Grimsby sack Slade......
-
Looking on The New Fishy fans forum earlier it was suggested that Town repeat history and approach our manager .
-
Hands off! >:(
-
What other mgrs are available ?
-
What other mgrs are available ?
Gary and Frecks !!
-
Heard they are interested in CE let’s hope it is unfounded.
-
Its happened before so could happen again ..
I think Grims sacked Slade to poach CE .
Player poaching could be damaging as well .
I presume Patters up to speed on this are swigging their quarts of whisky before replying :'(
-
Think the step would be too much for CE at the moment, it was only 1 division when they poached last time but two is asking too much in my opinion. One thing you can be sure of though is that DN will be keeping a close eye on things and will act accordingly.
-
I've been on the fishy forum, and many names are already mentioned by the cod army, including Craig Elliott, Neil Redfern, Stuart McCall, Phil Brown, Paul Hurst. They desperately hate John Fenty, and most posts that mention him also blame him for screwing the club for 15 years!
-
I guess McCall is a possible from that list TT .
-
Craig will stay put with us!
-
Craig is an ambitious manager who will go far one day, but I believe his honesty and integrity will keep him here and continue with the plan he has started so admirably.
-
They will not go for CE, there is plenty of League managers out of work.
Give the job to Billy Heath.
-
You must also remember that Craig is under contract, so if Grim Grimsby want him, they will have to pay compensation to us for him, and I very much doubt DN would let him go for cheap, If they want him make them pay big bucks for him.
They will go for someone who is for free.
-
contracted till end of next season so id guess it need to be a good sum
-
You must also remember that Craig is under contract
Is he? Got a link to a news article from the club that says this?

Contracts seem to be of little value at our level even if they do exist , similar too for players contracts unless Bosman rule applies .
-
Some of the Fishy lot think CE would be the right choice for them. The good thing is CE is an intelligent individual so I doubt he would jump into that car crash. If we keep up the same form and they do, he could well be visiting them next season anyway 😂

Billy Heath, Billy the Fish or even
Billy Elliott
Anyone but our Craig thanks.
-
I don't think Fenton will want.to take on DN again in the courts, so Fenton's fishy army can go and sling there hook in to the vast sea of out of work manager's.
I am sure they will find a little fishy to put on their dishy.
-
Just changing the subject, what is the extent of Clifton's hip injury as he seems to be have been out of action for sometime now.
Has he had replacement hip fitted, it's been that long LOL
-
Elliott 2/5 fav with sky bet, let’s hope they have got it wrong and Mr Newton holds firm and tells Fenty to fish off.
-
In reply to youngchubby 69. Thomas Chapman, sports therapist, said in the match day programme," James Clifton is still suffering with groin pain although he is progressing well with his rehabilitation. Although James is making steady progress we are still a little way off his return to the squad. We will continue to progress him where we can in order to get him back as soon and as safely as possible."
-
Thanks for the info, the benefits of buying a programme.
What a shame for him, he is a quality player and would certainly be in the match day sqaud.
-
I think he'll go and we'll end up with Billy Heath .....
-
Slade was on a 6 month rolling contract, think CE would want more security than that to go full time and give up his day job. Would Fenty be willing to give an untried manager at that level such a contract? It would be a big gamble by both parties, let’s hope we never find out.
-
I cant find anything about his contract wise but im still sure Radio lincolnshire reported it as a 1.5 year deal at the time of his appointment
-
Those sky bet odds are quite worrying.....
-
Sky bets odds are only driven by people betting on who they would like.
There is absolutely no mention of him in the local Grimsby media.
I don't think Newton will even allow them to speak to him, a contract is a contract and he will have one, that's the law.
If they want him and he wants to go, then it's time to absolutely fleece Flenty for big bucks.
But if you do read this forum Craig, heed this warning, that job is a poison Challis,Fenty will promise you everything to get you in then pull the funding out from under you, break promises and then set you up for a fall.
He is not trust worthy and David Newton has proved that in court.
Don't take my word for it, give Paul Hurst a call.
David Newton is a trust worthy chairman who supports and helps his manager's, and sticks by his promises.
-
a contract is a contract and he will have one, that's the law.
How come we have players on non-contract then? ;)
-
His contact may say that if a league club comes knocking then he may take up the offer providing said club pays X amount of compensation. If there's desire, anything is possible.
TEP
-
Club statement needed .
-
I don't think he will be considered by Grimsby, he has no league experience,he has spent his whole career in non league.
He most probably doesn't even have any league contact's, Grimsby need someone who has contact's and experience as the are in a very bad position and will not want to go down.
I don't see them taking a gamble on someone like Craig, my money is on Phil Brown.
Craig also has a career outside of football, which he probably doesn't want to give up just yet.
Let's not forget that we are not far off league football in the pyramid, no doubt David Newton would love the club to be back there, and who would bet against Craig taking us there anyway.
I agree with Ted, the club need to clear this up ASAP, before it starts to affect the players and our current form, uncertainty is not a positive.
-
has Craig got the relevant coaching badges to manage at EFL level???
-
A friend of mine who is an avid Grimsby supporter reckons it would be the kiss of death for him.

I think DN and CE will inform players of position , club can't clear things up until something concrete happens .
-
I see that the media is cranking up the pressure to get Craig away from Boston.
I now call on all of the Boston fans to let Craig know how much we want him to remain at this club on Saturday.
Town End get your banners out, telling him to stay with us.
Let's not let fishy screw us over again.
If we don't we may regret for sometime to come.
-
Marcus Newell the Cleethorpes manager is bigging Craig up in the local Grimsby rag, he is urging Fenty to take a punt on CE. In his opinion having crossed paths with Craig numerous times he has no doubt he can make the step up. Now I have been known to be a cynical old bugger at times so I wonder if Mr Newell thinks he might be able to step into CE’s Boston track suit should Fenty manage to lure Craig away?
-
Just been told by someone that Twitter saying CE will be approached any day, hope it bullshit

It's all just speculation, as I said in a previous post, Grimsby are not in a league position were they are able to a manager with no league experience.
They need safety first and that is what they will focus on in their search.
Look how long it took them to return to the football league, they will definitely not want to relegated again.
They will have to seek permission to speak to Craig, and l can't see DN allowing that considering the Scott and Hurst incident.
Newton would not be shxt on then so l can't see it happening again, unless they offer a 6 figure + sum in compensation, which I don't think they will.
We don't even know if Craig is even interested in the position, I would think not considering he has a career outside of football and would no doubt have to give that up.
Why would Grimsby even want to pay compensation when there is plenty of managers out there with league experience that are free agents.
I have no doubt that DN would not stand in his way if he wanted to leave, but it will come at a substantial cost to Fishy.
So let's ask Craig on Saturday if he is staying with us or not,as simple as that.
-
With Craig signing another player yesterday that sends out a statement of where his future is. Why buy players IF you are leaving? It is all ear say and BS in my eyes, Grimity will look elsewhere for someone with a bit more knowledge of higher leagues.
-
“Why would Grimsby even want to pay compensation when there is plenty of managers out there with league experience that are free agents.“
Probably for the same reason DN paid compensation to lure him to Boston
-
Are we all reassured that CE will be here for the long haul after his interview tonight, or is there a niggling doubt?

What interview? ignore that, I found it
-
Just a bit worried still, but is that Craig's manner and just the way he comes over in his interviews.
We will just have to wait and see.
The presenters thought he would be silly to go to Grimsby and I think the same.
-
Where is the interview?
-
This mystery interview !!?? Would love to know where it can be found (please!)

Craig's interview is about 27 minutes in.
-
Many thanks YC69

With him saying he was happy here and the fans love him also said that he came here to get Boston back to where it belongs and that has not changed so why is everyone still talking about Grimsby? Even tonight he is saying he may have to bring in a couple of defenders cos we are light in that position, not signs of leaving to me.

I agree, let's give this subject a rest!
-
Yes it's I agree, let's all just move on.
-
Do you think that perhaps the uncertainty had a bit of an effect on the team on Saturday?
-
No I think the opposition did a job on us, they set out to waste time, cheat and frustrate from the off.
But in the future we will have to learn how to overcome that, like the good teams do, but it's early doors for this team and I am sure they will have learned a lot from Saturday.

They pushed cheating and unsporting behaviour to then next letter. it was vile. I really don't know how you overcome that. If you had to be like that yourself to win then id rather lose. id jack in if i was watching that all the time.
-
They were one of the most blatant cheating teams I have seen.
If I remember correctly they were the same last year.
How an elbow to the face not be classed as violent conduct I do not know. Surely if the ref saw an elbow it as to be a red card, is that not the rules?
Their keeper runs half the length of the field to try and get one of ours sent off.
I agree, if our lads did what they did I would give up watching them.

I thought Boston played into their hands by persistently playing long balls down the middle of the pitch, their centre backs just ate everything up, in the last match v Curzon Ashton C E changed to playing the ball to his wide men and opened up Curzon Ashton , I was very surprised the team didn’t do the same v Leamington , If we had got one goal we would have gone on and won the game, Leamingtons Goalie didn’t have one meaningful decent shot to save all match, One defensive error cost us dearly, but there was plenty of time left to play after that error to rectify the situation, Admittedly the referee didn’t help one bit, from the start Leamington knew all they had to do to get a free kick was to go down squealing and rolling around, as they say , you can’t win em all, Onwards and Upwards. We could play much worse and win in future games.
-
Yeah the keeper who cheated to get Greg booked when he never touched him and then the number 3 making out Greg had hit him, so pleased we never stooped to that level to get the points.
Think as supporters we could have got behind the team more, seems like everyone was waiting for an announcement from Board or CE and spent the game chatting about it , BUT, suppose we would have been more vocal had the game been played in the right spirit cos everytime we tried to get some pressure on they would throw themselves to the floor and break the game for a few minutes.
-
Grimsby have appointed Michael Jolley as their new manager. I believe he had about two games as our assistant manager after Dennis Greene first arrived. At least the appointment at Grimsby draws a line under the speculation..

Just been on The Fishy Forum , mariners fans are 100% behind him , like his PR and plans to take the team forward . A young manager with great ideas .
Sounds very similar to Patter in December 2016 . Lets hope it turns out OK.
