Not quite sure what happened with Louth in the summer, he was building a decent team and then out of the blue most of the squad seemed to leave.

Pure quality when he won us the Conference title all those years ago...and then we let him go for zilch! Could have been a potential £1M striker but did the rounds at Conference/League 2 level and never gave himself the chance to prove himself as a Championship player. He HAS still got it though! A little surprised he's not re-joined Pilgrims for a 3rd spell. :bunny

He was a striker who couldn't cut it at Football League level.

Why would we need him here?

I thought he looked washed up when he came back for his second stint with us about 8 years ago, slow, over weight and another failed McFraud ego trip on the road to near oblivion.

He's probably punching above his weight at FC.

Is Gary Bull still playing? He and Clare certainly could make for an experienced strike partnership.

(I did try looking at their official site to see what other players are there, but gave up as soon as I realised they still had Dunn and Hocking listed as their managers).

Yep. Looking at the Boston Town site, it is no way as good as Boston United's Official Site - thanks to the efforts that Craig goes to. I cannot understand why MOST clubs allow there websites to become out of date with useless information. Pure laziness and poor administration? Town still have Stoner registered as a Striker - I thought he'd been released through injury! :bunny

With the Southport game coming up on Saturday I can't help but think of Daryl Clare.

He was class, quality, a natural goal scorer and a match winner. We should never forget that.

I imagine paying someone to keep a website going is a luxury many can't afford. Most probably rely on volunteers or someone else within the club.

Shouldn't have to PAY someone to keep a simple website up-to-date! Surely they must be a supporter who can update for free? I dunno - people want paying for everything! So much for Cameron's Big Society!!!!

£1m for Daryl Clare? Are you mental?

I have to agree with LPRA. Had we sold Daryl Clare at the time it wouldn't have been for £1m. It would have been for an [UNDISCLOSED] six or seven or eight figure sum.

OK. Why not? Having seen the overinflated priced players out there, why not Daryl? £1M is not much for a League player nowadays.

We'd have done well to get £100K...........and the club would have seen nothing of it.......like the David Norris 'fee'......

Because Daryl Clare was not a League quality striker. The best striker we had, Andy Kirk, went for about £100k.

.......and yet we sang his praises - and how we sung them! - when he won us the Conference. Now 11 years later, some are saying he "couldn't cut it" and I am "mental"! In football, you are soon yesterday's man! "Times they are a changing"! I still thank Daryl for the time he was with us and what he achieved for the club. His goals got us the opportunity to play in the Football League.

Yes, he won us the Conference, scoring plenty of goals and he earned those plaudits at the time (and since). However, he couldn't cut it in the Football League. Why would someone pay £1m for someone who couldn't perform at League Two level?

Thanks for the interesting debate on the merits of various non-league websites.
Boston Town clearly have far fewer resources than Boston United and rely almost entirely on volunteers.
I would note, however, that as I write (5.22pm on Sat Nov 30) there's a full match report and picture from Boston Town's game this afternoon on their website but no mention at all of Boston United's latest game on their website.
