Retained List
« on: April 10, 2012, 01:38:08 PM »
Who of the current squad do you think should be retained?
For me...
Drury
Marshall
Parker - if he gets back to full fitness
Jellyman
Ross
Sleath
Milnes
Fairclough
Semple
SWD
Newsham

You have missed Ward and Bazza. Forgot Stainfield, probably the most improved player in the squad, and young James Reed.

Retained list for me would be:

Bazza
Marshall
Jelly
Sleath (although could be going as finishes Uni this year I believe)
Semps
Newsh
Fairclough
Ward
SWD
Ross

Have not seen Smith play yet so cant comment.
Reed looks decent would like to see him a bit more.
Milnes is a good player but I think more of a ball winner is needed in the centre of the park.
A moaney clapper!......... best of both worlds

Bastock

Jellyman
Marshall
Ward
Stainfield

Sleath
Semple
Ross

Newsham
SWD

I think we need:

A keeper to provide genuine back-up/competition to Bazza
Two experienced centre halves (Ward + Stainfield still make too many mistakes if we are serious about challenging for the league)
Two new midfielders. One ball winner, Church type and one with more creativity (Milnes + Hall too inconsistent)
A proven goalscorer - one that's good in the air would be a bonus (Ben F too inconsistent for my liking).

Oh we must keep Reed that's for sure. We desperately need 2 young centre halves that have proved themselves in BSN or Evo-Stick and we need a left winger, and next i'd like us to go back to 442

Do none of you think that there are better goalkeepers than bazza available and maybe we should look to the future even if he's a club legend

Keep:

Ward
Stainfield
Marshall
Milnes
Ross
Sleath
Semple
Fairclough
SWD
Newsh

Maybes

Jelleyman - hasn't looked his usual reliable self for some time.
Drury - A good shot stopper but think his size will be his undoing. Would be a good understudy if he will accept that.
Parker - A lot will depend if he can prove his fitness, probably pay as you play.
Smith - Not seen enough to give an opinion.
Burge - Has had a couple of good games and a couple of poor ones. Would probably be a good squad player.

Release

Bazza - A legend but think next season would be one too many. Age isn't on his side and think he may ruin his status amongst the fans if he carries on
Austin - Has been a liability at times and not played for large parts of the season. Has had a few steady games but not done enough to be kept on.
Hall - His confidence is shot, will need a fresh start

Canners and Lee to hang up their boots and concentrate on managing.

Needs

A younger goalkeeper with a bit of experience, would welcome back Danny Haystead or someone in that vain
A centre back with experience to help bring the 2 younger CB's on but someone still young enough to play (unlike Austin)
A ball winning midfielder
A big centre forward for a plan b if the 4-3-3 isn't working

We'd need to lose a couple of the maybe's to keep the squad size down to 17 (Parker and Smith I'd guess). The squad to then be supplemented by youth players like young Reed (there's others that don't seem far off like Sturman, Nuttell, Sanders etc.)

And the money to pay wages for all these suggestions comes from. . . .???? No matter what we would like in the end it comes to how much the budget is.

For me, my list would be;

Canners and Lee (as managers but only play when we really need them)
Bastock
Drury (could do with going out on loan, but future no.1)
Jelleyman
Stainfield
Ward
Milnes
Ross
Reed (a great future ahead for him)
Semple
Sleath
Fairclough
Weir Daley

Sturman, Nuttell and Field could be good if they were given a go

Maybe's;
Newsh (he's a maybe for me, i know he has scored loads of goals for us but i don't rate him i'm afraid)
Parker (if he gets fit enough)
Smith (haven't seen him play yet so can't say)

Release;
Marshall
Austin
Hall
Stones
None of these have done enough for me :/

Needs;
I think we need a keeper to provide competition for Bazza
A centre back with a bit of experience
We could do with a powerhouse/ballwinner in centre midfield
And i think we need another striker who is quite fast and can also be used as a target man in the air

Not sure I get this comment. Everyone knows we don't have a great budget it's been done to death. I'd still hazzard a guess it's in the top 10 in our league maybe even top 6-8.

And tbh people aren't talking about additional players just replacing players from the current squad. For myself can't see Haystead being any more expensive than Bazza, the ball winning centre mid and big striker I'd be happy with younger lads who are more cost effective. The only one I've suggested that may cost a bit is an experienced centre half.

But Austin and Hall would be amongst our higher earners at a guess, and along with the other 3 players I've suggested we release there should be plenty in the budget to make the changes :)

Looking through the rest only Daniel Lambert has suggested additions that would probably be beyond our budget...
