by popular(?) demand.....where are they, and / or what are they doing now?
let's try to be as obscure as possible, just for the fun of it......
-
I don't suppose there are too many ex-Pilgrims now further away than Carl Piergianni? He's at South Melbourne FC.
-
Furthest away I can find is Dave Poplar is now living in New Zealand. :)

they've just started their league season. Week 1 Pidge came on as a 73' min sub, drew 2-2, yellow card. Week 2 Pidge started, lost 4-0, yellow card! Week 3 Pidge started, lost 1-0, yellow card!

Looks as though Pidge needs Nat Brown as central partner ;)

Just reading that Jordan Richards has been sent out on loan by Notts County, and is currently playing for Belper Town - two leagues below us! He did well at Boston last season, and it's a shame we couldn't get him back. I would have thought as well that County would have wanted him playing at a higher level than Belper, so an approach from a Conference North club might have secured his services.

A real shame , unless he taken a big dip in form he would be a real improvement on anything we have in mid-field at the moment .
-
Watched him play for Notts county before Xmas,he had a good game in a poor side.
With so much going on at county on and off the field, it would be easy for him to be forgotten.
Perhaps if someone on here knows Bunny,it might be worth a word in his ear.
Jordan would probably jump at the chance to back to Boston, and he might be out of contract at the end of season.
I don't think he will be in Kevin Nolan's plans for next season.
-
More recently......breaking news........Lamin season is underway......"man of the match" in the Intergro League Cup, third round......Ashton United 3 Farsley Celtic 2....Lamin scored Celtic's second in front of a huge crowd of 67.......at least he scored, good luck to him.
If there are any doubters out there, there's a 21 second video on Celtic's match report to prove it!

Wes is a nice guy - a good Skeggy lad - and I did wonder why he hadn't been appearing in the Wealdstone line up for a few months. Thanks for info. I know brother Liam is taking a season out and youngest brother Macaulay is still at Skegness Town - both ex-Pilgrims as well.

Henrich Ravas in the Slovakia U20s squad too.

I just had a look at Buxton vs Frickley line ups tonight. Buxton #5 Joe Maguire #11 Niall Doran Frickley #9 Waide Fairhurst #10 Zeph Thomas #12 Joe Pugh. Buxton won 2-0.

Was in Belfast at the weekend so went to see Linfield v Crusaders (top two in their league, and a local derby). I sat with the Crusaders supporters, and when they were 0-1 down in the second half I asked if they had any options on the bench. The chap next to me pointed over to the other side of the ground and said 'We've got this big bloke who's warming up at the moment and is new, but he hasn't had much of a chance yet'. It turned out to be Mikel Suarez. He came on a few minutes later, won a few headers but didn't have many opportunities to do much.
Windsor Park is a great ground now. There was a good atmosphere with just two sides of the ground open. I'd say the standard is pretty similar to ours, but as they are semi-pro too I suppose that's not surprising. It was just £10 to get in.

Former youth team product Ben Nunn is a part of the Boreham Wood FC squad that is sat in a comfortable mid table position in the National League Premier.

I was looking back a few seasons and found a report of interest.
July 30th 2012, Lincs Cup Semi.
Stamford 3 United 3, United won on pens.
For the Pilgrims, a Marc Newsham hat-trick.
For Stamford were goals by Gregg Smith and sub Ricky Miller. I wonder what happened to them?
Also on the team sheet for the Daniels that day were Paul Mayo, Tom Bachelor, Richard Jones, Gary King, Jordan Smith and another sub, David Staff.
-
Gary King was the one who missed the cricual spot kick. I think it's still rising...
-
Ricky Miller has won the Conference National Player of the Year

Fully deserved , interesting to see his next move.
Another one who has progressed through hard work and used opportunity given by Greene .

Linked with peterborough

Congratulations to Reene Steer on winning a Conference South winners medal today .
A few of his spectacular goals would have been a breath of fresh air at YS this season .

I agree, two chaps in charge, each with a cataclysmic record of failure! Coupled with Trinity's new team made up of failed Pilgrims & Villagers, along with some former Tulips playing way above their level, that should take care of 2 out the 3 relegation spots this year!

Hilliard could have been lonegunman's number 10 supplying the killer passes!
Inside left was the role he should have had for us: skillful, vision, guile & a proven goalscorer; sadly wasted in a deep midfield role that the player himself said was not his best position. We will do extremely well to replace him with a better schemer. Our loss st. Ives gain.

Bring him back he only plays for £100 a week ;) ;)

M Marshall to Alfreton
-
M Marshall to Alfreton
If anyone was a victim of last season's turmoil it was him. He was played all over the shop by both managers. Apart from in goal, at some stage he played everywhere else.
I thought he was good when DG played him right back (wing back) for a few games. Hursty rated him at Grimsby & said the work with him was his final ball as he had the skill & pace.
If he gets a run in a settled role he will be a decent signing for them. Just hope he doesn't come back & haunt us!!
-
I liked Marshall too - willing to play wherever he was asked and tried his hardest on the games I saw him.
-
Ben Milnes has left Corby and signed for Kettering.
-
According to twitter there's an ex Lincoln and Boston player cirrently on trial at Gainsborough, but the hyperlink then loads an article about Mohammed Salah. Anyone know who it's supposed to be about?
Presimably not Shane Clarke or Alex Simmonds as I believe they are signed as opposed to on trial.
Of course, I may have forgotten Salahs spell at York Street, but the article does say he is a £40 million striker. Think I would have remembered him if he'd played in Conference North.

Looks like Trinity are signing what they can what they can afford not what you would call quality.
That's not a dig, looks like DF has panicked and signed what he knows,Stainsfield at this level really,I found him totally lacking in quality and ability at York Street, he hasn't improved mutch at Spalding.
-
Conor Marshall has joined Corby.
-
Looks like Trinity are signing what they can what they can afford not what you would call quality.
I can't help finding a real comparison there to ourselves, YC. I guess we are 2 examples of the harsh reality if today's non-league financial situation. We are each taking the other team's unwanted players and trying to put together whatever we can in order to be competitive. It's been said before, but clubs like ourselves and Trinity simply cannot afford to compete with the many clubs with bigger budgets or bank -rolling owners.
-
Let's hope not TTT, I do think we have a much stronger team this year, but we will soon know, can't wait to see the team perform at Boston Town next Saturday.
-
Josh Robinson has returned to Northern Ireland, to play for Linfield.

Good luck to him, but I feel he will struggle to get a deal there.
To many players ahead of him, silly lad really leaving us unless he had a concrete offer on the table.
At least he would have been a certain starter at Boston.

He is a good player. Thought he was excellent for us in that holding midfield role DG played him in. Recall Greene being gutted when Notts Co recalled him just before Xmas 2015 after saying it was season long loan?

He was on a youth loan, which meant we didn't have to pay any of his wages. It also meant that he could play for County (first team/reserves) during the loan, and could also be cancelled at any time.
-
He will be a good signing for them, not much of a tackler though.
-
Richard Brodie on trial at Macclesfield.
1883 also interested in him. But he wants full time deal & prefers the Silkmen.

I see Conor Marshall joined Spalding last week. Always a liked player when playing for us.
-
Jason Alexander signed for Clipstone earlier in the season from Lincoln United (possibly on dual registration). I know he was the second choice 'keeper at Lincoln United so he joined Clipstone in order to play rather than sit on the bench.
He's played a few games for them including playing against us (Worksop Town) on Saturday, however he is alleged to have walked out on Clipstone after the game vowing not to play for them again.

I liked him too. I always thought he gave everything, no matter where he was asked to play. Maybe we could offer the Tulips a job swap sort of loan deal for a few games....Marshall and Chapman could trade teams? What do you think?

I'll refrain from saying too much about Chapman for now TTT, lol.
Have to say GHM, i really feel for players who pick up a nasty injury. We have often seen players picking up bad injuries then having to drop down a few levels to be able to continue playing the game that they clearly love. I remember Milly picking up that bad injury for us several seasons back but he still seems to be enjoying the local football scene and scoring the odd goal.
-
Didn't Marshall pick up an injury in the season we missed out on the play offs under DG, I remember thinking if he had been fit all season we probably would have made them.
I liked him also and thought he would progress to a higher level.
To be honest I would give him a chance in this team alongside Chapman, Connor the ball winner and Adam the ball player.

Went for a job interview in Leicester and one of the interviewers was Jamie Clarke. Talked football the whole time and got the job. He played under Hurst and Scott of course. Coincidentally he had been speaking to Jeff Lissaman that morning about buying sportswear.I too have contacted Jeff in the past for the same reason
Both said they remember the "Spayne" side being quite vociferous but not always too friendly. Nothing changes then!

His career with us was only brief, but during that short spell he did show some ability albeit focused on his physical style of play. Which as we know got the referees attention every time. As with many players, if the temperament can be curbed it eases the road to progression. But if it can't, it soon leads to being released and dropping down the divisions as other managers won't want to take the risk. I wouldn't say he was a bad player, but at the moment he is playing at the level suitable to his capabilities. Another player from the same Boston era I saw potential in was Indy Aujla, whatever happened to him ?

Mike Marsh spotted on the England U/17 coaching staff as the boys did us proud today by winning the World Cup title in India 5-2 against Spain. Must seem a million miles away from his time at York Street. Well done to all involved.

Tom Batchelor has re-signed for Grantham
http://www.granthamtownfc.com/teams/59867/news/return-of-the-batch-2082243.html
They look like promotion contenders & Tom will give them more options at the back. Northern Prem is a tough league, top 5 or 6 really decent sides. Hednesford played us off the park in that last pre season game & they're only 16th at mo.
South Shields will likely win it next season (new Salford).
Can't believe anybody on here saying our relegation would be preferable to promotion?? It would be a disaster for the club!
We could be languishing down there for seasons. Unless we were challenging at top gates would be in the 700's or lower. Let's get real relegation is the one thing DN fears most for the club. Hence at every sniff of it the manager goes: Lee, Drury, Greene & Murray knew that too & resigned.

We don't have a crystal ball but speculating on recent movement and the changing trends in Conference football now for any team with a desire to gain promotion must turn full-time . Full time teams are now increasing season by season . Worrying that the trend is many teams promoted from CN struggle and are soon back down .
I speculate that a part time team challenging for play-offs in the EVO would pull as many through the turnstiles as a team constantly fighting relegation in Con Prem . Promotion with a far bigger wage bill and increased overheads appears a far greater financial risk .
It took the chairman a long time to get ""a sniff" of AM disastrous form .
-
Where are they now .
Six of the CN sides promoted in recent years are placed in the bottom 9 of the Nat Con , 3 of them in the relegation zone and 2 of three three teams are full-time . tough league !!!

I went to watch Stocksbridge Park Steels v Sheffield FC today, the winner coming from Adam Chapman with an absolute screamer from 35 yards. I doubt I will see a better goal all season.
I've now seen him play twice in the last month or so and based on those performances he certainly looks comfortable at Evo-Stik Division 1 level. He's playing at centre half alongside a rejuvenated Julian Lawrence.
The first time I saw him play was away at Cleethorpes; I let the Cleethorpes ultras know he used to play for you who quickly followed that up with chants of "Boston reject" much to the amusement of Julian Lawrence. To be fair Chapman also had a smile in his face and took it well.

Midfielder Mo Adams (who made 1 Pilgrims appearance in the 15/16 season) has been playing US college soccer for Syracuse. Today he's been drafted to MLS team Chicago Fire. Interesting post TTT. Yes Chappy was woeful 4 us it can't be denied. However I think I (& occasionally yc69) tried 2 cut him a little slack. He's now 27 & again I will say his pedegree previous 2 joining us was unquestionable. Look at his Newport (FL) Oxford utd & Mansfield (FL) stats.
He was employed by Murray to sit just in front of a useless static, clueless over coached back 7. Instructed pathetically not to cross the half way line?? AM didn't have a clue re CN & with AC the obvious scapegoat we were going down. Yes a static mix of only 5 defensive midfielders & each week we shipped 3 goals & lost 8 in a row!!
Chappy boy is a Creative Attacking midfielder with N Irish under 21 caps. Murray ruined him at Boston. I wish him all the best. He will come good again & poetically come back one day to haunt us -- doesn't that always happen?

Don't think we will ever see him again in a Boston shirt, only the one he wears to bath the dog in.
He was though ruined here under his mate's lack of football tactics.
I would put money on seeing another attacking midfielder arrive soon, and a more experienced striker, someone who can hold the ball up and play players in.

Scott Garner to Guiseley...
He has gone back gone back to part-time football then according this statement from Guiseley on 15 May 2018: -
Guiseley have appointed Marcus Bignot and Russ O'Neill as joint managers following their relegation to National League North.
Bignot, 43, left his job as Chester boss at the end of the season after failing to keep them in the National League, winning only five games.
O'Neill, 45, has been out of management since leaving Alfreton in May 2017.
Guiseley have also announced they will once again be a part-time club, having turned full-time in October 2017.
The Lions finished last in the National League and had been without a permanent boss since firing Paul Cox in February, with interim coach Sean St Ledger winning only three of his 14 games in charge.
"We are really excited to have the new management team in place as we look to get stability back into our club," chairman Gary Douglas said.
Pleased that our club is run sensibly. :)

There's an article on Vanarama North News about Jordan Pickford which says during 12/13 season he spent about a dozen matches on loan at Alfreton from Sunderland. They were Conference National at the time. I had a dig about in their archives and I think his debut was in a 5-1 win sgsinst Hyde. Also playing for Alfreton that day were our new boy Nathan Arnold, and an old boy came on as sub, Danny Meadows. What hugely different paths all of their respective careers have taken.

Greg Smith to Brackley Town
Good luck to him, going to seem strange watching him against us.
Smithy's move to Brackley was due to go through the days before we played them on the Tuesday evening last April (1--4 defeat). A Brackley source at the game said it had maybe been put on hold until a day or 2 after the game. Maybe Gregg needed more time due to the travelling for their home games; also personal terms etc. I was telling Joshb after the game & we both questioned how he would fit in with the way they play. Well we will find out soon enough. Their guy said they see him as their Matt Reid? If they get him using his strength, holding it up & laying it of accurately....he could be a good signing for them. He's always going 2 be dangerous from any decent cross lifted into the box. If he gets any sort of run on the cross he takes some stopping.
-
Greg Smith to Brackley Town

we both questioned how he would fit in with the way they play.
a few seasons ago Brackley had a forward called Charlie Griffin, who played just like Smithy. He spent as much time deliberately being a pain in the arse off the ball as he he did holding it up or winning it in the air. Smithy would fit that role well.

If we are honest; truly the Last, & Greatest Permanent Keeper we had. This is with reference to the current keeper debate. Ok we've had a couple of decent loans, but post Baxza not a lot to write home about, & it's Always a Major weakness in any team. We will lose games we should win until we get a top quality stopper in who the back 4 have confidence in.
-
Tom Evans was excellent in the S&H play off winning team
James McKeown wasn't too shabby either.
Max Strycek or whatever his name was was a terrific keeper
But we've had some real shockers too, Dan Haystead being the worst of a very ropey bunch post Bazza.
I go back to the excellent Gerry Stewart, Kevin Blackwell, John McKenna and then The Legend. All first class stoppers without a noticeable weakness to their game.

Will agree with most of that. My point being as with Bazza, if u can get a really top, vocal, confident, box dominating, Permanent keeper, the back four respond accordingly. Example being on Saturday their manager will be telling them to overload our shaky keeper with crosses & shoot on sight from the off. It just puts unnecessary pressure on our back line from the first whistle.
-
Yet Bazza dropped the odd massve clanger too!

Not an out and out CF, however his goals return has been outstanding wherever he's played. 68 goals for us in 166 appearances; of which 27 of those apps he started on the bench. Would mind seeing the stats for his assists either, they would be impressive too. Talented player who still has much to offer at 33.
-
Paul Hurst has stated he is willing to talk to Notts County over the vacant managers job.
But apparently Shrewsbury are trying to get him back.

The Newsh was always deadly from that range ! Has done well to overcome his knee problems & is at 31 still a major threat in the final 3rd. An intelligent striker, who reads the game well & that will only have improved with age & experience. If he keeps fit could well appear at a higher level again.

I wouldn't be dissapointed to see him in a Boston shirt again.

Be careful what you wish for, l personally think he has made some mistakes and let the drink take over his judgement.
But we have a current player amongst are squad that has had issues with both drink and drugs.
We all make mistakes in life and sometimes they have a big impact on other people's lives, let's not forget that Ricky and George are fighting to get over their problems day by day.
But both of them have the balls to stand up and face their demons and not run and hide.

cracking effort! There were also 3 other former pilgrims in the Basford side last night. Callum Chettle, James Reid and Jack Thomas. I shouldn’t think there were too many Pilgrims appearances even combined!

Former loanee keeper Conrad Logan lined up for Anstey Nomads vs Boston Town on Saturday. 3 seasons ago he was playing in the Scottish Prem. That's one big drop.

It's a big enough drop from last season, where he was at Mansfield and Forest Green!
-
Anstey apparently are paying good wages at this level with the intention of getting promoted

I haven't got an opinion about Logan, but I rated Stanfield. My memory bank tells me he felt DG's contract offer was "inadequate", so he left. He stuck his head in when it counted. Then DG signed Pidge and Nathan was forgotten. I still remember him.
-
Stainfield wasn't good enough for high-end Conference North, which is what we aimed to be. Compare him and Tom Ward to Shiels/Pidge and Garner, and it's no contest.

With so many new faces arriving recently, perhaps it was far too difficult for them to work out how to identify the pair!! LOL!!
Unlike:-
(1) Back in the 70s Scarborough had two players called Harry Dunn - one was known as Harry Dunn and the other as Harry 'A' Dunn.
and
(2) Back in my Woad Farm primary school days back home in Boston in the 60s our headmaster was called Mr. Naylor. Another Mr. Naylor joined the teaching staff and so he was known as Mr. Charles (Charles being his first name)
Simples!!
-
Gloucester used to have 2 players called Mike Green - one of them was a goalkeeper, however!

Graeme Jones got a mention on MotD last night in his new role as part of Newcastle United's coaching staff.

I see Colby Bishop scored another 2 goals for Accrington the other night. When he played for us under AM, he couldn't hit a barn door at 20 paces. They must have him on a black pudding diet at Stanley and it's worked! Good luck to him anyway, he might be playing in the Championship next season.

I didn't see him in all of his games for us but there was nothing in there to suggest to me that he would make it at Football League level, good job I'm not a scout. Must have improved a hell of a lot, good luck to him.

Stuart Douglas is a physio at AFC Bournemouth
-
Well that's odd. Whilst he is named on the Bournemouth website as a physiotherapist, his name does not seem to be on the HCPC register, which you have to be if you are a qualified physiotherapist.
He might be using another name on there I suppose but if he is not and is still calling himself a physiotherapist then he is committing a criminal offence.
He seemed like a nice lad when he played for us so I won't dob him in yet...

Back at Altrincham and scored a last minute pen against Torquay in a 2:2 draw. The goal effectively relegated Torquay back to regional football
-
Watched Carlton Town v Dunston UTS , a 2:0 win to Carlton
contained a great penalty save and follow up from Mike Emery in the Carlton goal. Squad member was Kyle Dixon.
Managing Dunston UTS was Chris Swailes a decent centre back we had in the early 90's. Apparently he resigned after the game.

Went to see Anstey Nomads v Deeping Rangers yesterday in the final of the UCL Cup in Stamford (Anstey won 3-0). Conrad Logan was in goal for the winners, and I spent a lot of the second half chatting with Spencer Weir-Daley who is at Anstey but wasn't playing, and with Graham Drury whose Stamford team won promotion impressively this season. They are now one promotion from us.
-
It's funny - I never rated Drury and thought he was one of the worst appointments ever made by David Newton, but I have been impressed by his record in the lower divisions.

Well he returned eventually, a mere 6 years later!

An illegally taken free kick according to Forest :D

Adam Murray Eastbourne Borough manager
