Title: Today's game at Barrow
Post by: Odin on December 20, 2014, 09:28:03 AM
Stay at home today boys and let Barrow have the 3 pts. Why you may ask.
M62 nearly all 50mph limit (anything to do with Ken).
Cold and wet up here with a "brisk North westerly wind".
Barrow are favourites to win anyway so for the sake of 3pts save the journey money.
Lots of traffic expected on the motorways so won't be a nice trip.
Referee most likely to be crap (most of em are) so no favours from him, he probably lives in Barrow anyway.
After losing to NF the other night and out of the play offs what's the point.
After only being in Lancashire for 1 day I'm already depressed, quick get the medicine.
For those of you making the journey I hope you have a good day.
Happy bloody Xmas.  :xmashat :xmashat :xmashat

Your advice is better than Dens tactics!

Tactics !
I thought we were making it up as we went along. I think the players could get their heads together and come up with something better.

Nice posting Odlin! Forget football and support the property development side of BUFC. We could all go down to Wyberton and watch The Quadrant being built instead!  :santa :santa

According to Cumbria radio Barrow should be 3-1 up but Dixon has made 6 great saves to keep Boston in the game. Obviously didn't go today but will try to get to the Fylde v Barrow game on Boxing Day, that could be a cracker.

Attendance 1413. 80 visiting supporters. All Barrow at moment. Still 0-0

Penalty for Barrow, Goal. Their commentators say it was a harsh decision, they were surprised the ref gave it

You only have to read the Barrow forum and the many comments by their fans saying how fortunate they were to be gifted a penalty. Too often the phrase unlucky is used in football but we were indeed unlucky to be beaten today and the primary cause, an inept official. While a draw would of been a decent result for us, it's unfortunately added to several disappointing results of late.

I think we'll win the odd game here and there but we're stuck with the squad and management we have and must accept it's highly doubtful we'll make a challenge for the playoffs this season, given the inconsistent performances and lack of depth in the squad. We've a modest budget and it shows, maybe next season whoever's in charge will be more successful. All we can do is back the team and hope for the best.

Merry Christmas  :santa

Im afraid that will be the case, our budget as been the same for a few years, Wages increase 6 or 7 teams maybe more budget a few grand more than us, a few lift it by a few hundred a season to account for this other drop, TBH i think our league is about right maybe a place or to above the budget level

Why oh why do we always seem to come unstuck in the final minutes AFTER DG has brought on the substitutes? Is there something wrong with these tactics? Do we practise taking long shots at goal for ten minutes like Fylde seem to do before every home match? They (Fylde) have scored many of their goals from outside the area whereas we try to score inside the goal area without much success recently.
Comments please!

We were unlucky to lose in the manner we did today. The team battled very hard and Joel was
Magnificent in goal. Can anyone explain to me how a fair shoulder to shoulder challenge can
Result in a penalty being awarded when it is not a foul anywhere else on the pitch?
Ridiculous decision!!

The 'foul' was committed by Piergianni. What was wrong with the subs today?

Generally, substitutions weaken a team.  Otherwise they would be starting as the stronger of the players.

They can be used to chase a game or see it out, however if all you are doing is adding fresh legs, you'll generally be taking a risk to try and keep things as they are.

Problem is with out team is we still have a few players not 100% fit so we have to change players to keep 11 active players on the pitch. as you rightly say this only weekens the team but its a catch 22

The real problem is the crap refs. They decide the outcome of the game. They can end up booking players because they don't control the players at the outset. Some are so bad that the only reason for their ineptitude is being on the take. That bloke yesterday should be deported. The FA just tell em to laugh if they get abuse instead of analysing WHY they are getting the abuse. If you lead with your chin you get a punch on it.

Mmmmmmm Tuesday night I was near the snack bar area when Jones was shoved in the back in front of the linesman, blatant foul but lino said "fair shoulder barge player" yet yesterday it is given as a foul..... Bloody officials don't seem to know the rules from one game to the next..

More a shoulder in the back of the forward shielding the ball .  I think most refs would have given that .

Just looked at the video and it was a penalty!Forearm in the back is not a shoulder barge!

I must say that having only listened to the radio commentary and now having watched the video I thought it looked more of a penalty than I was expecting it to.   However, Joel Dixon was nowhere near ready when the referee blew his whistle for the spot kick - that was ridiculous!

Just watched the highlights and both teams had plenty of chances to score. Looking at the penalty decision, i think the referee was right. Unfortunate to lose but we need to get maximum points over the festive period if we want to challenge for the play-offs. :snowman

Bickering aside, that looked a great game of football I missed yesterday.  McGhee looked back to his best.

Penalty? hmmm I'm not so sure but can see why it was given.

Result immaterial. Quadrant, Quadrant, Quadrant. That's the biggest result for BUFC & Chestnut Homes. It's what we all wanted. Who is going to watch the builders start work in the next 3 months? Take a flask and chair and cheer the workers on.

Whether or not it was a harsh penalty (and looking at it. it did actually appear to be apen) holding on or contending that it wasn't gives a perfect excuse for defeat does it not?
That said they certainly had a lot of other really clear cut chances.
I am no longer letting myself get worked up about it, and as we approach a happy time of year have settled into the idea that 8th to 14th is almost inevitable and am really looking forwars to next season. ;D
