Does anybody know what those two circular objects are on the roof of the York Street stand?

A bit early for satellite dishes, me thinks!

The lad sent off in that game was the 18 year old Academy skipper Danny Seagar, who was a cracking lad from London, really dedicated and you couldn't wish to meet a nicer lad. He was making his debut for the first team. I think he got sent off after about 10 minutes when it was 2-0. Evans told him he would never play for the first team again ...and he didn't. He captained the Academy to win the Lincs U18 Trophy and the RAF League Cup though but left at the end of that season because he knew he didn't have a future at the club while Evans was still here.

I can remember another game towards the end of that season away at Merthyr Tydfil, where again our squad was stretched to the bare bones. As I recall our assistant manager Trevor Quow even dusted off his boots and played. There was a young academy player who I remember running about a lot and then getting injured in that game and taken off. I had it in my mind that he was Danny Seager as well, but if he onlyplayed at Bath then it must have been someone else. Time has a habit of playing tricks on my memory.

I don't want to put a dampener on things, but I remember going down to Bath for an end-of-season midweek match once - 1999 I think. The original game had been postponed from a Saturday, and we had to make the long trip with a number of players missng due to work commitments. As I recall we had some suspensions as well, and fielded an understrength side. We then had someone sent off in the very early stages.

We were 4-0 down inside about twenty minutes, 5-0 down at half-time (I think) and eventually lost the game 8-0. Our three travelling supporters trudged out of the ground thoroughly demoralised and started the long drive back up the M5.

It made the experience of pipping Bath to the Championship all the more sweeter a year later.

A great achievement, made even the more remarkable by the act of balancing a salt cellar on his head for the entire journey. It's a shame that the pepper pot went overboard.

I can remember in my early days of secondary school (not that long ago) another lad in my class going regularly to watch Grimsby. Sometimes I'd get him to bring me a programme back, as I perceived Grimsby to be a big club. Oh how times have changed at Blunder, sorry I mean Blundell, Park.

I still remember our last trip to Cleethorpes. It was the opening day of the season, the sun was shining and we went 2-0 up and played some great stuff. But somehow we threw it all away and ended up losing 3-2 - think a sub called Peter Bore did the damage. Can a season's turning point really happen on the opening day? From that point forward it was sales (Joachim, Elding, etc), defeats, court rooms, not enough players to fill a subs bench and ultimately relegation. But for half a game that season we were happy.

The B-Ark / Re: Cotton gone...

From day one the new managers have made their preference for a 4-3-3 system quite obvious. That's their prerogative, though personally I've never been convinced that out-and-out wingers fit easily into that system. A natural winger will look to beat a full-back on the outside and get crosses in from the by-line for a centre forward to get on the end of; our system seems to need players with more of an instinct to cut inside from wide positions.

Cotton is a very good player but perhaps not suited to Boston's chosen system. I wish him well for the future but fear he is the type of player who will come back and haunt us one day.

To a certain extent I do find myself questioning the managers' decision to sign wingers given their preferred shape and formation. Kennedy, Cotton and to a lesser extent Kirk have all been and gone in a relatively short space of time. A few fleeting substitute appearances aside, neither Kennedy nor Cotton were given many opportunities to impress.

The B-Ark / Stocksbridge Park Steels Matchday Programme - Anybody Want One?
« on: November 09, 2009, 08:12:17 PM »

Hi all,

I was on the BUSA supporters' coach that travelled to Stocksbridge Park Steels recently but was unable to buy a programme on the night as Stocksbridge underestimated demand and sold out.

I'm posting on behalf of someone else who has been in contact with Stocksbridge, with a view to them potentially printing a second batch to go on sale to Boston fans, hopefully allowing people to complete their sets.

No guarantees yet, but in case this proves viable it would be helpful if people could give an indication that they are interested, so that we can assess the likely level of demand. We'd be looking to sell them for the cover price of £1.50.

If anyone definitely wants one please PM me (asap) with a valid name and contact details (We don't want to be left with a fistful of orders to people we can't identify).

If you know of anyone else who might be interested and perhaps doesn't come on this forum, please ask them.

Thanks

The B-Ark / Re: James Cullingworth
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:45:00 PM »

Matthews had a cracking first season for the club, but then got injured in the very first game last time around. I do wonder if our season would have panned out any differently last time around if it hadn't been for some woeful luck with injuries. How long were we missing the likes of Matthews, Kieran Leabon and Ollie Ryan?

And I haven't even bothered mentioning Danny Matson.

Plenty of people on here obsess about former players and at the end of the day there are lots of good players out there who haven't previously played for Boston. But I do think Matthews was one of the unlucky ones to be released last season.

Cullingworth has started fifteen games this season:

FC United - WIN
Kendal - DRAW
Frickley - WIN
Guiseley - WIN
Hucknall - DRAW
Burscough - DEFEAT
Matlock - DRAW
Loughborough - WIN
Bradford - DRAW
Whitby - DRAW
Retford - DEFEAT
Lowestoft - DEFEAT
Buxton - DRAW
Quorn - DRAW
Quorn - DEFEAT

He has been either dropped or suspended for the remaining six fixtures:

Ashton - WIN
Worksop - WIN
Chorley - WIN
Nantwich - WIN
Stocksbridge - DEFEAT
North Ferriby - WIN

If all of these were league games and with three points available for a win, we would be averaging 2.5 points per game with Cullingworth out of the side, but only 1.3 points per game with him playing.

Should we be drawing any conclusions from these statistics?

Overall you have to say it was a good second half performance, though I still can't comprehend how Spencer Weir-Offside was credited with two goals. Does the Unibond League have a dubious goals panel? The first effort would have ended up closer to the snack bar than the goal, but for the hapless defender diverting it into his  own net. I'm not entirely sure that the second one would have gone in either - had it not been for another deflection.

I suppose any player credited with two goals is always in the running for man-of-the-match and I credit him for getting into those positions in the first place. But as far as overall performances were concerned, I thought Suarez should have been man-of-the-match.

The B-Ark / Re: Formation for North Feriby?

I thought Camm had poor games in both matches against Quorn. When he was substituted I assumed the managers were watching the same game as me and that it was a tactical switch. Alas, it was injury-related after all.

One other thing I've noted from the write-up on the official site...

Quote
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 2-0 in Ferriby’s favour and this time around, the visitors are set to include former Pilgrims Tom Matthews, Ben Morley and Russell Fry in their squad.

Please remind me, but who was Russell Fry?

Plenty of police TV documentaries nowadays show "Rat Trap" vehicles, where a car is rigged with hidden cameras, and left in a vulnerable hot-spot location with some kind of goodies openly on show. It doesn't have to be anything expensive - you could use packaging from some form of electrical good or perhaps even a broken lap-top. (Has anybody got one of those)?

Maybe one should be deployed in different locations around the ground on matchdays?
