Gritter found.....

In dyke

My old man works for the council and he says the gritters have been out 24hrs since friday. Nowadys they use a white salt/saline solution. They use saline when it is icy, or white salt when it has snowed. The white salt does not work until it has been trodden in as it sits on the snow. The old grit, rock salt is much heavier and falls through the snow, however it does not work on ice until it has been crushed.

Now saline/white salt are cheap. rocksalt is expensive. Due to the lack of snow that we seem to get nowadays, the councils have moved over to white salt as it is much cheaper.

your gritting problems explained i hope.....
