I may be confused by the numbers quoted but it seems to me that if the population of a fictitious country is 10,000,000 women and 7,000,000 men then to say 5% of the population of the country is gay (referring to men only) is an incorrect statement. 5% of the Male population is gay would be the exact way of putting it. Surely you can only use the terms 50% or 100% if the population is made up of equal numbers of males and females, unless of course some of the men have been castrated in which case that would throw the calculations into disarray and would need re thinking.
