In my opinion I think Ward is good enough as a stand-in centre-half - something we probably also need at this level and with our financial constraints. On his day he is a good solid player but just lacks consistency. I thought both him and Stainfield played much better when paired alongside someone like Alan White in recent times.
I don't think we have the luxury of being able to have three or maybe four really good centre-halves so I think Ward will be a useful squad player - and he can play in a variety of positions.
