored at York Street and also at two World Cups!

Luis Boa Morte was also in that Fulham team. He played for Portugal in Germany 2006
